Hououin Kyouma "Innit" is slang and very informal so don't think about using it with the Queen. 😄 Plus Chris has a posh accent and pronounces his words how they should be said and doesn't shorten them. Example, he says "Something" but the slang is "Summat". And that guy used "Innit" in the wrong way. Because his sentance starts off with "Looks good" he should have used "Doesn't it" instead of "Innit". If you don't know, "Innit" is slang for "Isnt it". So he basically said "Looks good, isn't it?" 😆
baybeehannah19 "innit" originated from the burberry wearing "chavs" ( or "chavvie's" which was a popular term British travellers used to call anyone who did manual labour for them ie, tarmac laying, roofing, etc). Now the term has spread to all classes including the gentry, as has most abbreviations, it's use no longer signifies class as much as it does an off hand remark later regretted or just an unwillingness to construct full sentences ie laziness.
Yeah but to be fair, in the UK, a lot of foreigners and even British people speaking slang do say "innit" a lot so within the right crowds it wouldn't be weird at all. But yeah it is very informal so amongst people who are speaking "proper" English it does sound weird and people may make fun of you for saying it so I would avoid it. But then again I wouldn't really care too much either, so for me it's not a big deal but anyway, don't say innit to your mum like that yeah? haha.
Probably the most fun I've ever had making a video. Despite having to get up at silly o'clock, after downing a coffee I was good to go for a 3 hour stroll around the market. Admittedly it helped that there was so much amazing food, that I forget I was tired - I also forget it was the morning, given I was stuffing myself with fried chicken. I definitely plan to go again later in the year, and I can't recommend it enough if you're looking to explore a decent market in Japan. It's 1000% times better and more memorable than Tsukiji fishmarket (although to be fair, Tsukiji is more of a B2B market, not for tourists).
I have watched your videos on and off for quite a long time and never bothered commenting. Just wanted to say I love them, it's great to get a more honest insight into Japan because when you think about it we see so little of it in the West that everyone thinks they are just a bunch of insane anime loving stereotypes with weird fetishes. It's nice to see it all through the eyes of a fellow cynical brit as well, the videos are so chill and easy to watch that sometimes I throw them on the TV in the early hours when I can't sleep. If I ever end up taking some time to go exploring Japan (Which I want to eventually), your videos will probably be a part of the studying material for planning. Keep up the good work!
Squidmouth is undeniably a fantastic band name - BUT WHAT WOULD YOU CALL YOUR INDIE ROCK BAND? And would you spend $500 on that Mitsubishi Mini car? LET US all know below!
i don't know about that model, but that Mitsubishi brand and that price, i think it's a steal. I heard from my sister and my friends that studied in Japan that, used-cars in that country are usually well-maintained by their former owners.
My first thought was Chumbucket - but it turns out that's already been used in Spongebob.... Story of my life - like when I wanted to open a Japanese restaurant chain called Nippon Tuck. Oh, well, the underwear shop called Smart Arse is still a possibility...
Probably a little late, but most working animals are bred for that sort of thing. And many enjoy their work. The same way, herding dogs will have an instinct to group animals and people into groups. It's instinctive.
Chris, can you do a video of you speaking Japanese? I know you say you speak English for your viewership, but I can bet there a lot of us curious to hear your flawless Japanese :)
In his, "Speaking Japanese Fluently in 6 Months" he briefly has a conversation with Natsuki, where he's giving an example of how to use certain Japanese phrases in a conversation.
I used to live in Japan in my 20's to see the country my parents were from, but i never got to really ' live ' there with the extreme work ethics ( working 12-20 hour shifts ). it's a treat seeing all your videos, thank you for creating this awesome content :)
I have to say, you're really getting good at directing and editing your videos, Chris. They feel professional: smooth, informative, dynamic. ...It did bug me though that you didn't answer Ryotaro's question on whether you were enjoying the chicken. >_>
That part made me chuckle a bit. He said "it's the future of breakfast" followed by "better than KFC". Which would suggests that KFC is Chris' usual breakfast. ;)
Yeah I agree this is quality content and very interesting to get to know Japan which is not very presented in western media but... Chris sometimes seems a bit egocentric and must admit it's a bit annoying at times. Maybe he has just adapted his role as a TV show host a bit too much haha
I never realized before that Chris has got green eyes (because most of the times he makes the small snarky eyes) but at 0:30 he opened his eyes wide and they were fucking beautiful
Myrthe Yasmina ehhh I'm sure there's an Aussie pub band somewhere playing the saw (with a violin bow) and shovel and probably one of those instruments where we just nail a bunch of beer lids to a stick and shake it haha.
found these videos and this channel when the capsule hotel episode came up on my home page. I've now watched 3 videos and loved them all. great shit man. subscribed
well mate i think it's worth it, though sorry I can't offer you dosh as an incentive to keep at it lol. You bring us a world few of us just don't get a chance to see and I must say I envy you though it properly isn't all smooth sailing for
Your videos are really as close as I can get to an alternative Anthony Bourdain with the snark, commentary and all...and he has an entire camera crew! You should have a show.
my favorite japanese channel and one of my most favorite channels in general, there's not daily videos so they don't get boring and are cherished when they are uploaded, keep it up.
i feel like if i ever went to japan and took pictures like you have done majority of my friends would think i would have placed a Japanese mountain side to a green screen. Japan is amazingly breath taking.
I love your videos in general but this one was awesome! You really have shown me how it's done. I have a credit channel and I am planning a trip to Japan. I have earned enough frequent flyer miles and hotel nights for a free vacation. So I want to show people how I was able to to that. I want to feature some of the places I visit hence watching your videos and others. This food market is just the type of traveling I love. There's great food and there seems to be a flea market. It seems a great way to get away from the tourist traps and to be immersed in the everyday life of Japanese people. The pony was just charming. It looks like such a great place. I appreciate you doing a video like this.
Oh wow! A few years ago we visited Hachinohe in the summer just to see one of his famous summer festivals (we were trying to see as many Tohoku summer festivals as possible in one trip) and missed the morning market... We'll have to go back, apparently! Thanks for sharing!
If i'm not mistaken it is a commercial move by prefectures to get some attention, sell some goods and get a good rep with young people. A few years ago, a yellow blob mascot, while unnoficcial became a country sensation because it was so quirky. The variety tv genre benefits a lot from this, where they can use the character as a point of interest in the talk shows as well. Just some useless knowledge. Recently, Kumamoto had that earthquake and their mascot, a bear-like thing called Kumamon (kuma=bear) worked as an embassador to gather some relief help. It is an all-around capable way of making local propaganda, very interesting in a sense.
As you said Mr. Chris, stalls beside the sea, selling some fried seafood, fried chicken hahaha. I always feel there's a feeling, good feeling behind all the good scenes and nature around. Like how people call customers, Irashaimase like that. I would love to experience that myself someday. Japan, what a good place.
Thank you so much for these amazing videos! I am actually heading to Japan next week, for at least one month, and would love to collaborate if you are interested!
About a week ago I binged watched a load of your videos. A few days ago I became a patreon even though I'm a student and should probably save my money ... Last night I had a dream that Chris was in (or was even the star of) and I'm irritated because I can't remember what happened. I remember it was vivid though. It's now 3am and I'm starting to question myself. A-am I a... a *fangirl* !? Oh god, oh jeez *HELP ME*
imagine going home after a looong night out, and instead of going home hungry and eating anything you find because you are so closd to dying, u just pick up some noodles, calamari and chicken. fuck i want this
My new indie rock band will consist of only previously heavy metal shovel players who will all wear jellyfish costumes. We shall be the Ichi-tenticle or....itchy-tenticle.
Yay! Finally reached the latest video! Been watching everything from the start XD Btw I love it when you introduce us to 'secret', yet-to-be-known places like this. Please keep it up :)
Great videos! Btw I think it would be awesome to see an regular video where you speak completely in Japanese and you can include English subtitles. And you include your friends!!!!!
I love the way your videos / commentary capture the wonderment that is a British bloke trying to get his head around things that just aren't right.....
Ahh, I remember the music at the end of the video from Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony. Its too bad people missed out on that, really awesome GTA game.
Chris i love your channel :3 you became my favorite youtuber in a sec :D aside from being absolutely entertaining i learn a lot, not only about jp but about how i can fix my motivation problems. i started learning Japanese again and finished my c++/unreal engine course thx for that ;) after watching this video while eating porridge without any "good" stuff but just nuts and raisins for my diet, i hate you a litte bit :P kind regards :D
Amazing. It's going on my list of "Things to do when I one day actually make it to Japan"... Also. An actual exchange between a work colleague and I this week; Him: look at this funny photo... Me: Is... is that Natsuki? Him: ... yes! Me: Oh so you watch Abroad in Japan?! Him: Yeah of course!
