My wife saw the marketing video for Eclisse and convinced me to install one in the kitchen panty. Seven hundred dollars later we received the 30 x 80 kit with the soft close and frame kits. First the instruction illustrations didn’t match the components in the kits and the several pages of cartoon pictures were not helpful at all. The instructions are the worst I have ever seen and the online I called the 800 number
The instructions suck but the result is great. I used Johnson 1500 soft close pocket door hardware with the optional plywood frame stiffeners, EMTEK handles, and the Eclisse jambs. There's no light leakage at all, and the door is smooth, silent, and about as soundproof as a regular door. For the jambs, I elected to toss the instructions and use a more traditional shim approach. With that approach you drywall and floor first, and install the jamb last. That way you can cut the jamb to be flush to the finished floor which is much nicer. You use shims instead of the shit metal things they provided, and I used screws to fasten it. For the top piece, you have to make sure it's removable or you can't reach your door hardware for adjustments ever again, so I countersunk two screws on each side to hold it in place but make it easy to take apart if I ever need to work on the door.
We had a big run in with Eclisse about this...they claimed it wasn't their video and that they didn't supply jambs with slots for clip in architrave as shown. We provided drawings explaining how with a 125 stud wall and 2mm skim each side the jambs were recessed and left a bare plasterboard edge. They weren't interested. Told us they sell thousands and no-one has complained. We ended up having to edge the plasterboard with finish beading and delicate caulking and painting. God help us if we ever need to remove the mechanism...which requires removing the jambs. Also on this job the doors were glass and the jambs plus brushes each side resulted in a 20mm slot for 8mm glass...looks rubbish. We don't fit these any more as you can understand!
