Judge Merchan ruled that former President Trump violated the gag order against him nine times and owes $1,000 fine for each violation. Being found in criminal contempt, according to Glenn Kirschner, means CRIMPOTUS has violated the conditions of his release in Georgia and (probably) Florida. That means "bail conditions". So the judges in those cases can now, under law, revoke his bail and remand him into custody. On one hand, he would then be unavailable for the NY trial, but on the other I suspect Merchan could continue in absentia, since the absence is a product of CRIMPOTUS's actions and the legal process. So it seems there's no end of jail cells ready, willing, and able to house this thug for a while.

I was initially anxious about this effect back when Engoron was dealing with this. But I don’t think there’s real danger of this. There’s been too many times that he’s openly defied orders, endangering others and obstructing the law. We see judges giving him interminable mulligans. We all know what would happen if we said things like he has, about a judge and court where we’re the defendant. Even some supporters are starting to realize that Donald J Turnip isn’t being treated _worse_ than normal Americans. He gets way way WAY more privilege. That’s not okay.

The judge has only the law to work with. Sane people normally don’t need actual penalties to behave themselves like adults in court. So the initial offense carries only cursory penalties. The judge will probably repeat those penalties on Thursday and remind Defendant Turnip that the judge is now empowered to impose jail time. Could be spicy next week. 🍿☕️

In Germany, fines in court are calculated on the basis of the supposed daily income of the individual fined. You get fined x daily incomes for a given offence. The higher the income the higher the fine amount. That way the punishment hurt any offerender evenly, regardless of income.
