"Like most girls I’m always really self-conscious about do I look fat, if my legs are short, if I’m weird shaped, but when I go on stage, man, it never occurs to me, I think I look beautiful. " Janis Joplin
She was never self conscious cause she was wasted 99% if the time haha. But she really had an amazing talented soul. Her voice was original and can never be duplicated. Just like Jimi and Jim Morrison.. all three of them are the faces of what music and art should be.
Janis is unique. No other voice will ever even get near to her. She took this beautiful song by Bee Gees, turned it inside out, and made it the lament of a desperate soul. Timeless.
I saw Janis on July 7, 1970 at the Civic Auditorium in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The ticket was a gift from my Mother on my 15th birthday. The show was then, and still is to this day one of the big thrills of my life. My Mother worked at the Holiday Inn where Janis was staying, and brought me her autograph. I asked her how she knew it was her...she told me, " I guessed by the way she was dressed, and all of the people with her, that she was somebody important." Janis was dead three months later. A bright and shining star that burned out too soon. RIP , Pearl....
+Brian Duncan lol You can't help but to not sing along. (Doesn't sound right, but I'm sure you get my drift). Brings back memories of younger days. Ahhhh the good old days . . . .
Existem muitas deusas e deuses, rainhas e reis.
When she hits that note at 0:52 no matter where I am or what I am doing, chills run down my spine. She is a legend, I so wish I could've seen her live. I would pay anything. RIP Pearl
Thank you Barry, Robin, and Maurice, for writing such a beautiful song, recorded by many talented artists, including yourselves. I've been listening to every artist that ever recorded this song so thanks to all the individuals posting these videos
@@nayeontwicestreet132 they actually wrote "To Love Somebody" for Otis Redding. Unfortunately, he died in a plane crash before he could record it. Barry Gibb has said that he and his brothers considered themselves to be songwriters first and performers second.
She is the epitome of what is missing in today's music. Singing from the heart and pouring out your soul and meaning every word in a song. Anyone can sing, but not everyone can be a singer.......Rest In Peace Janis!
My god what a voice! That woman could reach deep down in your soul and grab whatever has got you down and throw it at you in a giant ball of energy...she's been gone for 45 years now...let that sink in...HALF A CENTURY...and I swear to god the hair on my neck still stands on end when I hear that amazing woman belt out a tune. Dear beautiful Pearl...you left us way too soon but your music will live on forever.
TickleBiscuit Ball and chain! That song man,..mm that song got me through. Janis definitely has a voice and the soul and voice to bring anyone to their knees.
Can you believe her tasteless w peers for decades in her schools and city didn't recognise and harassed her. They dont recognise ART because they are plain flat boring jealous haters. I knew this lady's voice since I was a crawling and I never forgot the goodness richness , when I was a teen I sang a verse and asked my mom who is that lady with the full horse voice she replied Janis Joplin. This lady knows what time it is? And if you dont know, you'll find out! REAL RECOGNISES REAL Aug 27 2k19 10:03AM F
No one will ever come close to the talents of the great Janis Joplin. She was taken from this world far too soon. I wish I had been older in the 1960's , I would have given anything to have had the privilege of seeing her live. Her talent, guts and passion will be remembered forever. She opened so many doors for lead female vocalists. She is an extraordinary talent. She can never be forgotten or replaced. She is, and will continue to be a great inspiration. I love you Janis
The Bee Gees were icons and wrote fantastic songs. And they were absolutely amazing on stage. And Janis takes one of their best songs and gives it more than justice - by doing it her way. Brilliant!!!
The heart and soul Janis put into her music is just incredible, I was lucky enough to see her live in Concert in Jan..'70. It broke my heart the day she died at such a young age, she had so much more to give.
+zjkrone When I saw Janis in Concert in Jan.'70 I was 22 years old, and as I have said I feel so lucky to have been able to see her perform live in Concert. What gives me such great satisfaction is that a person of your age see's listens to her music and appreciates the true talent Janis had. It's young people like you that will keep her memory alive for years to come.
Milton Williams so sad. Im young but each time I see her videos I think how it could be to see her if she were alive just as I am going to see Roger Waters, for example, in a few months. 😟
The female singers of the 60’s were a special breed. Janis was one of my favorite along with a totally different style artist, Cass Elliot of The Mamas & The Papas. Both of these ladies broke the mold that society expected of them. Both were artist with great voices, who left us us all too soon. Check out the You Tube recording of Janis singing Ball & Chain at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festive where Janis made her debut. Cass was sitting in the audience watching the performance and you can tell from her response that she too was blown away. Cass went on to close the festival with the Mamas & Papas singing Dancing in the Street. So glad we have those remarkable performances.
I know she is a legend, but why does she not get more recognition? The feeling she has in her songs will still be admired in 2286 (if we are still around by then). Awesome!
My Dad thought that she was an amazing talent that went too soon. He said that a lot of people went before their time in the 60's. We are seeing a repeat of that in today's society. It's sad.
After all these years I am still stunned by this amazing Texas lady. That voice was a gift from God. You left this world way too soon. Sleep in heavenly peace.
I know I'm going to have a bunch of dislikes but... for me she'll always be the biggest female musician of all time !!! The Queen of Music!! And I don't think someone will ever going to past her mark...So... I wish you all a nice and beautiful day :D
Omg were did she come from such soul in that voice it can only mean she had struggles she sings from pain and it's so real i wish i was alive to have seen her
Me too. She's one of the infamous 27 club sadly. I like her because we share the same struggles. I long for the amazing music she would have gone on to make while being grateful for the music she left us with. She was a beautiful soul.
Te amo janis. Desde que te escuché por primera vez, no pude dejar de hacerlo luego. Sos única en voz y en interpretación. Te entregabas en cada canción, mujer!! Que perdida tan grande habrás sido... tanto talento y sentimientos que dar
I miss Janis. She was the voice of a generation, my generation. I grew up listening to Janis and watching her on numerous TV talk shows, but the highlight was at Woodstock. Man, what a time to be young and alive. Now all I have are my memories and old age is creeping in fast.
What an incredible performance! I saw JJ live in 1969 and she was amazing. This may be the best I've ever heard JJ sound. The song, the band and that voice. Wow!
Incredible! There will never be another Janis! ❣️💛💛💛💛💛💛 She must have been so exhausted after even one song. She gave like 200% of herself to every performance.
This is such an awesome and cool song, with Janis Joplin singing it. She gives it a lot of heart and soul. I just get goose bumps when I hear her, and watching her sing this great classic song. R.I.P. Janis Joplin
They say that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Therefore, I am the "beholder." When I watched her in one of her interviews, she mentioned why she gave every thing up for her music. Then, I looked at her beautiful piercing blue eyes, and I just felt her pain and all of her negative feelings.
Since I was away, I feel disoriented and I am trying to adjust to being home. I remember my daughter and I watched a commercial. My daughter asked me who was singing, and I told her it was Janis Joplin? I couldn't understand why Janis's song was used to sing in that commercial...
...the BEST woman EVER to grace a microphone. i have all of her albums and i fall in love with her voice all over again every time i play them. JANIS FOREVER. the grave can't even conceal the power in her voice. DAISUKI DESU!
That Is By far The greatest Version I ever Heard of this Song. Such Voice as Janis Soul Will Not Even find in our present Time. Thanx a lot for sharing!
Ms Joplin...a performance conceived in pain and chemical haze....baring an all consuming inner soul....dark....troubled....destructive....and yet mesmerising and beautiful!
Almost 2020. See kids this is what real true talent is. To sing from your gut with compassion and soul. Janis gave it her all. And Her all was loved by the world
