I don't know about that. Acaster is I think a comedy genius, but improv usually involves improvising when given a subject, not changing the subject. Your comment reminded me of the video 'NTNOCN - Schoolboy & Headmaster (parrot) - Rowan Atkinson' (my aunt who I live with had a parrot). Acaster was comedy gold here but not really improv in my book :)
Tony Flies no-one's doing improv here, they're just using material they've already got that vaguely fits the subject. Acaster's just being more obvious about it, which is why it's funny
@@weswheel4834 that's funny you mention Rowan Atkinson, seeing as James Acasters ex partner left him for Rowan. James jokes about how you know it's bad when a girl leaves you for Mr.bean lol
@@jonhohensee3258 Its more of a meta joke. He didnt need to cheat, he's a British Comedian with plenty of bits on the UK. The fact he didnt go to one of his normal bits on the UK but instead did one on wanting to be Mexican honesty made it more funny.
It's what pretty much every comedian does. They are fairly vague topics on purpose. They tend to just segway into whatever part of their routine fits the topic. ... Or if you're James Acaster you just go for some random unrelated topic from your repertoire.
So he's given the topic of "adventure" and goes with something incredibly banal, which seems fair enough, but I just found out that he has a segment on Josh Widdicombe's show where he describes the massive number of scrapes he's been in. This guy's had more bizarre adventures than the rest of the panel.
@@meatsandwitch3141 I mean he openly said JoJo- _wait I'm ruining a joke my bad_ +John Palder This man has *_lived._* Look up his montage of "Would I lie to you" lmao
For some reason I read it as freezing the cheese and thought you were talking about the cheese jokes. I thought that you were saying if you freeze cheese before cutting it, it gives you straight slices
@@nicholase2868 we have an entire era of our history seeing if we like other countries stuff better Now we keep all their stuff in museums for them to look at when we dont let them take it home
“Open your ears, I’m playing that right now. ....you can request that song, during the next one” I don’t know how he managed to make the topic of Mexican music and Mexican food so hilarious
I think Seldom the Greater was a Hoplite, and therefore more of a spearman than a knifeman. Cutting a full slice of cheese, consistent with the original plan, is an art only the greatest of warriors mastered using a spear.
Small part of me wonders if any of this is pre-rehearsed cause its just so good and extremely quick. It's blatantly obvious when its on american talk shows like Jimmy Fallon does the "imitate a singers style playing this random chosen song" that there's no randomness do it and they prepared ahead of time.
You can be sure, that like all comedy genuises, this stuff is well-rehearsed. He's very good at off-the-cuff one-liners too - but these stand-up routines are practiced for hours. He makes it look like he's winging it, but that's why he's so good.
yeah. i've heard him use some of these jokes in other places before. probably part of why the things he talked about were pretty tangential to the topics - he was pulling out stuff that he's already practised. still very impressive and well done but definitely not invented on the spot
I'm glad others have pointed out that not much of these shows is actually "off the cuff" but they're very clever nonetheless to come up with the material initially.
TIL: You can use that side of the cheese grater to slice the cheese. I immediately went to the kitchen with a small block of Red Leicester to test this claim, and it actually worked.
Oh THANK YOU! Of course I had to hit 'pause' and go to the kitchen, find my cheese grater straight away, and then tried out the side with the slits. Result: Beautiful, even, superfine slices! And easy!! How did I never know that....
This was the first time I ever heard of this idea, so I immediately went to test it in the kitchen with a small block of Red Leicester. It worked surprisingly well. You learn something new every day.
