Her voice is one of a kind and no one will ever ever ever come close to her raw and unbelievable talent!! ❤ God Bless her soul!! In a way she was way ahead of her time with her music and voice and soul.....❤❤❤ When she died the World lost a very beautiful and supremely talented young woman!! She's definitely a Rock Goddess in my opinion!!! ❤❤❤❤
Matt, Janis was bullied as a youth, had her heart broken by several men and had drug and alcohol addiction until her early death, you could feel the pain in every word she sang, Courtney is 13 and from a good home.......who's ignorant?
Well brother why didn't you just take her and love her, the same reason I didn't I was scared to death. I was like a puppy on my knee and pissing everywhere
She is the only woman in the music industry that didn't undercut her music or her voice for anyone. She gave women a certain freedom in the 60's and she told everyone to suck it up. And never gave up. Yet there is so little appreciation. There are no statues, no books on her carving an industry for women. She didn't lean on anyone, she didn't play barbie, or house, she didn't pretend for the media. And because of that as most women in history she died young for doing what she did. An amazing talent, and a goddamn WOMAN. Never had another since.
HAHAHA HYPOCRITES ,,,WHAT IS WAS OK FOR OBAMA!!!,,,IT IS GOOD HERE TOO,,,,,,,,,,,ITS BEEN THE ELECTORAL VOTE X CENTURY,,U DONT LIKE IT ,TOO BAD,U LOST IDIOTS!!!!!!
Although she died six years before I was born, she is one of my favorite singers of all time. She is/was a TRUE artist. Back before RU-vid, videos and computer searches at your fingertips, artists HAD to have talent. Now in our time and culture, talent is unfortunately based on your physical appearance. Just look pretty and we can auto tune your voice and you can lipstick. But if you’re not an attractive person, good luck getting a record deal. One of the first ladies of rock and roll. RIP Janis.
@@Conn30Mtenor old comment, but I thought she personally picked this band? Big Brother was the band that didn't want to change their sound with horns, etc.
People nowadays like to use "face-melting" as an adjective, but I think when you listen to this you can actually feel your epidermis start to peel off your skull. Janis is one of the few people who I'd put up with Otis Redding for pure, atom-bomb soul power.
I was born in 1986, Now 28 y/o... I love Janis soo much. I've been listening to her now for over a decade and I've fallen in love with her absolutely astonishing voice and passion. I think the first song I fell in love with was "Ball and Chain". She was an awesome woman and an unforgettable singer.
I'm 19 and I love Janis she was a awesome singer, you can actually feel what she's feeling while she sings, I also love Elvis, Dolly Parton, Ricky Nelson, The Carpenters and many others
I always forget she was the same height as I am at 5'5" which, from my perspective, is relatively short. Guess it's because she was such a huge talent. She's one of those people who probably used up all the oxygen in any room she entered. Absolutely love her. Absolutely miss her.
She was amazing. I wish i could have met her or lived in that time....period lol im a hippie at heart sometimes. I love me some blues once in a while. Especially when im cleaning house
Janis always gives all of her energy whenever she sings. That was such a magnificent performance! I was so glad to see that she was on The Dick Cavett show, I'm sure he gave her some thing to drink, because she seemed out of breath.
There has never been another female artist who was so genuine, soulful as Janis. She had the spirit of a butterfly. She had the ability to grab your heart and turn it inside out til you were free .She was colorful in appearance like a rare butterfly that you wanted to hold on to for a little while .I have not heard or seen such talent and beauty since Janis. She was real and that is what is beautiful to me...
I was 13 when I started listening to Janis, still do today many moons later, She made a huge impact on my life, ........best female singer ever, Would have loved to meet her! We lost a true icon 🎵🎤👉 💜
I was very ..very..young when I listened to her for the first time and I was thrilled ...also now after many years...I'm 54....great memories! Great voice!
Janis you are missed soooo much.....you'll never be forgotton....live on in our hearts forever!!!! Thank God for RU-vid so we can all enjoy seeing your vibrant performances!! xoxoxoxoxo
Saw her performance three months after this, October 17, 1969 in Austin, TX. She was one of the greatest talents of our time, and that was one of the greatest shows I ever saw -- and it was in a gymnasium! I never tire of hearing her recordings, but seeing and hearing her live was like nothing else I've experienced. She was the real thing, and there was and ever will be only one Janis.
i love this because not only was she on point but the guy in the back with the tambourine was getting down..guy shakin it in the back=me shakin it because i cant help it..good video..great band
I was lucky enough to live during the heyday of Janis, Hendrix, and Morrison. Those three epitomized the spirit of the sixties and Janis was the Queen of the Rock World. He boldness and straightforward way was uncommon for women during that time, but sadly she was misunderstood and her tortured soul was too much for her to overcome. During her trip to her hometown of Port Arthur, TX, she wasn't received with open arms and film clips taken during her stay actually caught the hurt she experienced while there. But her music lives on and these wonderful videos of her on the Dick Cavett Show are the best. I remember seeing this for the first time in 1969.
Yep! She was more beautiful than we can possibly have NOW. Her style and charisma and heart and feelings and SOUL made mer more beautiful than the assembly-line music we have now. Its so awful how music has changed and become THAT! assembly-line. xx Best to ya "Jen"
I'm only 18, I wish I could've went to Woodstock and saw this amazing woman perform. Janis is incredible, she had her own style and made it work to her advantage, and it blows my mind, you can just see her heart and soul is in every lyric to the songs she sings just by watching or listening to her. Thanks for posting her live, this made my day :)
+Jim Nesta ooh, good choice, with Eric Burdon. She was on Tom Jones' show - did they ever duet? Sometimes similar styles, throaty blues. I could see it. :>)
I was extremely fortunate to have seen Janis perform twice in person. Those were 2 of the best things I've EVER done. One was in a large venue in Memphis, TN, but I had a great seat; & the other was a relatively small venue, Winterland in San Francisco, CA, where I was right in front in the middle at the stage. All I can say is: Electrifying, & I REALLY mean it. She went through so much negativity she didn't deserve when she attempted to be a beatnik in Port Arthur, TX. Talk about being misunderstood! They still didn't understand her even after she was rich & famous--they STILL mistreated her! I've compared her to Jim Morrison who was a beatnik at around the same time. At least he was in Florida which was a little more open. People say she did look quite happy during the time before she died. They commented on her driving around town in her Porsche with the top down smiling. She certainly deserved a lot better than she got. Her friends didn't like her fiancee, because he wasn't faithful. I guess they discounted Janis' bisexuality & what that would mean. R.I.P., Janis, R.I.P!
OMG, face melted off again listening to Janis! What a phenom, I get goosebumps listening to her!!!!The Kozmic Blues Band had so much soul that can't help not being pulled in to their world.
I became a huge fan of Janis Joplin's in 1968 and was so very lucky to see her in Concert in Jan. '70 and what a performance she gave. I was just devastated when she died so suddenly in Oct. '70. Thanks to RU-vid her memory and her talent will live on for many years to come.
She's bringing me back when music was pure...It was all about talent and didn't count on electronics. Seeing her live was exactly like listening to the radio. She left us far too soon😢❤❤❤❤
