Fine it was 'legal' (perhaps a little borderline). Maybe Benn and Josh Manson need to get 'reacquainted' just to make sure it's not up for debate again.
@@jaitao5656 yeah, no. He also didn't square up southpaw, he switched and Manson pulled him in, and while pulling him in, Benn switched back. He's lost at least half his fights. Also as someone that used to partake in mma a bit, that's how I square up initially or any time we or I recover off the mat to our feet. My right hand jab is/was fast and gave me an advantage. Never really did it on the ice.
Watch it in normal or slow mo and look at 2/3 of the angles. Benn almost has no way to avoid a dicey hit. Watch his eyes too. Instead, he looks into it, leans into it, and he clearly intends to raise his shoulder into Toews's head.
@@kevinjones8407 I'm Canadian, we are born and bred hockey fans. The league quickly reviewed it and didnt call it a penalty, Enough said. I'm not a team partisan brain dead fan. If I see a good hit, I call it as I see it. I hope you can do the same some day.
Clean hit, stop drafting skin and bone hockey players. Toews is 6'1" and doesn't even weigh 200 pounds as a professional athlete. Benn is probably one of the few big old school hitters in the league that looks for clean hits. He is quiet in the regular season for the most part but playoffs keep your head up.
192Ibs isn’t absurdly skinny for 6’1 lol. It wasn’t even the initial hit that injured him, it was him going head first into the other player after the hit.
Jamie's old school, he plays on the edge but that hit was legal. No surprise the refs wanted a second look on that one, can't blame them for wanting the replay.
Old school includes cross checking guys on the backs of their necks? This hit wasn't an issue, but he has a reputation as a dirty POS for a reason. Let's not pretend.

How can you even say that??? Shoulder to shoulder??? Yeah... If his shoulder is on his chin. You are an ignoramus, dude. That is textbook hit to the head. Much lesser plays have been called as a Major. You are out of your mind.
Been has been dishing out the hits in the playoffs..taking a few too..been watching him his whole career...tough ad nails...can fight, score, assist, hit, etc...underrated player...over 900 points and has never had an elite teammate. He'd score 50 goals now if he were w the Oilers
Or Kassian when my oilers played them. Boy did they complain to the refs every commercial time out.manson ran around cheapshotting. I felt if we were ALLOWED to forecheck n hit it would have been a different series. Fu** in league steps in and calls series different. And we got swept. My opinion.
read the comments, clowns love that cavemen stuff and ask for more so until a player get killed on ice they will tolerate these kind of predatory hits and charges to the head.
Pretty iffy. So focused on the contact to the head that they forgot that it could easily be charging. He skated into the hit and left his feet, and ya, he hit his head. But whatever. Trenin or someone else just needs to do the same thing to Heiskanen.
What are you looking at? Watch it with your eyes, not your freakin feelings, he coasted into him and his feet left the ice after the collision. Crybaby Av fan.
Lowkey veteran move, a hit that changes the entire structure of Colorados blue line, an incentive for the Stars, while up 2-0 in the 2nd where their opponent are up 1-0 in the series. Playoffs bring the best out of guys like Benn, you need guys like these to win.
pretty highkey to take toews outta the game and get it League reviewed, with intermission commentary. What's 'lowkey' about it, or is that just kiddie slang that means nothing?
As an avs fan It looked like it went shoulder and then up but i think toews got more dazed from hitting his head on the other play. Im more mad that avs just didnt do nothing and just watch him laying there
I mean yes and no. Regular season there’s a fight happening 100% but would you rather have Makar or mackinnon (both people going at Benn here) even rantenen gets in there gone from the game for 5 or no? Contact was elbow/upper arm to shoulder first and then he just went through him and toews’ head hits Benn’s shoulder. SOLID hit. You couldn’t get this more on the line if you tried.
Legal, but shady as fuck by a known opportunist. And lol, no answer? Manson and Mackinnon both would ruin him if they started scrumming. And Colorado took home ice advantage away from the Stars... they also showed the Stars any lead they might muster up is useless. The Hockey Guy even stated this much, and he's rooting for the Stars. Now to Colorado ice where the Avs get to dictate the matchups... Stars had to win that game or they might have gotten swept.

Watched it 10x so hard to tell but I think it's a good no call. Full speed no way you can call. Even slow motion damn near impossible to tell. Keep your head up.
Charging is when a player: Jumps to check an opponent. Builds up speed by taking two or more strides immediately prior to making contact. Travels an excessive distance with the sole purpose of delivering such a hit. Violently and unnecessarily checks an opponent in any manner. Delivers a body check to an opponent’s blind side. A “charge” may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice. A Minor penalty will be assessed to any player who charges an opponent. Note 1: A blindside hit will be defined as an ‘open-ice body check that is delivered from an angle of approach outside a 90° peripheral point of view of a vulnerable opponent, whether or not the player has the puck. Should an open-ice body check be delivered from within a 90º angle of approach and the check is otherwise legal in all other aspects, then no penalty would be assessed. At the discretion of the Referee, based on the degree of violence of the impact, the Referee may assess a Major penalty and Game Misconduct penalty for charging. If a player is injured, as the result of a charging infraction that would otherwise call for a Minor penalty, a Major penalty and Game Misconduct penalty must be assessed. A Match penalty will be assessed to any player who charges an opponent in such a way that they are unable to defend themselves or who deliberately attempts to injure an opponent by charging.

Elbow in, and shoulder to shoulder. He makes sure it doesn't go shoulder to head. Looks pretty okay to me. He's probably shaken up from tumbling with his head into the second Stars player there. Bad timing
@@Kallogee change of two line pass and hooking , slashing , interference and obstructions , todays game suppose to be more fast and more goals 😊, but old days players sure more tough , search 94 Canucks run video clips , those hits were murderous yet they still come back up and play immediately
Benn targeted the head - he hit shoulder and head, but the target was Toew's head - if the NHL wants the Goon Era to resume, no calls like this are the WA y to get there. Ave played like crap, especially 2nd period, but that this could be a no call is a problem for the NHL.
It's also benn, and it was charging. And he's like trouba he's not afraid to injure to win a game. I really don't understand how it wasn't charging. I definitely would say it's not a suspendable hit. But it was charging.
Leaves his feet. Should have been charging at the least. Also everyone just repeating "Keep your head up" the puck was bouncing around and Toews had to look down to see where it was. You can't have your head up all the time.
I agree as a stars fan played like shit in the 3rd but all of those goals weren't on the goalie. Defense needs to get there shit together. Stop playing Defense because they think the game is out of reach. Wish the team played like they were down in this game
Avs played like shit that game until the last 15 min of the 3rd. Dallas playing dirty as usual, but showed they were they better team this game for sure.
Even if the head contact came first it still wouldn’t have been a penalty. The league has always viewed head contact as permissible if it is done in conjunction with an otherwise clean body check. With elbow tucked in and skates firmly planted on the ice, the only question for the referees is whether the hit constituted a full body check. And on that score there was quite a lot of contact with the shoulder and chest to qualify this as a full body check.
I’m the furthest thing from a fan of captain crosscheck but he made literally no head contact at any point during that hit. Frame by frame it, not even on the follow through.
@@PlumbSurprised If his head snapped from body contact, it would move forwards, in the opposite direction of the hit. It didn't move forward, did it? It moved backwards because it was the primary point of contact.
@@drewkoslow7754 I see what you're trying to say, but it's incorrect. The head will often snap back from the force of the body contact, that's what whiplash is. Go watch a compilation of hits and you'll see it happen often. Your argument would have more credibility (but not much) if you used the high position and angle of the hit instead.
Take a close look, Benn's feet leave the ground. They reviewed this too fast. " if a player's skates leave the ice before a hit, that's considered "jumping into" the hit and therefore a charging penalty"

lol of course there's no consistency in the NHL. One game it's an illegal hit and in another it's legal. He hit him in the jaw, that's contact to the head. If they want to make it illegal then stop giving Benn and Truba a fuckin pass. I don't care either way but pick one and stick with it.

This is all well and good but did you see Benns reaction later in the game after Manson checked him into his own bench? Benns reaction was like he was possessed or on something, really weird. They need to drug test him.
I’m old enough to remember when a guy made the td exact same hit (minus the charging) and he got thrown out for 4 playoff games. The other team DEMANDED he get thrown out, or they were going to kill him. I guess everyone was a COMPLETE PUSSY in 2020 or something.
