Actually, the angry Rhino that attacked James' parents did not necessarily eat them. It could mean that an angry rhinoceros got out of a zoo and went on a rampage, killing James's parents in the process. Since then the Rhino has been an image of James's fear in his imagination which took the form of a Rhino-shaped storm cloud. Some fans say that the Rhino is James's inner demon that took the form of a Rhino to scare him.

Strangely enough, I found James and the Giant Peach to be scarier than Nightmare Before Christmas when I was a kid. Not enough to make me stop watching either movie or even nightmare fuel, but they were mildly scary. Just enough to be, I guess, a gateway into a generation that loves horror movies. According to the original book, his parents were actually killed by a rhino. It had escaped from the zoo and killed them tragically.

Watching this film as a kid was very interesting to me because I was more accustomed to watching 2D animated films and James and the Giant Peach was my first exposure to stop-motion related movies. The story was strange, but in an interesting way and I like the characters, aside from the aunts. Imo, it’s a strange and fun film, kinda like Alice in Wonderland.

For the record. Joanna Lumley, (Spike) does look like that naturally. There is makeup, but nothing to change how her face looks.

I grew up with this Movie in late 90s and it Scared me but i still loved it. I really felt bad for James and wanted to be his friend but glad it turned out great for him. glad i bought it on blu ray and rewatched it and remembering the great times with this movie. Such a Classic ^^ 😃🍑🐛

I watched this movie so many times when I was a kid! I don’t remember if the story scared me or not (likely not, since I kept watching it), but I was enthralled by the animations, the characters, the music, and the art. ❤

When James was only four years old, a rhinoceros killed his parents. James' parents had gone to London for some shopping, and during their trip, a rhinoceros had escaped from the London Zoo. Within thirty-five seconds, the rhinoceros had eaten up both parents on a crowded street.

You should watch The Brave Little Toaster if you haven't seen it. It's another kids movie that was weirdly dark and left kids with nightmares. Apparently people who worked on it went on to form/work at Pixar, which kind of shows, it's almost like a proto-Toy Story.

I watch this at least once a year, there's a few movies that remind me of loved ones that have passed on and this is one of them -- what a great film! I grew up with all of the Tim Burton stuff, and I admit I showed Nightmare Before Christmas to my nephew when he was like 5? Luckily, it did not scare him. lol

The irony is that both centipedes AND spiders are the natural predators of just about all of the other bugs. I get why they gave the “scary” role to the spider, she’s a more infamous species, but centipedes will even eat smaller centipedes. 😳 Good thing he went for the seagull when he was hallucinating food.

This is actually based of the book of the same name by Roald Dahl. Really good novel, I loved it from start to finish. Highly recommend

Either it was a rhino that actually killed his parents, or an escaped prison convict (they were often regarded as animals) that killed them in the process of running away from the police. It could be that the bugs that took James to New York, were family that came to get him, cause in the book it is said the parents did have family in New York and that's why they wanted to go there. Im assuming Dahl was using symbolism in this children's book, or taking it from a fictional stance. Cause either way works spectacularly! :)

I think it was a regular rhino that escaped from a zoo if I remember correctly from reading the book when I was a kid, the movie took some liberties different from the book. But I still liked the movie too it came out when I was like 6 or 7 and I saw it, I didn't find it scary though, maybe younger kids might.

My third grade teacher had us read the book and then we saw it in the theater. She kinda disliked the movie since they changed some things. The book is always better but I sill enjoyed the movie.

The rhino escaped the zoo and killed his parents. The rhino became a long miserable memory to poor James. It was also a metaphor of James overall fears of his life.

I LITERALLY lived with my lesbian catholic aunt and her partner on a farm. They were mean terrible women. This movie always make those 5 years better😂
