Many probably wonder WHY James commited this horrific shooting and perhaps they don't have the time to view everything. What was his reasons? I have now seen the five interviews. Well to slim it down: Why did he do it? He does explain why. Basically he said that he was feeling very depressed and struggled to see any meaning to his nor any other humans existence. He said, instead of turning the depression into self harm he turned it into a desire to harm others, a desire he later carried out in the horrific shooting. He came up with a ''value system of humans'' where he defined living people as value (1) and dead people as (0). He became obsessed with the idea of accumelating other humans values the (1) and made up some rule saying if he killed another human then that humans value(all that person had done or would ever do) would be credited to him as (1) for each life he took. He went inside the theater and murdered 12 people injuring 70 others. He then stated that he had accumilated (12) values to his credit making him better than he was before. James described his horrific act as being a mission with a successful outcome. He said these thoughts of hurting others started somewhere in his teens and grew stronger until he finally acted on it. Up until that year he was studying something advanced(biotech related) and seemed to have things going for him. Instead he ruined so many lives. Very sick man.

1:30:00 when he says he likes techno, he had techno playing on his headphones during the shooting. He tuned out the screams and gunshots with something that made him feel comfortable. Also when the psychiatrist wants him to elaborate on why he volunteered at an orphanage. He wants James to show that he is capable of empathy and caring about others, proving more that his "insanity" plea, is bogus. You don't have to be clinically insane to murder people, you can be of sound mind, and calculated. It's terrifying. Much of his questions for James are geared toward making him show that he doesn't completely lack empathy/sympathy. Someone truly insane, may not feel emotion at all. While James states he didn't have emotion while he was doing the shooting, it does show a history of empathy and caring, after the shooting as well. The forensic psychiatrist is William H. Reid. He's published 17 books and 200 peer-reviewed articles. For his interviews with James Holmes, he states he had prepared for 300 hours before even starting the interview. Been a Psychiatrist for 45 years. He knew almost everything about James before he went in there, but made it purposely seem like he didn't know much at all, talk about a master of your craft.

Volunteering doesn't show empathy. It shows him padding his resume for his personal gain. He can't even empathize with his own mother and father's feelings when they heard of him being a mass shooter... the dude is cracked and its obvious.

Of course you want the master for this one . survivors of these things are few and far between. This is the DR. Pinnacle.
@MatthewOceanXVX
@MatthewOceanXVX 3 года назад
@@shanna3148 You misunderstood, it’s not that volunteering automatically = a selfless empathetic action. Questions were asked about WHY he volunteered. Whether or not James was truthful in his answers as to why (he wanted to help kids or so he says) doesn’t really matter. The questions were asked so he could show that he is capable of understanding empathy, or at least had a history of understanding it. People aren’t born “cracked” as you put it. The forensic psychiatrists goal is to get the person of interest to open up and share things that they aren’t even aware they are sharing if that makes sense. Actions aren’t so much important in this setting, as reasons to WHY the actions happened. Most questions here are asked to show logical reasoning skills, history of empathy or an understanding of being empathetic toward other humans, as well as understanding consequence of actions. It’s not as simple as “this person is cracked”.

Well it's not crazy for mental health professionals (like this psychiatrist) to interview and evaluate these mass shooters to try to figure out what actually causes them to do this. Most of us, as angry as we could ever get, would never go on a mass killing spree. Maybe there are a lot of people who fantasize about it, but they don't go through with it. So the only way to hopefully stop the ones like this guy before they do lose their minds is for mental health care professionals to study them and learn from them. That way, we can all be taught warning signs, etc., and get more involved in paying more attention to ppl who might be crying out for help.

I know so many people my age who are exactly like him in almost every way. "Shy," did great in school, has a handful of friends, not antisocial but not a social butterfly, unwilling to expand upon things, super intelligent, super dedicated to achieving things in school though not necessarily physically, and if so only to prove they could, highly interested in the universe and what's going on around them on a significantly deeper level than most people, graduated with honors and near-perfect grades. It's erie to think that something misfired in that brain somewhere. Something went so right and yet so horrifically wrong at the same time.

I didnt find him attractive. Not ugly, looks wise (of course his insides made both insides n out ugly af) just not like a Brad Pitt level looks. Ya know? People said he was super charming, very sociable & had np getting woman. Just goes to show the real monsters can blend in pretty good..well most. His social anxiety just strikes me as something most Americans or humans deal with. He is sane for sure. Just made a horrible CHOICE to steal peoples lives! Including those poor families of the people he killed. Ugh so scary that these demons walk among us. I'll never understand 1 part tho. N srry so long. The part of nature vs nurture..most of the worst serial killers or mass murders seem to have pretty good upbringings. Esp. Compared to kids that grow up in the "perfect" storms. Like single mother, on welfare, very low income-poverty stricken, abused physically, sexually n verbally. The majority of those poor people grow up to Never hurt or kill anyone. These demons must be "made" in nature & the nurture has literally nothing to do with who they become. What do u think? Did I miss something? There’s lots of people like this guy in our society. We need to help them navigate through life. Some people find it difficult to be social. There’s nothing wrong or weird about that. We ought to embrace the good they can contribute and celebrate their efforts. It seems like he really tried.... going away for college, volunteering, camp counselor. Many comments here are counterproductive. Remember, many people like this do exist in our community, work place, school, church, and maybe in our own family. Are you helping? Are you doing your part? Agreed, tho maybe nothing could have really been done to prevent it, the university spreading the word to all the labs not to hire him? That seems . . . discriminatory/illegal. I don't think employers should be able to give such a bad review, just based on that he's too uncommunicative to be of value in a lab. IDK, surely some lab team might have been a fit for him, had they not been warned how odd he was. Back farther, to his childhood, none of the other reindeer let him play in their reindeer games. I mean, it's like bullying, these shunning tactics.

PRECISELY THAT! In the USA, anytime there’s a mass shooting , there’s this binary pro-gun/anti-gun argument rather than acknowledging the blatant fact that healthcare, specifically , for mental health is virtually inaccessible, and if you’re working class even on Medicaid, you’re lucky if you can see a psych once every 3 months . That plus a culture which praises competition and accumulation of excess and hedonism is bound to cause some people to become marginalized to the point of isolation then hatred/depression and psychosis. By no means are mass shootings justified in anyway but one must be intellectually blind if they do not see the causation between a shitty, money-hungry healthcare system plus a overwhelmingly hedonistic/ competitive culture is bound to cause some to fall into psychotic states when they cannot see identify with it.

A lot of people in the comments should remember that with the full context of what he did, it’s tempting and easy to be hyper vigilant about mannerisms trying to connect dots and reconfirm what we think we already know about him. Remove the context and it’s just a regular dude. Honestly if you take any random candid video of a person innocent of any crime in this setting, if someone told you it was a serial killer, you’d have an easy time finding patterns trying to confirm what we have already preconceived about the person. By his own admission he’s just very introverted and shy. People capable of terrible things are more often than not no different from anyone else on the surface, it’s just that we tend to remember notable anomalies of people “acting crazy” more than the forgettable everyman. It’s easier to remember a plane crash than a safe landing, which contributes to a phenomenon called frequency illusion.
