Such a good song. As a veteran I appreciate Jason's sincerety. Saw Jason take a shot at the beginning. His drinkin got bad, and then he met Amanda. He sobered up and wrote for her a most beautiful love song. "Cover me up," live on Austin City Limits. Please give a listen to Cover me up. It'll shred your heart.

I love that song! I play it over the cover Morgan Wallen does that everybody seems to love. I never knew he had a problem with drinking, makes me appreciate the song more.

That is why people cheer so loud when he sings. I sobered up, and swore of that stuff, forever this time. His rise came after his sobriety. He has said many times, he probably wouldn't be here if he hadn't got clean.

I'm from Greenhill and went to school with Jason. Never really hangout with the guy he was somewhat quite in school. He played in the school band but I never knew he was into music that deep till years later when I heard him and was floored. Amazing music he has made. Matthew Conley who this song is about was a great dude. I guy that was real down to earth just a good all around guy. They named the little league fields after him here. We lost a great man when he was killed. RIP MATTHEW

If you were ever around him, he wasn't quiet lol. I dunno if you remember me or not, but I think you were in the same class as my brother, Jonathan King? (If you are who I'm thinking you are) Jason played trumpet with me in the band. Jason was never quiet lol. The ESPN write-up on Matthew was amazing. I never knew Matt but I knew a LOT of the people mentioned in the article. It was a tear jerker, esp when the article first came out and had a video of pictures of Matt. Unfortunately, i don't think the video works in the article any longer :(

He’s got so many good ones. When I think of his song writing ability though, I think of his song Flagship. He paints a picture with words so vividly in that song. You can see the scene in your head.

The song guts me every time. Jason Isbell is an amazing lyricist and singer with so many great songs. But there is something about this song that brings me to tears every time.

I just found your channel while listening to reactions to this song tonight. Great reaction. I grew up with them, Matthew was next door to my grandma and used to beat me at backyard basketball at like 6 years younger than me haha. I think that little girl just graduated high school, time flies. I'm curious... did you go? I hope you made it back. Peace and love.

You are in a unique position to personally feel both sides of the kneeling issue. We should all have that ability to put our feet figuratively in others' shoes. We'd be a whole lot more united with that kind of empathy.

I appreciate this reaction video. I went to the same high school (and middle school, and elementary, and kindergarten) as Jason and this Matthew guy the song is about. Everything, and I do mean everything, Jason says in this song actually happened. Everything he described is exactly how it happened, the gymnasium, etc, etc. Appreciate your service to our country as well.

This song man nearly 15 years old and it still hits. The first time I heard this song I was 2 weeks away from graduating highschool me and a buddy of mine were going to apply for the army and honestly with no courage in my words I always think back about opting out from joining because my family begged me not to thankfully my buddy is alive and kicking but man hearing songs like this chokes you up.

I hate this guy now lol. His songs have hit me right N the feels with heavy Tyson hands. Had me thinking about my old HS classmate ( nice guy) that passed on about a month ago; not military related but about death.
