1:31 A friend of mine brought a stand with the pen back from Japan back when Flipnote had a leak up in popularity. This stand got much more popular during that time. According to mu friend who got it from there he had been told that it actually had the intention to serve for hasty touch games or art themed games to make the experience feel much nicer. Sadly I lost mine during a move from city to city but it was very nice using it for Flipnote Studio. 😊

This is why many old computers and other electronics are that yellow-beige color; they were white or grey originally. The process can be reversed in a method called "retrobrighting" which is usually putting the plastic in a container full of hydrogen peroxide and exposing it to the sun during a bright sunny day or those in the solar deprived areas such as Northern Europe, a UV lamp.

The stand looks like something that would work for people that used flipnote studio a lot, just like drawing screen tablets have stands for them too

the faceplates never took off bc people just found the ones they wanted immediately and just stuck with it, like I do.. black n3ds with the "wooden" mario plates, looks dope and is simply the best combination.

The dock was indeed something you could buy. I got one myself for about $5 from gamestop preowned. Its perfect for someone who uses their 3ds enough so that you can just drop it like you would a phone these days to charge. Kinda useful until you get a 2ds xl or 3ds xl/new 3ds lol

Re: the stand, I think it's important to know that the Japanese releases weren't limited to games only and that adults without interest in gaming could have one in Japan. That includes things like language learning software and dictionaries as well as other databases on top of cooking. For a teen using it for homework before smartphones got big a stand would make perfect sense, for example.

I know here in America, the new 3ds XL did super well. It sold at a 2:1 factor here, and it was ALWAYS sold out. I wish they made the plates removable on the new 3ds XL because it was one of my favorite consoles and I want to get it new in box at some point.

I'm not a boomer, but I absolutely love the America's test kitchen recipe game of sorts that was made for the DS. I got some of my most used recipes off of it... 😆

After moving to Japan on going on retro game hunts, I never expected to be as many weird peripherals as there are for everything 🤣

Well, technically speaking, they do make offbrand shells for switch and switch lites. I have a yellow switch lite that is now clear with black screen bezel (Looks SO much better) and an animal crossing v2 that is also clear. They also make aluminum shells for the lite, as well as a rear aluminum shell and joycon shells for the tablet switch. They have just about any color you can imagine, and if you do a bit of research, you quickly learn which ones are amazingly good quality, even come with some custom button replacements like snes colors, etc, as well as really nice hardware with screen protectors and bezel color replacements. Tell you what though, its quite stress inducing trying to peel the switch lite screen from an original shell..... Takes alot of heat and alot of patience. Ive been modding consoles since i was in high school, im almost 40 now, and, theres good money in it, as well as the cool factor of having one of a kind custom consoles. ^_^ Its really unfortunate we cant add pictures to comments, i'd love to show both of mine.

Was the New 3DS fully charged? Might be why it didn't charge if so

The stand you showed for the first one might have been more useful with the seg1 TV tuner that was released in Japan, just so you get a better angle for kids wanting a mini TV.

I'm so very lucky to have a few rare New 3DS faceplates and have a few of the consoles myself. Such a good system! Might not be worth the upgrades by itself, but the slight power boost is pretty nice for homebew stuff on it.

I'm very surprised the 3ds cover plates didn't take off When I bought my 3ds (about 2 years ago) it came with custom cover plates already on and the original boring black ones They're white with Mario motives engraved all over and they look absolutely sick Who would WANT the boring one?! I can't believe they didn't take off like crazy. They rock.

god i have so many of those faceplates. ones i imported are worth hundreds of dollars now. i’m keeping them though. aftermarket ones are coming along fairly nicely though!

That clear case must of been in the home of a smoker. Cigarette smoke usually destroys anything that air can get into.

To be fair to the eggs, it's not hard to improve upon the ergonomics of a rectangle for use with human hands.

Why is a DS stand being treated as a "weird, kooky, novel idea" like the damn thing isn't filled with stylus only or stylus reliant games that might feel awkward to play one handed or completely flat. Like dog, Kid Icarus uprising was a fucking 3DS launch title.

15:15 The Xbox 360 back in the day also had cover plates for the front. I changed up mine a few times to Assassins creed and Devil may cry 4. There where loads of different designs, butI don't think the concept really took off. Don't know anyone who actually changed their faceplates back then. Also the Nokia 3310 lol, I had a few different designs for my phone back in middle school lol.

my 3ds didn't come with one of those cradles/charging docks when i bought it, which to me says it probably released somewhere between the original launch and the new3ds model. so they probably sold it separately in case you didnt get one to begin with, or if you lost or broke yours

I have that 3DS charging cradle/dock, actually used it all the time for my XL.

There are also charging docks for the New 3DS, some colours being exclusive to Japan. I got myself a nice mint coloured one off Play Asia.

certain plastics can degrade over time if left in the packaging like that. a similar thing can happen to anime figures

That black 3DS dock? I actually have that, though it's lost at my home, along with my 3DS and it's charger, in likely different locations. It came with the 3DS I bought used long long ago

The problem with cover plates was that they were made only for regular New3DS - Most people I know just bought XL.

(9:49) 🥴 (3:53) I did some research, and found that there was another model that just had a USB-A port instead of a DSi/3DS connector. I think it was because Nintendo didn't provide USB charging cables for their handhelds, so Sanyo had to reach out to Nintendo to licence their connector. They could've just bought clone connectors like a lot of other brands, but I like that they got a licence to use the original connectors. I forgot that Sanyo used to have a whole Eneloop ecosystem around the time it first came out and before they were acquired, but I think the Mobile Booster products slowly went away when lots of other companies released their own external batteries. Edit: I didn't realise there was also a DS Lite version!

The dock was included in the box of the first 3DS, bought mine few weeks after the launch and it was in the box

I dont know exactly how much differs voltage needed in n3ds vs old 3ds, but someone in a videogame store told me there not the same circa 2015

I've been having fun looking through ds and other older gaming stuff on sendico. I recently bought my brother a cars (like the movie) ds stylus, and my sister a hello kitty x monster hunter ds case, plus a hk cartridge case and one of those stickers you put on top of the ds. (These will go with the ds lites I got them as Christmas gifts.) I have considered making a small youtube channel not talking, just showing the items (and opening if they belong to me). Not to encroach on your genre, just to share cool things with people :) Thanks for putting me on to sendico btw. It's helped me have purpose and make a little money (buying junk consoles, cleaning/fixing and then selling) while unemployed, and have really cool gifts for my family (mostly my sister who loves hello kitty). Of course I love getting the occasional thing for myself too. 😊

the stands are probably used for school since nintendo did released an educational model of the ds in japan

Around 7:50 : it was a thing in Europe as well. I remember them heavily promoting it as this modern add on to elevate one's 3DS experience. They were desperately trying to sell it, but it fell off VERY quickly, hence why you might have never heard of it before!

The 3DS dock came with original 3DS units. Well, at least it came with my Ocarina of Time 3D bundle.

I actually have a similar clear case for my New 3DS XL! I put it in storage for a few years after moving and it had the same yellowing and grime issue.

according to a store i consulted on, yes, the n3ds draws more power than the classic 3ds, so, it actually needs a different charger, maybe the reason why the batteries couldn't charge the n3ds but had no problem with the classic model, again, that was a store, they want you to sell you stuff, so, take it with a grain of salt
