a squid's brain sits between its eyes, I'm pretty sure every single one of them was alive through the entire butchery process and felt every ounce of the agony that would come from it. Dear lord.

Has to be pretty sadistic to eat something alive. Not to mention pouring soy sauce on the animal that's dying to hurt it even more. I don't feel so bad for Hiroshima anymore after watching this.
@@CR-og5ho no its science my friend . I dont eat seafood in general so its not "i'd like to beliefe that". Its the nerves still makes some body parts move.
@@yayyay4835 just because you want something to be true, that doesn't make it true. You're not intelligent, you've believed that without any proof. Squid turn white when killed, more importantly watch the video again and you can see the squid moving at the end before the sauce is even poured. Animals suffer in the world because people like you are gullible.
I mean the chef knows how to kill it instantly but they chose not to kill it so they can prove that it is fresh bruh...even I love eating meet...I won't eat something that is still moving
Now they living inside them crawling through the intestine😂 if I’m going to be eating something it has to not be moving which means in my case it has to be cooked. These things can get stuck in your throat lmao the nerves still active
Input from a biologist - the squid isn't dead the moment the chef cuts the thing up. What he rips from the middle is the oral aperture, countaining the beak and mouthparts (it's a bulb-like structure than you can pull out). The brain itself resides between the eyes. Even as he cuts through the mantle, the brain is still largely intact. A squid has a comparable nervous capacity to a dog, but whether or not the squid is aware or feels pain during the process we're not entirely certain. As for the dancing part, personally i can't tell whether it's still alive at that point. One has to remember that the argument that this is all a postmortem response (as frog legs twitch when sprinkled with salt) is difficult to justify when the other tentacles move, even when not directly in contact with the sauce. It's homologous to pouring salt on a right frog leg and the left moves as well (there could be the argument that it is a collective reflex response from a secondary central nervous system governing tentacles in cephalopods, as it is theorised that cephalopods have a secondary 'brain' only for the tentacles, but this implies the animal has a still largely intact nervous system at this point - hence 'alive'). One also has to remember that even humans, entirely dependent on the head for survival, may still be alive, conscious, and somewhat responsive several minutes after decapitation. Ultimately i am not one to judge on how this is done, regardless of the status of the animal upon cutting. There's always some form of 'cruelty' over animals around the world, heck even cruelty within our own species. But i suppose 'cruelty' is subjective. I would still love to try one of these someday.
It is animal abuse and cruelty - u don’t see this in my country as it would never be legal. Again, Asians have no respect for animal or sea life and they love to laugh when they’re in agony and “ dancing” the disgusting things
fun fact: squids have the closest pain recepots to humans than any sea animal, so the squid felt evey single thing as it was being butchered alive and eaten
To those that say the squid is conscious, a squid's brain is located wrapped around it throat basically. when the chef tore off the beak, he tore the brain out with it, or at least caused enough physical damage to render it inoperable as an organ, pretty instantaneous. The squid's basically brain-dead as soon as he removes the beak. That being said, the cells in the squid's body are very much still alive hence the movement and twitching, it's just going on pure reflex now instead of any purposefully directed movement. The big shiny organ that was removed and cut up was the egg sack, everything in the body of the squid is basically reproductive organs, heart, and digestive track.
Cheers for that education. I was wondering where the brain was and what you said being the case, then none of this is cruel. You destroy any animals brain then its all over right away so anything happening after that makes no difference to the squid. I am pleased to know this.
Bro it is way too funny when at 9:17 he dips the tentacle in the soy sauce and when he pulls it out it suctions to the pot and spills it everywhere 🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀
Now imagine that happening in your esophagus. Thats why they coat it in sesame oil before eating. Cuz otherwise that can happen, and you can choke to death that way.
@@saintpepsi8602 Just because you've removed the head doesn't mean it's instantly dead, the head is still going to live for a less than a minute experiencing a bunch of crap.
@lolasdm6959 actually for humans it's only a couple seconds. For squids and stuff with a slightly lesser way of processing things, its probably only a second or two IF even that.
@@arielx31 What do you mean? Squid brains require less oxygen and thus would live longer with the residual oxygen supply. It lives under the sea in a more hypoxic environment.
@@lolasdm6959 actually they live in environments that are perfectly normal oxygenated for them. Hypoxic for us, but not for them. Understand we're not the same. Also, squids use up the MOST oxygen compared to some other sea critters. Lmao. They can also regulate their oxygen depending on their environment. But realistically they'll die within a couple minutes to an hour IN TACT. Now if you remove everything from the squid, much less so. Probably a couple seconds. If that. Not rocket science. You tried to be smart and failed. Lmao.
Thank all the fucking Gods For Japan! It is a glorious place of No-tolerance when it comes to People complaining about most things, "for example feminists" id love to visit Sometime...
It would be better if they gave the head a good wack right before or after tossing it in the bucket. So I know it's not still suffering in the bucket. I don't remember if it's squid or something else but there's a technique where you wack it between the eyes to kill it and you can see the color changing cells immediately turn off.
To all the people complaining about the squid "suffering as it's being eaten alive"...it's not. It's already dead by the time they serve it to you. It's just common science behind the "dancing" nature of the dish. The squid is dead, but still served very fresh, and therefore still has a lot of moisture in its body. Soy sauce is very salty and has a high sodium concentration. Sodium tends to draw out moisture so when you pour the very salty sauce on the moisture filled body, it starts to twitch and "dance" as the soy sauce is drawing the moisture out. Also, the color pigments in the skin can still change and pulse some time after they are dead due to just how complex their body systems are. The same thing can sometimes happen in Cajun cuisine and frog legs. Sometimes when they are preparing frog legs, the removed legs will twitch and kick when salt or something salty is put on them.
If you feel bad for the squid, this might help you feel better. It was a quick kill, it still moves only because its fresh, the biochemistry still functions. There are sources of unused energy (ATP) stored in the muscles . The salt in soy sauce activate an action potential, therefore they can still contract until the ATP is used up :)
I’m a meat eater and I understand what has to be done for me to have my meal, but man that kinda broke my heart when the squid was trying so desperately to blend into the bucket and hide from their impending doom. They’re smart creatures so he/she knew damn well what’s bouta go down. At least the dish looked amazing lmao
Legendary Gojira According to the creator of "SpongeBob," Stephen Hillenburg,Squidward is actually an octopus. ... To further confuse things, Squidwarddoesn't even have eight legs like a normal octopus. He has six because it was easier for the animators. So, he's not a squid

1:41 squid: *spends thousands and thousands of years to develop a defense mechanism so that it can escape from his fiercest predators* humans: "haha squid go brr brr"
The squid was long dead before it hit the plate. After the chef cut off the two front tentacles, which are not directly connected to the brain and thus the squid felt no pain, or wouldn't for a couple of hours until after it was cut off, he tore out the beak which includes the brain. It was dead before it knew what happened.
Jesse Raimirez Yes true and anyone who says the squid is still alive because it's tentackes are still moving. The fact is it's onky the muscles that are reacting to the sauce you put on it so it's actually dead not alive that's why japanese call it dancing squid not live squid.
Calyx Frost true. But one fact is wrong. It doesnt react to the sauce. They have no veins, or sustem to signal what is going on. Thats why, things like squid still move after they are killed. They basically dont have any system to say, IM DEAD! Stop moving around. But good job explaiming!
