England weren't rocking for that first 30. Like everyone else in attack he looked good, in defence less so. And he got about 6 scrum penalties, out of them in tandem with Dan cole. Around the park I don't know what else you want, him and Cunningham south were two hefty enforcers working in tandem. Give the guy the chance to grow into the team, he's got 5 caps, but under a different coach and a different team strategy in attack and defence.
Ewels reminds me of Callum Clark. Hes not mentally equipped with the temperament for international rugby. Hes a trash player. Arguably the worst ever England player to reach 30 caps. Can anyone tell me one of his standout moments from the last several years, not counting his red cards of course?
I’d say you’re right there, he is the first England player to get 2 red cards, I wonder if he is the 1st international to get 2 red cards in 2 successive tests?
@@mitcheljeavons2182 He hasn’t, he was Red Carded in a Sarries game against Wasps back in 2020. The week after Faz got his Red Card against Wales, it was Billy Vunipola who got a red card against Ireland. It’s been confirmed that Ewels is the first international to get a Red Card for 2 consecutive tests.
Rodd gave away a few silly penalties and generally looked off the pace. Hopefully he won't start vs ABs. George is a concern, seems to be lacking the dynamism of previous years, really hope he can bring it back. Underhill is the boy, England seemed to quickly forget what a world class player he is. Glad he's found his way back into the starting shirt. Standout performer for me. Really glad to see Marcus being given an opportunity. Sick of people saying he cant do it at international level when the only opportunities hes been given are at fullback, off the bench or with Owen Farrell calling the shots outside him in a team desperate to kick away even the most prime attacking ball. He needs a fair crack of the whip, Fin Russell played a lot of test matches before he developed from a mercurial talent into a world class 10. Harry Randall's dump tackle was the highlight of the match.
Great to see that England have lately become a team who are dangerous in attack - they have quite a lot of ways of getting at teams. Their defence is high-risk, but can often cause havoc and They look confident and motivated to me, which is not always the case with England teams. Borthwick seems to have turned it around since the last Scotland game. I think this is a pretty good period for England - let’s hope they have luck with injuries.
Ollie Lawrence just doesn’t seem to be international quality. Every time I watch him play he just seems to make too many mental errors. I honestly think Tommy Freeman should play 13. As for forwards we still don’t have enough ball carriers. Still think we need a Ted hill, Tom Pearson type. Chandler Cunningham south is better off as an impact sub at the moment. Might be controversial but still feel Ben Earl is too small to play 8.
England play Lawrence at 12 because we lack any real alternatives. He does a decent job there...but he would be brilliant at 13 if he was played there. I'd prefer Ben Earl to play at 7...but 8 is another position we lack any real options for. Earl has done amazingly to fill that position even though it's not his best. For us to really start to challenge the best teams we need to fill holes at 8 and 12 so Earl and Lawrence can play in their best positions. We also need to find a 3 with world class potential...because Dan Cole cannot play there forever...and his limitations in the loose are obvious.
The Bevan Rodd tap penalty for me, he looked like it was instinct of what he'd do for sale, and then a slight second guess if he should be backing himself doing the same for england
Underhill, Slade and Earl were the stand outs. M Smith was also very good. Still wish we had Ted Hill at 6. Cunningham south looks like a better sub back rower. For the NZ games: Baxter, George, Cole, Martin, itoje T Curry, Earl, Underhill Mitchell, M Smith Lawrence, Slade Freeman, Furbank. Feyi-Waboso Bench: Marler, Dan, Stuart, Coles, C-South, Randall, F Smith, Roebuck
I think Roebuck might start if he's comfortable at 11? Wouldn't mind Sleightholme being given a go though he'll be under pressure to defend well against ABs
Ewels coming on for Freeman - you suggested Earl in the centres in your "out there" 23 video so congrats on seeing a bit of that lol. In all seriousness it's a not a bad thing for Earl to train for, even if it is only for niche situations and giving SB a bit more matchday versatility. Don't think George was that much behind Dan but you might be right. Both Langdon and Dan look like they could be good picks together. It's just George seems like such a good "club captain" type figure for this current squad. Maybe we'll see some rotation between all three. Randall disappointing with those kicks from the base of the ruck and I wouldn't be surprised if Spencer gets on the bench ahead of him now. Randall's the type of player I'm happy to come on for 20 mins at the end of the game we're doing well in, but a whole match (if Mitchell were to get injured early on) and I'd dread what could happen.
Granted M Smith had a really good game today, but would like to see Mitchell and F Smith pair up for England. I don’t think they have been on the pitch at the same time playing yet for England .. which seems odd, especially as they have been playing together all season for Saints. F Smith needs more international game time IMO..
