Hi
Right, so this is a kind of follow up on this Jaguar, after coming back 10 minutes later after the previous repair...

• Jaguar XF (X250) ABS a...
A "Restricted Performance" warning message, and the illumination of the DSC light, made the owner to believe that the same problem as before just happened again... not quite, as explained in the previous "Talking" video...
Link to the talking video here:
• Same light just came O...
So, as above, and as per the videos linked above, which I strongly recommend you to watch, this come to me in limp mode, with some warning messages and a DSC light...
Upon on investigation, found P140A-21...
I did recommend, that if the problem persists, to have them replaced... but as it was the first time it happened, and after seeing the improvement since the cleaning done, it could be that it was a one of for now, and they will still last for some time...
Hope you enjoy the video.
Any questions or comments put them below.
Like always, thank you for watching!

One thing I would recommend to start with is the MAP (not MAF) sensor. On the earlier 3.0d this sits on top of the engine. Mine was clogged up with oil and gave me longstanding restricted performance issues. The car went into 3 different garages for repair but nobody checked this. I removed it, cleaned it out, replaced it, and the car has been fine ever since. 5 minute free repair!

Hi, I viewed all three videos, and as I thought from watching the second one and observing the error code, it was indeed an egr problem. Nice work and thank you for this.

Hi Luis. Pleased you have finally identified an egr gremlin with video evidence. Let's hope the owner replace both egr with quality OEM. Thanks once again for spending time investigating.😀

That EGR fault didn't just appear after you fixed the ABS fault. A blind man on a galloping horse can see it's been faulty/intermittent for quite a while. It's not like these quality motors aren't renowned for it. Could this be another case of the customer not quite telling the truth or the whole tale 🤔

Apart from this fault, Luis, these engines (wherever they are fitted) have a tendency to cut their crankshaft in 2 because of their front damper pulley being not balanced due to wear. Make sure this is fine (or just replace it) before you give it to the owner. You don't want them to blame you for this if the engine is destroyed. As always, thank you for the time you spend making these videos.

@@LMAutoRepairs That is the beauty of this job. You learn something new everyday. I knew these engines fail ( I have replaced an engine on a Jaguar like this) but didn't know why. Thanks to another mechanic's videos I learned what happens due to the damper pulley. Still, thanks for all these videos, man. You put a lot of effort.

No they don't. I've been a member of 2 Jag forums for over 10 years and have NEVER heard of a single owner who has had that problem. This sounds like one of those cases where something has happened to an owner so they then assume it's a common fault and go around warning other people.
@puntofato
@puntofato Год назад
I have changed an engine in a jag because of this but since we don't have many of those here (if any) with that engine, there are a few LRs. I have seen or heard about that damage in them from other workshops. It does not mean it happens often but a bad pulley can cause the crankshaft to break in 2 because of the vibration it causes, so just be ware. The labour charged by your workshops is a very high compared to ours.

@severnsea

Very rare that they actually need replacing. There isn't much that can go wrong with them and they just get clogged up, more so if you do a lot of short journeys. Regardless of the car you drive it's best to run a cleaner through them every so often and you won't have any problems.
@winfredomgunther
@winfredomgunther Год назад
Conclusion from my point. The oner got the car it tests lick never he droved and the EGR valves try thing that in long time don't do! For that I often see, people get big car, and never drive a long distance.

@LMAutoRepairs
@LMAutoRepairs Год назад
If they need to come out to proper clean, I would just replace them... That was also my advice... Sometimes it is just not the cleaning, is that they start to get worn, and that is what start to allow them to pass carbon to the wrong areas, and start to get sticky if you will... 👍👍👍

Indeed... Better just replace if/when completely fails... 👍👍👍
@severnsea
@severnsea Год назад
@@LMAutoRepairs I disagree. Sometimes, in fact most of the time, they just get coked up and need cleaning out. There's very little that can actually go wrong with them and they can be chemically cleaned. If you do need to remove them it is a fiddly job and they're not that expensive so you might as well replace them, but in most cases it's not necessary.
@LMAutoRepairs
@LMAutoRepairs Год назад
That's what I said... "Replace if/when completely fails..." If I had to remove it on one of this cars, I would just replace it... as they are not easy to access... There is also the possibility of the wear on the shaft starts to allow carbon to pass into the electric side of the egr... that's something a cleaning will not fix... 👍👍👍
@severnsea

@@LMAutoRepairs Yep, spot on. Usually very high mileage (well into 6 figures) before these show any signs of wear though.
