4:03 “Tellin you he can’t with 3 barrels on him, not with 3 he can’t!!!” The increasing anger and lack of confidence in quint is what makes this scene so scary
@TravelinBand747
@TravelinBand747 2 года назад
You’re right. And the whole movie, we learn that Quint is an unflappable man of the sea who’s seen some of the worst things imaginable (as he talks about during his USS Indianapolis story) and is not at all afraid of a shark anymore. However, in that one line, you can feel it in his wavering voice: this one, this monster, is different. Kudos to the late Robert Shaw for this master class performance.

My parents took me to see it when I was 6, because my dad claimed I liked sharks. My sister said it was because the whole family was going; including my sisters who usually babysat me, and my parents didn't want to pay for a babysitter for me. I remember being terrified to state of panic, and refusing to even go on the beach for our next year's vacation. Gotta love 70's parents.

I think the most awe inspiring shot in this entire scene is seeing the shark just turn the boat and the camera pulls back to show it off. It adds to so much of the chaos unfolding. The success of a special effect is measured not by its reality but by its effectiveness. That’s why CGI looks real but feels fake and stop motion (and other practical effects like animatronics) looks fake, but feels real. Ray Harryhausen made that observation so I credit him.

(Но такой финал сразу отмели в Голливуде, жирные дядьки толстосумы) на Хороший финал больше людей в кино пойдут! You do actually at the end of the movie when quint is trying to kick away from his pov you can see then behind the shark and when the shark is coming near Hooper when he was in the cage from above the water

You can also seem them in the long shot during the climax of the mast sinking in the foreground and the shark coming forward in the background (when Brody whispers “Blow Up!”). Oddly though you only see two barrels. Barrel three appears to be lost somewhere.

Yet people say that the shark doesn't roar in this film. It clearly does at 2.15.

Its supposed to be rushing water that sounds like a roar. Artist licence.
@leedaley3404
@leedaley3404 2 года назад
@@lyndoncmp5751 I've heard that explanation and I don't buy it. The timing of the shark opening it's mouth and the sound you hear makes it pretty clear that it's a roar. Don't forget that Jaws was originally intended to be a monster movie. Spielberg, himself, said so. Artistic licence deviates from fact, by the way. And we know sharks don't roar. So, yes. It is artistic licence.

They keep referring to the shark as a "he" but in reality female sharks are much larger and such a shark would certainly be female.
@treygood4935
@treygood4935 2 месяца назад
For ordinary Great Whites, that’s correct. But Jaws is ANYTHING but ordinary, as Hooper constantly reminds us. I’ve always saw the idea being that Jaws is a genetic freak of nature shark; a Beast that operates beyond just basic instinct of normal great whites & has obtained an unquenchable taste for blood no matter the species. As one of the film’s taglines says: “It LIVES To Kill!” Plus if we go by the stats of the inferior-but-still-entertaining sequels, the 3rd film’s shark is a confirmed 35-foot Female, whereas “Bruce” here is only 25-feet. So yes, I still stand by the Original Jaws is an abnormally large Male, same as the ones from Parts 2 & 4. The 3rd is the Only female, and clearly the Largest. Just Some food for thought, no pun intended lol

Used to be used in the 1960s and 1970s. Only for very big ones. Frank Mundus used the harpoon and barrel method when he caught the 4,500 pounder in 1964 that inspired Peter Benchley to later write Jaws. He put two harpoons and barrels into it.

Here's something that bothers me: we saw them harpoon one barrel earlier to the shark. The next day, they harpooned two more barrels to it, making it three. However, right now, we only see two barrels. There's one barrel missing!
@crissrudd4554
@crissrudd4554 4 дня назад
The first barrel came loose when they were trying to rope the line out of the water and the shark appeared and startled them. Either in the midst of the chaos the rope tore off the harpoon, the harpoon somehow dislodged itself from the shark or the shark bit threw the rope when it when back under water. You can see Hooper putting the barrel away when he sees Quint smashing the radio. So no by the time they tied the barrels to the cleats there was only two attached to the shark with a third attached just before the shark starts tugging the boat.

Jaws was the first movie i ever saw in the theater. Always in my Top 3. Seen the movie 1000X easy. Just noticed an INCONSISTENCY though:) In the famous transom/barrel scene. Check this out. At 1:15, there are only 2 barrels left in the on deck Orca chute. The 3rd barrel hadn't been rigged up and shot yet, so there should have still been 3 barrels on deck. At 2:15 Quint fires another dart-barrel into Bruce. The sequence unfolds from 2:15-2:40, culminating in barrel 3 flying over the bridge and Brody and into the ocean. Then a wide shot reveals the true barrel count: 2. Just noticed this lol.
