This video shows the process of making the shikoro (shikoro) of a shiinomi-shaped helmet, which is made under the guidance of an armor craftsman, Mr. Nobumichi Atsuta.
Shikoro are attached to the helmet bowl to protect the back of the head and neck.
The Chinese characters for "shikoro" are also "𩊱" and "高調".
Shikoro plates are bent to fit the shape of the helmet bowl before this processing.
In this video, the shikoro plates are twisted up and the distortion is tapped to adjust them.
The process begins with the second shikoro plate called hachitsuke-no-ita, which is attached under the topmost shikoro plate overlapping the waistband of the helmet, and proceeds down to the third shikoro plate, the fourth shikoro plate, and the bottommost shikoro plate.
First, ruled lines for twisting up are made on the board with a bowl, and then the board is bent by grasping it with an arrowhead.
Since there are many distortions and the curve is not smooth just by bending with an arrowhead, we beat the board to make it smooth.
At this time, the shape is also adjusted so that it matches the board on the top row.
This process is continued to the bottom of the bottom board, only the bottom edge of the board is turned outward about 1 cm.
This completes the work.
