It would be great to hear Dave talk about the making of "Then she did" seeing it is such a "piece" by Jane's addiction, with the build up, tension, release etc. It's a great song with a lot of layers. And also how they where able to make those massive guitarsounds. Not only for this song, but for both albums in general.

Anything off of John Mellencamp's Scarecrow. Ry Cooter, Kenny Aronoff Rickie Lee Jones and so many other great players. And Don Gehman did such a great job getting powerful drum sounds without going as far as most of the drums in the 80's did.

Not sure if the people involved are available but any of what they now call NWOBHM, Maiden, Priest etc., I love the full guitar sound and natural drums of that time (not that I don't like scooped mid guitars and machine gun kicks also lol!)

Well..... my obvious awnser, Master of Puppets, Either Micheal Wagener or Flemming Rasmussen in your studio Warren. Should that ever happen Plz inforn me I will book the time off school and book a flight to L.A I wanna sit on your couch and just listen for that conversation lol. In terms of Janes Addiction. I always thought they had one of the tightest rhythm sections in rock such a great band.

Eric Avery is hands down the best bass player of all time (at least in alt rock music)! He even auditioned for Tool and Metallica and didnt took the gig, because he'll be forever remembered for those magnificent first two JA albums! Up The beach, Ted, Three Days, Summertime... it's all about the octaves and repetition in his playing! Very punk rock/post punk! He's one of the few musicians you can tell by ear who's playing, like the Tony Allen of bass! Thanks Warren for these kind of videos!!

Hi Friends, Dave Jerden is one of my best friends and mentors. Over the years I have learned many great things from him and it always a pleasure to sit down with him and talk music! In this episode we talk about Jane’s Addiction’s ‘Been Caught Stealing’ a masterpiece of a song! The first time I heard it I was blown away with its originality! It's a killer of a song, indeed, and the quality of your content is stellar. As many songs by Big Star as you could manage. David Bowie, of course - any era. The songs on Paul Simon's Graceland. Depeche Mode. Soundgarden. Siamese Dream/Mellon Collie era Smashing Pumpkins. Southern Harmony era Black Crowes. The Pixies. Lee 'Scratch' Perry. The Minutemen. And some specific songs: Dusty Springfield's Son of a Preacherman. Mannfred Mann's cover of Blinded by the Light. Kate Bush's Hounds of Love. Doors' Riders on the Storm.

Dave Jerden breaks my brain. When I watch him speak I expect him to say something completely preposterous and insane and then he says something I completely agree with, like troublingly so. When he said sound is simple, or easy, light is complicated. I was like "holy shnizzle!!!" :) I've used that expression myself. Dave Jerden might be the guy I didn't know was my favorite producer. I don't know if it would be possible but I'd love to see a "record drums with Dave Jerden" video.

Jane's at their peak were untouchable. Had there been a follow-up to Ritual, it would have been transcendent. Ritual already was. The whole '87 - '92 Alt era was insane.
@Gcssdvnkloiutesc
@Gcssdvnkloiutesc Год назад
No, it would of bombed or been just mediocre. The first porno album would of been the next Janes album give or take a few tracks.
@m-funkshun
@m-funkshun Год назад
@@Gcssdvnkloiutesc Respectfully disagree. Sonically, technically, and atmospherically, DiStefano couldn't touch Navarro and it's all that + compositionally, LeNoble couldn't touch Avery. Listen to any of the B-sides, bootlegs, and one-offs released from that '90-'91 era and the stuff is fire. Farrell's beef with Avery looks to have been 100% ego-driven and of course, the drug situation by '90-'91 was totally out of control, but we all lost for their breakup. '96 and subsequent reunions featured the antics but the continuity and songwriting were already over. And w/o Avery, Jane's Addiction simply isn't Jane's Addiction. Avery's writing and deep, ominous, baritonic assault could never be matched, either by PfP or Chris Chaney. I remember popping in PfP's first album and it was like everything else that followed the '87'-'92 explosion... weak and a pale imitation of what had proceeded it.

Could anyone point me to that "Do you love me" record he's talking about? I can't find it and can't quite understand the name of the band.

Hey so Iv been wondering . How can I record two Amps for guitar.. should I do them both at the same time or one take each and layer Them ? I have two different amps that sound huge together but in terms of phase, should I just record both at once? Or do one after another? I think of using two guitar tracks w different amps atleast for one perceived track, so in other words if I want one rhythm guitar and one lead, I’m really recording two rhythm tracks to be felt as one guitar and two guitars to be the lead. Can I just record two amps at the same time for each part? How do I make sure the phase is correct on both amps other than checking wave forms in the daw and the sound canceling each other out .... I know with one amp you put the two mics as close as possible but what if the two mics are each on two Different amps ( one mic per amp )? Do I simply put each mic the same distance distance from their respective amp and record both amps at the same time and end of story? Or do I record first amp separate and just do a second take for the second amp ? if I do that is there a dependable way to make sure all those mics will be in phase? Thanks

The 1965 B-movie cult classic, “Rat Pfink A Boo Boo” by Ray Dennis Steckler effectively employs the man-in-a-gorilla suit idea (billed as Kogar The Swinging Ape). It’s just like Jerden says - it’s irrelevant, irreverent and smashes everything up and just works! Watch the full film on RU-vid...PS: hang in there for the first 20 minutes; legend is Steckler changed the script completely during filming, coming up with the Batman & Robin spoof and running with it. It’s one of my top fave films of all time. Great stuff! Btw, the gorilla shows up in the big fist fight at the end. Enjoy! (RDS, RiP)
