Some players will speed up or slow down in one measure and then on top of that the swing style in jazz really can throw you off if your more classically trained to read rhythms as their written..
i can't even read or understand the notes let alone play them- out of this world stuff to ordinary trumpet players like me. but as long as it sounds superdelicious who cares!!!!!!!!!!
