This happened to me yesterday (tried to drive the car and the parking brake fault message [and light] came on and the car would not move). The interesting thing is, it's the first time I've ever had it happen and along with this, I noticed, for the first time since I bought this new battery, about 6 years ago, the car was very slow to start (low battery)! In my case, I ended up playing around with it and turning the car off - waiting a moment and then starting it up again I think twice before I heard this fast beeping sound and then it worked. Drove to my destination and an hour later came back to the car and everything was fine. I also noticed the starter went faster, this time - I don't drive the car much and I think the long drive yesterday charged up the battery a bit. NOW, I went to the Jaguar forums and found an answer which seems to be fairly common: the indication they have is that if you have low voltage from the car battery, that can create the fault that happened with me. I strongly suspect that if I get a new battery (I've been lucky in that this one has lasted about 6 years) that might solve my issue/prevent the issue from reoccurring most likely. In the meantime, I'm wondering if someone had this problem and couldn't get it unlocked, I'm just wondering - not necessarily suggesting this - if they tried jumping the battery, maybe that would supply enough voltage to at least unlock the parking brake so that one could drive it to da battery place :-)

I know this video is super old, but question - you switched the wire around - was that because the first way was incorrect, or it works both ways? One to engage the brake and the other to disengage?

You do have a choice push the e brake button down while holding button down pull key out. And ebrake is off and does not engage. ebrake does not engage until key is pulled out of ignition. don't have to hold the break down either .have 06 xj8 know alot of secrets about these jags like when car is locked and u push trunk button on boot or us term trunk lid you will hear by putting ear next to trunk and push the button on trunk you will hear the suspension tank reset. Also hold center control lock button. Down for 3 seconds and all windows go down repeat and all windows go up.. can keep going.

Why parking brakes have to be electronic when the traditional works so well. Really wanted these cars, but now off my list.

This was helpful though it didn't solve my problem but I could be able to hear the motor so glad the motor is good. Ordered a new module hope that would solve the problem. My e brake doesn't engage at all and on the switch, up = to brake off and down = brake on, on the dashboard light.

On my jaguar when thd Parking Brake Fault comes up i apply the handbrake & remove the top & bottom connector plugs from the module for a few minutes. When i reconnect tha fault is cleared

Do you know if the car can be run sans the module connected? Here in flat FL, we don't need no stinkin' parking brakes and would love to avoid this calamity again.

I just experienced the same problem on my 2007 XJ8L and it seems the module is not located in the same position as the 2005 model. Would someone advise where I can locate it?

Very useful

Excellent, clear video and instructions made this chore a simple one. Was able to unplug the relay without unbolting the module. Hardest part was removing and replacing the trunk interior panels without damaging them. By the way, it is possible to avoid the automatic parking brake engage function. According to the owner's manual, simply depress the parking brake release when turning off the car and removing the key. It works - no brake engagement. Thanks!
