For people with opinions that this tutorial is too fast. The tutorial is not too fast, it is created so that no word or time would be wasted for more than one example end explaining a subject further. When he explaines one subejct and jumps to a differrent one it is your job to pause the video, go to Google and read about it with as many examples as you like. Once you are happy with the idea, you come back to this video and watch it further. It is only ~1.5 hour long, but if you are actually trying to learn this it will take you at least 5 or 6 hours to watch it properly at least once. This tutorial is an example of a perfectly efficient tutorial where tons of information is given and tons of your own action is required. This is the best way to learn something and Derek is a genius by making these tutorials because he doesn't waist even a second of your time. Respect him and be grateful.

It's a great tutorial if you already know how to program in other languages, and are familiar with HTML and CSS. I definitely wouldn't recommend this tutorial for anyone who is new to programming, but I would recommend it to anyone who is an experienced programmer who doesn't know JavaScript.

Derek, You have changed my life. You videos EXACTLY match my learning style. I can only learn visually, and I have to understand the key concepts, and I want to learn them quick first and then go into details. That is what you do very very well. I never thought I could learn so much in life. I have self-taught most of the things, and I suddenly found a teacher that speaks my language! Between you and StackOverflow, my life is made! You might find this strange, but I watch your videos when I feel low - I watch your videos to keep my brain active - I watch them when I exercise - I watch them to relax - I watch them for entertainment. I have been truly inspired by your selfless efforts. I hope to make tutorials one day.. I don't know where else to make this request. I think you should make a series on Polymer, starting with webcomponents introduction. There is a real gap. I know you are busy and perhaps not have the time to read this comment, as it is likely one of the thousands. But, if this inspires someone else reading it, as you say, it is worth it. Wishing you the best in your journey. Natraj

Hi Derek, great tutorial, nice and compact... Many thanks !!! I read through some comments and realized how you learn new languages and how you structured / created this tutorial. I have a little comment on that function getInfo(cust) ...1:23:48 It works fine in your video but will be a problem e.g. when using it by passing an other object... document.write(getInfo(cust2), ""); Inside the function it's not using the object "cust" passed to the function but instead using the cust1 object outside.

How would you get the average of 10 random numbers using the concepts below? Javascript document.write("Random # (1-10) = ", Math.floor(Math.random() * 10 + 1), "");
@Poohbify
@Poohbify 7 лет назад
Topsoil Depletion Awareness Since there are 10 random numbers you want to write to the document I put this in a for loop. The accumulator adds up all the random numbers for you up iteration of the for loop. The randomNum variable temporarily stores a random number between 1 and 10, after the loop completed 10 times we're given the average. p.s. I'm on mobile so indentation is lacking. Ex. var accumulator; var iterations=10; for (var i=0; i

Hi Derek, I wanna thank you for this kind of content. As a computer science student, most of the time I dont have patience to see 30 min lectures just about basic of a language (loops, variables, functions, syntax). I'm not suggesting anyone learn from one source, it's best to have multiple diferent types. I've done a couple web videos/tutorials, and have downloaded a couple books and apps for all the languages I'm learning. What I was saying was, that most people would benefit from typing everything out. I find typing the language repeatedly is helpful for becoming more proficient at it quickly and retaining it long term. It's like learning anything, you can only learn so much from the material. You also have to actually do it, and practice it. Gmoney Mozart I can suggest the SoloLearn apps, they have it for a couple languages including JS, C++, HTML/CSS, and Python. It's not very intense, but it helps in combination with other learning material like youtube videos, codecademy, and books.

Man I don't know what I'd do without you. C++ for my school and your videos are not in-depth enough for that, but for everything else your my one-stop shop. I've used your python tutorials to get me started on web scraping and working with web APIs (and found in the progress python is my favorite language so far), used your Lua tutorial to help me write code for some games that use a lua interpreter, and here I am again using your videos to get me up an running in JS for roll20's API. I said it in another video, but while your vids require some semblance of experience in programming, they are utterly perfect when your jumping into a language and are ready to 'go' and don't want to spend 10 hours combing through intro to programming videos in that language.

Wow, thank you Derek! I've been learning Java for about a year now, and I just recently got assigned some homework that dealt with Javascript. This video helped introduce me to a lot of the basics. I’m writing this to make a suggestion for those who want to create permanent and comprehensive learning from videos. I retired after working with Access then asp spaghetti-code. That bothered me, so I went against the grain of my workplace and started splitting out my code into functions. I never learned OOP. From there, I gradually transferred to project management and business analysis. Then, I retired. Now, I’m trying to come back into the job market, but things have changed, and I forgot a lot. Plus, I had huge knowledge gaps since I worked in a narrow area. Your videos have been a Godsend. You move quickly. I like that, but I can miss major points. That's why I watch a video a couple times and then stick it into Remnote to watch with spaced repetition. That way, I don't miss anything, and I don't forget what I learned. Thank you.

Hello, first of all thanks for this tutorial but at around the @33:00 mark you do that function to sort numbers in an ascending or descending order. I just tried in my browser the number.sort() without an argument and it sorts it no problem if I wanted to have it reversed I would just add a number.reverse() right ? So my question is : what is the benefit of using numbers.sort(function(x,y) {return x-y}); over what I said earlier ? Thanks

@MoonLightWright
@MoonLightWright 4 года назад
The variable "randNum" is storing each result in temporary memory, so when you get to "randNum -= 5", the program is looking at the result of randNum += 5 (10), and using that result for the next line of code. Same applies to "randNum /= 5" Hope that makes sense! :)
