I made a night of it when it was first shown live on release day. But in the hour before dawn of my father’s final morning, I put this on his big screen tv and held his hand through the show. Songs take on different meanings in different situations. I’ll never be able to thank these two enough for the comfort these songs gave me, like a couple friends helping me through a sucky inevitability.
Touching post, it made me think how music cheers me up no matter what is going on, and how it helped you through a very difficult time in your life, such a huge part of our lives ❤ We are blessed, thank you for sharing this with us.

So....a great, very close buddy of mine introduced me to Jason Isbell in 2017. Anthony played guitar and wanted to be a musician in Nashville. I’m not naturally inclined to lean into country music, but I was raised in PA mostly by my single mother. She was born and raised in GA. When I listened in 2017 with an open mind, I was blown away by Isbell’s lyrics and songwriting. I’m so grateful that Anthony recommended listening to Isbell as well as Sturgill Simpson. Unfortunately Anthony had an affinity for substances and I tried to help him out of that awful place that he just couldn’t seem to make it out of. I had been to that place before I met him and made it out only by the grace of God. He managed to string together 60 days of sobriety and the true Anthony was just barely starting to shine through. He was off to a good start. Then I found out through a friend that he had suddenly passed away alone in his house on 12/23/18. I knew instantly why he died. I was absolutely crushed that this man almost made it out and never got his chance at a better life life and playing out his dream. So, when I hear Isbell, I think of Anthony. It’s still so hard to accept but I’m so grateful that he introduced me to this incredible music. I’m sure he would have watched this performance and loved it. Rest In Peace my good buddy Anthony. Thanks again and I love you man💙🙏
So sorry for your loss. I lost my both of my brothers to substance abuse. My baby brother died in the Summer of 2017, just two weeks shy of his 42nd BD. My husband has been in prison for the past 8yrs, all non-violent crimes, due to substance abuse~ he’s coming up for parole for his 8th time in just a few weeks.. and has done every program in the system this past year, that’s related to substance use/abuse, he’s even mentoring others who just came in~ so we’re praying really hard that it has been enough to bring him home this time. I’m a recovering addict, 12yrs sober last month. We both should be in the grave, just like my brothers, my husband’s sister & also his mother, BUT GOD!! I am also a senior this year in college and will graduate in a few months with my Bachelor’s Degree in Science/Substance Abuse Counseling. My husband found this song, Cover Me Up, but performed by Morgan Wallen.. and I just broke down as soon as the chorus began. This song is incredible ethereal writer, as well as Wallen, each do an amazing job singing/performing it!! It is definitely my fav song right now🤍♥️
@@stephaniehall2041 I'm so very proud of you. My son has been clean for more than 2 years. I hope your husband comes out and you both make it and have a real life. Cover Me Up and If We Were Vampires choke me up every time.
Listening to this entire record acoustic with just Jason and Amanda is mind blowing. While no one will read this comment, I would love to see a tour where this entire album was played acoustic.
I'm supposed to be working right now I've already pulled into the parking lot of the store where I'm supposed to go in to do my project I have seven more projects to do today and I'm sitting in this car, commenting on the fantastic music I just heard... Cuz I'm too moved to get out of the car right now.
Quite possibly the only thing that could be better than Jason's songs are listening to Jason tell stories. Amazing songwriter and just as great of a storyteller.
Best show ever. Nothing but pure Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires. Saw this live and this is my 3rd time after. Love both these souls filled people. Thank you Jason Isbell.
I am speechless trying to explain the greatness of Jason Isbell. I watched this live but am watching again. Amanda is killing it!!!. I’ve never heard her play so beautifully.
Jason lays it all out with every performance but this one is extraordinary. This is as pure as it gets. Amanda's playing/vocals are the perfect accompaniment for this show.
This was at the beginning of the pandemic. I remember being stoked about the new Isbell record but at the same time starting to wonder if we were living “in the new normal.” Very weird period of history.
Despite being a complete stranger, May I yell you Steven that I want you to live your best life. Believe that total strangers love you, suffer with you and rejoice in your victories too.
I love how Jason says “I can put a record out, and let the songs breathe and do their work.” That is profoundly calming, full of contentment and peace. Thank you so much Jason and Amanda ❤
Thank you Jason and Amanda. I have spent countless hours listening to your music over the years. So proud of how far you have come as a person and musician
The more I listen the more I appreciate this album. Letting You Go is my early favorite. "Being your daddy comes natural. Roses just know how to grow" Absolutely beautiful sentiment. Thank you for putting into words what I feel as the father of 4 girls and 2 boys.
Love and Have listened non stop to reunions album but love the banter on this 😊 👏🏻 brilliant 😀 Love “letting You go💕 Congratulations 🥳 I am recommending to everyone I know👍🏻
Earlier this year I was drawn to Jason Isbell by a story about Ed King's Les Paul. I've stayed for the great music and powerful songs. Thank you. All the way from Australia.
It takes a lot of work and heart to make something this beautiful sound so effortless. This concert and this record are needed beacons in the dark. Thank you.
This is frankly a musical treat. Not only the marvelous lyrics but also the instrumental work - especially the violin work by Amanda. What Radoslav Lorkovic' is to that little red box, so is Amanda to the fiddle. This is just wonderful listening. This is better than just about anything I have heard in a long, long time.
I listened to (watched) this online before I bought the album and then listened through the album several times in the car and then came back and watched this again, What an awesome manifestation of talent in two individuals. thank you
wow wow wow...i am a newly anointed jason isbell fan...pretty fantastic to stumble on to this after i heard the "new" album and cannot stop listening. thanks for your talent and music! (you should marry that fiddle player!!)
I miss live music so much. I've watched this concert 4-5 x since May. I'm buying front row tickets for your next show in Oklahoma. Your music means so much to me.
This got me through the early days of the pandemic. And is still doing so. Thank you for making this. You don’t know what you’ve done to help us! Thank you for sharing your talent. Love you both!
Only Children sounds gorgeous. Greetings from the middle of Ireland. Tickets for 19/11/2020 in my hand so hope that the world settles down before then.
I got your new album yesterday. I love it. Great opus, like all your albums. Saw you in 2015 in Hamburg, Germany. ❤ Best concert in my life. Thanks for singing what I cannot express in words. Cover Me Up still brings me to tears. Thank you for the music.
St. Peter's Autograph made me cry in a good and bad way. God damn, Jason is in my head with those lyrics. I haven't been effected by lyrics like that since Elephant
This made my day. So grateful for your music and generosity. Both of your art strikes a nerve for me and for many. The gift of stories, harmonies, beautiful fiddlin', and lyrics that hold the joy, pain, and underbelly of being human. Thank you.
I'm blown away at Jason and Amanda's talents! While looking for other music on iTunes, I saw Jason Isbell's name and decided to check him out. I listened to Only Children and boom-hooked. I love the unique lyrical spin and soul-infused melodies. In all, Jason rises to the level of Leonard Cohen. Amanda Shire's vocals and violin are stellar! I'm not a country fan but prefer the music genre of Emmy Lou Harris and Alison Krauss or light-Bluegrass. A new favorite and sharing!
These two artists have been favs for years. This is probably my favorite video. The acoustics are great in the bowling alley and they are so relaxed. Love the new release. Thanks for the entertainment during this strange time!
I stumbled upon this today, and felt: 1. quite surprised that I hadn’t seen it…back then…back in the ol’ Corona days; & 2. Found it amusing & endearing & invoking of reflection and gratitude and uncontrollable smiles and spontaneous applause! Loved y’all before then. Loved y’all then. STILL LOVE YOU SO MUCH! 🕉 #TeamShires #ProudShitShow #JasonBlockedMeOnTwitter 😂 …but lately AtmosFEARLESS has been teaching me how to love myself so fiercely that I can truly mean it when I say “IDGAF… I’m not gonna censor myself anymore. Not even for Jason Isbell. He doesn’t have to like me as much as I like him. It’s okay. Some ppl prefer mayo, I prefer mustard. 🤷🏼♀️ #LovingYou is showing folks how to LOVE THEMSELVES AGAIN (OR FOR THE FIRST TIME)!
Love it stripped down to the two of you, better live than on the album I think. Can’t wait till it’s safe to go see live music again and you folks come up to New England. For now though shows like this are more than sufficient. Thanks!
My third time to watch y'all do this amazing performance. I miss y'all😥 Isolounging was so wonderful. I think we missed only 2 of them live. Y'all take care. ❤
@@susanssoulshines9847 irrelevant to what was commented. There was nobody there…god help us. Things said inaccurately happen, we’re human, but now they are said with bravado and arrogance. Lol man what a time to be alive
I found these two pretty recently, thanks to following the John Prine/Jason Wilber breadcrumbs. I think the songwriting and performing is stellar and more. St. Peter's Autograph is a current fascination for me. Thank you so much, Jason and Amanda, for the strength and passion of your music.
