Jay did a concert at Busch Gardens that I went to. I have a book called Rock On by a NY Dj named Norm N. Nite. I had the book with me to the show, hoping Jay would sign it for me. I spoke to his Manager and he brought me to Jay's trailer. I drank a beer with him. He signed my book. He was an awesome entertainer with a golden voice.

He is missed.

Truly amazingly sustained high notes! The only two other popular music singers I can remember being able to do that were Roy Orbison "Only the Lonely", "Crying," and Nancy Ames's "Cu cu ru cu cu Paloma." There may be others, also, but in every case these were singers with tremendous lung power and superior vocal range talents. Opera singer skill sets which emerged from the depths of in popular music and rock, redefining their respective chosen venues. Present day "music," or what passes for it, has more pretenders than true talents with genuine singing skills. Moreover, the popular music of today utilizes very little worth listening to, mostly what would have been considered to be unworthy of recording in the long years of leading up to the present.

Whatever the future holds in music, the option to choose to listen to great sounds will be preserved, and be available for new generations.

The Drifters do a great version too. The albums by Jay & the Americans ("Sands of Time" and "Wax Museum") were covers of songs that were recorded and popular by other artists. Still Jay & the Americans were great!🤔😊👍

I first thrilled by Jay & the Americans at Madison Square Gardens in 1960s and find that Jay Black could still sound the same nearly 50 years after is an incredible performance.
