I’m from the U.K. and I spent the afternoon with Prince, played darts and had lunch. My uncle used to run a catering company that toured with acts and he had Prince in late 80s. One day he took me to rehearsal and that’s when I met him. I just remember him being quiet but such a lovely calm aura about him.
He sounds so matured. He sincerely said " talent isn't hereditary." fluidly and meaningfully. "Talent comes from anywhere." Being Bob Dylan's son and coming across this genuine and totally sincere.
I met Prince back in 2002 through a friend who would use his recording studio low key. The man was a phenomenon for sure. And super nice to the common man for sure. He never acted above us, or better than us, a great human being.
I met Prince in a bar in Venice, he was pretending to be a Prince impersonator with a (very bad) french accent. That huge bodyguard that you mentioned was with him and kept rolling his eyes.... Good times.
Sounds like the time I met Cameron Diaz in a hostel in Cape Town, South Africa. She was slumming it and using the name Carmen Dushnowsky. Everyone just says I'm a crazy liar because the story is so stupid.
Prince is the only person in history that couldnt be embarrassed. He could fall down a flight of stairs and we’d all be like “that’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen”
Nah speak for yourself, i'd be laughing my ass off at the little man that just fell down the stairs. So silly to "worship" another human being this much. The emperor's new cltohes.
@@pereztube2 lol pretty much yh...you nailed it! You should try it sometime, might help you develop a sense of humor. Or maybe not, you don't want to be a monster like me 😏
I mean you can look at his shows pre purple rain when he used to make his show look like blade runner it was like 82 or 83 shit was wild. And much better than his covers.
@@SuperCroc69 I agree with you. Even George Harrison would have loved Prince's guitar playing on "While my guitar gentle Weeps" Dhani Harrison was digging it. He was looking at Prince with a huge grin and digging his performance. The WOW Factor!
Saw Prince open for the Rolling Stones, J Geils Band, & George Thorogood in L.A. Colosseum 1981. He comes out & people are giving him shit. By end of his set he got a standing ovation...
Out of all of the old 90's songs I loved back in the day, One Headlight is one of the only ones I still listen to on a regular basis. It's funny because I didn't care about the song when it came out, but it stuck with me for some reason
I rented a nightclub in downtown LA from Prince on 3rd and Boylston it was called Glam slam then changed to Soho, he didn't want much money to rent the place just wanted the place to rock and everybody have a good time.. So cool
@@mywifesboyfriend5741 Truth about Bruce Lee came out recently : hooked big time on several drugs , coke LSD mescaline morphine (source Bob Baker letters)
Remember when Columbia House would send you a random Cassette each month (1997 or 98) if you failed to send back the card thing saying you didn't want that month's music ?? That's how I got the Wallflowers. Played it until I destroyed it, then had CH send me another. Think I ended up buying a Cd or two after that. Great album, still love it.
I ordered hundreds of cds from Columbia House and when they sent the bill my mother called and said "hes 13 years old... A minor cant enter a contract."
@@kevindube7096 he has to say that because most people don’t know who he is… but still, way more people know him than you at the end of the day so stay salty kid
Joe "I really like that hat!" Jakob "Yeah, I found it in a garbage can outside The Comedy Store, the day after the 2016 election. I had to wash it because it smelled like elk and weed.""
Really enjoyed this conversation, especially on the state of music as it has been affected by the streaming services. Jakob is a very pleasant guy all round, I remember One Headlight, and a few other Wallflowers songs, I didnt know he was coming out with a new album today.:)
For this interview, It would have been absolutely magnificent if Rogan played the Album; Highway 61 Revisited on loop in the background, with the volume so loud it drowns out what they're saying. It would serve as a metaphor for what's actually going on.
A fantastic album and by far their best in my opinion. Besides his talent he has the coolest personality and seems to be a really good guy. Someone you wanna hang out with.
@@StuMcClay it was in Cleveland at CSU…I remember,,like joe ….looking at the album “for you” as a boy ,thinking something does no compute…I knew it wasn’t cool to look like prince …it was always cool to play prince , and play the right song around a woman…no words are ever needed.
At Amoeba Music in L.A. late one night before close they flipped on 'The Very Best of Prince'. The entire place started grooving. It was like the clothing store scene in Bachelor Party.
My sister wore out purple rain, I was young and didn’t get it, later she got a prince greatest hits in the mail and My mind was blown. I was mad at myself for not recognizing his genius earlier, but my sister knew, Aimee knew.
My introduction to Prince was his album for Tim Burton's first Batman movie. I was obsessed with Danny Elfman's score from the movie and asked for the soundtrack for my birthday. And my mom accidentally bought Prince's Batman album instead
Got to dance on stage with a crowd of woman at a Prince show in the Hamptons . I got to go for free because my old boss designed the merch for the concert.Dude was super human.Best concert I ever saw.
Joe's 1st reaction to Prince: "is that a man? That's a dude, right? He's very pretty! These feelings im having right now are a little bit squirrely. I need testosterone, must eat elk meat, practice tae Kwon do, and lift weights with gorillas."
Wow.... I've always wondered about his life. Jakob's life that is.... I love his music and it reminds me of just a better time in life when things were simple. So ready to start this over and listen to all e hours. Thanks for the kick ass podcast @Joe Rogan
It seems obvious to me that Prince wanted Jakob's 'approval' since he is Bob's son. And they are both from Minnesota...not sure if that means anything.
I had a hot Brazillian girlfriend years ago and we met Prince at The Lounge in Mpls and he complemented my GF on her samba dancing and asked her to come to Pasiley Park to dance in a video. She turned him down! I said Amor, that is Prince! And she said, I don't care, I'm here with you!? I looked at him and shrugged my sholders and he shrugged his shoulders back to me and smiled.....
I swear the wallflower album "bringing down the horse" is one of the best records from beginning to end in history. The production is near perfect. I'm sorry I just felt the need to say that, but its true.
4:45 Translation: You were the one person he knew in the club, and he didn't want to get photographed being Prince, sitting awkwardly in a club, alone, so he asked you to come and hang, because you were there, looking just as lonely and awkward, so you could both sit awkwardly in the club, just not alone....
Fascinating... hearing Jakob talk about meeting Prince... as big as an icon (arguably) as Bob. (I am grateful to have lived during the lives of heroes Bowie, Dylan, and Prince)
I watched the echo in the canyon film and it was good but I had no idea this guy was Bob Dylan's son very cool he had a super unique childhood even if he doesn't acknowledge it. And I bet it was awesome lucky guy I'm sure he knows it but very gracious when speaking of it. And the echo in the canyon highly recommend watching it some of the older guys on there can play some insane rifts very cool to see.
I love these podcasts I've learnt so much stuff not to mention all the words of wisdom from the people that have been around the block 10,000 times and more.
The only reason I hope the afterlife exists is because it means there's a possibility that Prince is still out there somewhere trolling the universe in some way.
I was in my mid teens and went to see the Purple Rain movie when it opened with a girl. I am Australian so I loved hard Australian rock and thought Prince was a bit soft for my taste at the time. I thought it was a bit of a chick flick to be honest and thought it would help my chances. THEN I saw Prince play 'Lets get crazy' in that movie. IT FUCKING ROCKS. The man could do anything at the highest level.
Prince was taken way, way too soon. If you were a person like Jakob Dylan, or anyone for that matter, who got the chance to meet Prince even briefly, that time would haunt me forever.
First time I heard Prince was on the radio When Doves Cry we were all in the heavy metal and had to act like you didn't like it but I did and I believe that Prince opened up for the Rolling Stones and was booed off the stage pretty early in his career so what no good all the time he had to fight to get to where he was.
And then prince had Ronnie Wood on stage with him around 1988 era, Ronnie played princes’ blue cloud guitar and the fans gave him a great time. Also prince used that actual booing audio sound in one of his songs :)
