James Blunt - Monsters (Reaction) 

One of my favorite parts is at the very end his dad pats his arm. You can see him wait a few beats as if to make sure the cameras are off before he expresses to his son how well he did. It is a small but giant gesture. On a related note, I find it super annoying that the "Click on me next" ads come up before songs are over. It detracts from the artists work.

When they were filming this everyone was crying and his dad, despite not being able to find a kidney donor at time of recording, said “why are you all crying, I’m not dead yet”. That’s stoicism for ya. 💛

this song is so hard to listen to. James did this as a tribute to his father. His dad was in stage 4 kidney failure and they couldnt find a donor. They didnt think Mr. Blunt Sr would live much longer. Not to long after this song came out a distant cousin came forward and was a match. As far as I know Blunt SR is doing ok.

His Dad has stage 4 chronic kidney disease. This was his goodbye. Samg ut for his Dad and his Dad wanted to do the video together for the memory after he was gone. The vudeo found its way to a family member who didnt know Charles was dying and that cousin was a match. So the sing saved his Dads life. He is alive and well today.

During the filming of the video is the first time his dad heard the song, thus the reason James was so emotional.

The monsters here are not about demons or bad things in their relationship. It's a reference to the dad that makes his children stay safe when they're young by chasing away the monsters under the bed or in the closet etc. Now at the time he thought his father was dying it was his turn to repay the favor and he didn't want his dad to be scared, hence the reference to his turn chase the monsters away. Of course I suppose in many ways that's all relative and will mean different things to different people depending on their own personal relationship with their fathers.

This is one of the most raw and honest emotional songs ever.

Ironically his father had donated a kidney and saved a life years earlier. At this taping his dad was dying but a distant relative saw this and was a match, so his father is still living. Amazing.

When he says it my turn to chase the monsters away , he’s referring to the time his dad “ chased the monsters away” When he was a scared child. Not it’s his turn to take care of the same for his dad, as he passes.

This was recorded live while his dad was still here, it was James goodbye to his father who was not expected to live. He had stage 4 kidney disease and he only had one kidney having already donated one. A distant cousin came forward and he got his transplant.

I’ve probably watched 100 reaction videos for this song. Some people get it straightaway and some don’t. I think out of the 100 videos that I’ve watched me and you are completely in sync and read it exactly the same. I think your interpretation of the story is exactly as it was intended to be interpreted. The second verse “I’ll read a story to you, only difference is this one is true”, no more fairytales, this is the real deal.

Just let it happen...every one cries listening to this.... it hits home to most of us...no need to analise or over think it. If you talk loud enough and pause often enough, you won't have to face the emotions.

This amazing, emotional and powerful song was recorded exactly as you see it in one take. James refused to use 'Auto-Tune' because he wanted this to be 100% authentic and real. I don't know how he held himself together but you hear his voice wavering a little towards the end. James and his dad are both former officers in the British military. This recording was made shortly after James' dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the kidney and was not expected to survive, but thank God they eventually managed to find a donor (a distant relation) and he survived.

You are the first one to actually get “ I’m not your son your not my father” a father and son both grow into men and become more friends than father and son, when this happens it’s harder to say I love you dad. Before it’s too late though……..

His father is sitting next to James at the end of the clip....and he WAS dying from stage 4 Kidney Failure. They could not find a donor and it was accepted that his Dad would not survive.....and he only had a few weeks left to live. James wrote this song and then he went into a room with his father and played it to him. His father agreed that the words were true. When this clip was released, a distant cousin saw it, came forward, got tested, was a match and he gave James' Dad one of his kidneys. James' Dad is still alive but THIS VIDEO SAVED Jam'es Dad's life. It is TRULY a powerful video.

some real stuff here guys. when a parent is facing the end their only concern is that their kids will be okay without them. This is James telling him that he is okay with it and now the roles are reversed and he will take care of him. He's giving him permission to go.
