A journey on the Sunrise Express sleeper train from Okayama to Tokyo, Japan's last sleeper train. We travel in a B-type twin sleeper on the Sunrise Seto, the video also shows single sleepers & nobinobi berths. For information on train travel in Japan see www.seat61.com/Japan.htm
You can use the Sunrise Express at no extra charge with a Japan Rail Pass if you make a reservation for one of the basic nobinobi berths. If you want a bed in a private sleeper you pay the room fee, around ¥7,600 for the cheapest solo, around ¥14,000 per compartment for the cheapest 2-berth for 2 people.
It was immaculately clean and very comfortable, a great experience.

The itinerary I planned for our 7-day Japan Rail Pass trip around Japan worked really well, taking in Tokyo, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Himeji castle & Kyoto with a side trip to Nara - feel free to use it yourself! See it in pictures at www.seat61.com/bullet-train-across-japan.htm

I do love these videos . . .no annoying hipsters or millenials trying to outdo each other with exuberant and grating personality vomits: its just the actual experience.

I absolutely love the design of this train. So beautiful, and that Sunrise logo is on point. I hope it stays around next year when I'm there, I want to try this train all over Japan. Thanks for sharing.

Dear Friend: I am from the Argentine Republic and next year I will do a tour of Japan, I am a fervent admirer and fan of the railways, I will use the JR Pass for 14 days to tour the country. Could you guide me on which limited express train is the longest and most picturesque in the country. yours affectionately. Fausto Brindisi from Rosario, Argentina.

Most interesting. Do you find the fore and aft berths easier to sleep in than the across the cabin berths?

Hi Mark, are all these trains you're reporting on included in the JR pass?

Yup, all covered. Except the private compartment charge on the sleeper. But nobinobi berths would have been covered with no extra charge.

You don't show an A-type sleeper. Is there one, perhaps offering private facilities? Or an E-type, with a faster trip?

heh, I'd be paranoid to be that close to strangers with only a curtain between us.. tis another thing to be on opposite side of aisle o-o not to mention i'd probably accidentally invade someone else's space (I'm all over the map when I sleep. I can't sleep in a single bed because I'd feel so restricted when I try to sleep lol)
@yasukiwi
@yasukiwi 4 года назад
I took the same train twice last year and once was in the nobinobi open plan carriage and there is not even a curtain on the sides between each "berth". Infact some old man/lady instead of stepping straight out into the corridor crouched and stumbled over about 5 berths including mine at 2am before stepping into the corridor part. Gave me the fright of my life!

I took it up to Tokyo at the start of October last year and even though it was still before 6am it was already light. Unfortunately there was a lot of cloud cover. The best time for clear skies for views of Fujisan is actually winter but I'm not sure if it's light when passing at that time of year.

China and Japan when the bidding of high-speed rail suddenly came to a problem on the border between China and India. China voluntarily withdrew from the bidding and finally learned that Japan's high-speed rail bid three times higher than China and 50 years of 0 interest. Japan and India's media did not report . Only China Enterprises announced the tender figures, I believe the two governments willfully provoke the border issue between China and India from corruption and black money .The people are always cheated and india government control the media to hate China. This is the purpose of the Japanese and Indian governments for embezzlement. Therefore, the United States and Russia will only find China's to built train railway,China has opened up its technology to 102 countries,Japan's Shinkansen currently has only Taiwan overseas,good luck Indians . Japan's maintenance fee is the world's most expensive,and not open technology, the government manipulated the media brainwashing , Japan and Indian government never ending corruption and black money. Global as we all know, cracking down corruption is a top priority in China

Because there are still some areas not served or well connected to the super-express trains, or if you need to be somewhere quite early in the morning and even the earliest super-express train will not arrive in time, which was the case one of the times I took this train last year. Infact despite the shinkansen now going as far as Hokkaido, the travel options by train to get to Sapporo are actually worse than before, because the last Hokkaido Shinkansen leaving Tokyo is only about 6-7pm. There are no later options or early morning option that would allow you to get to Sapporo by say 8 or 9am for a meeting. So basically JR East and JR Hokkaido have given all the business they had from several sleeper trains to the airlines.

Some people prefer to travel by ship, even though they can fly. That is the feeling of people who ride sleeper trains in Japan. Of course, the number of sleeper trains is decreasing year by year.
