Dude!!! So good to see you again, man!!! Haven’t been so excited to see a familiar face like this in a damn long time! Hope you and your fam are doing well! Also, hope this new year brings you guys nothing but happiness and prosperity! ;)
Agreed, met him a couple years ago and he got the band to sign my Automata 1 album. Even chatted with me and my little bro for a minute. Fuckin cool dude!
One of the most dedicated and innovative of his time that’s for sure. I only wish more people could experience the brain-gasm this is delving into BTBAM.
@@matty42087 i remember back when the streamed recording constellations there was a q and a with matt. i asked how many china's he's been through. they were on the 5th song and he went through 8 chinas already
Didn't he injure himself while touring this EP? I feel like I heard a story of them having to cancel a few shows because this shit just actually destroyed his body.
@@Spiritcr1jsher How isn’t he under rated? He isn’t well known or ever talked about in the spotlight. To each their own but I think Blake is tremendously unique. He’s always so busy and creative . Typically when a drummer is constantly busy it’s more of a selfish showmanish. But with Blake it’s not, he serves the chaotic music in BTBAM perfectly. He’s mastered the polymeter, ghost notes, speed, creativity, and all the while crossing between different genres like polka, jazz, metalcore, swing, thrash, prog. Most of their albums were in his mid 20s as well. If that isn’t anything special or unique then please show me another Blake Richardson.
I saw Blake at a clinic and my drummer friend noticed that Blake leads with his left food. My friend asked Blake during the Q&A why he leads with his left food. He said he got in the habit early on because he read sheet music left to right, so in his mind, left foot first. After years of playing that way, it just stuck.
This is the ideal BTBAM track for a reaction! Blake Richardson is such a fucking beast. Even though it’s an instrumental you can still hear the vocals. Can’t wait to hear what they’ve been working on! 😂❤️💀👍🏽🙌🏽
5:57 Stank face initiating 6:05 Stank face approaching critical condition Seriously I appreciate that reaction so much this shit blew my mind back when this album came out
Blake always blows my mind. I’ve been lucky enough to have an in-person lesson with him a few years ago, and he’s just the most humble, chill, and talented dude. Nothing but love and respect for the guy. Welcome back man, always love your videos! Sending good vibes to you for 2021
Blake and Gavin Harrison are probably my two biggest influences right now. Incredibly talented, hard-working, and their ability to write such well-orchestrated parts is really inspirational. Interestingly little side note, I'm sure I recall reading somewhere that Blake leads left-foot a lot because when he was learning to play double bass, in his mind you started with the left foot because it's written left to right - not sure how true that is but it's what I've heard :)
Everyone has their opinion of the best drummers. To me Blake is still and probably always will be on the top for prog. He is just unlike anyone I have ever seen or heard. BTBAM as a whole is just so beautiful.
His creativity is just boundless. Dude’s a total genius. As a young drummer, I remember listening with a dropped jaw to The Great Misdirect in high school, and that changed me as a musician forever.
@@necropollis- it does when I’m sure those players were sloppy af. Clean precise players like Blake are usually edge. Clear headed. Cleaner playing. Even from personal experience that’s kind of obvious to me.
@@jeremyschiesser7086 sounds like you just have something against drugs lol otherwise there wouldn’t be a need to make a straight edge comment. Like being straight edge actually matters or makes someone a special individual.
@@necropollis- In case you weren't aware, the members of BTBAM are straight edge. Not sure about Blake though, tbh. I get confused because they're also all vegans but Blake is not.
Man, I’m just happy that this year started out with you putting out another video. I hope the whole family is staying safe in the current dumpster fire of a situation ❤️
That sound you're talking about at 10:46, totally agree, it sounds awesome. Not a drummer myself, but the sound reminds me of something heavy falling in water at high speed -- super satisfying
Not what I was expecting to see at 11:12pm on New Years eve when I opened my subscriptions feed but its a very pleasant surprise. Happy New Year from Vancouver, Canada 🇨🇦 Be safe everyone 🤘
I love this so much. This EP gave me life so many years ago. Specular Reflection from the same PE is my favorite man. Some insane drumming going on there.
Happy new year Garrett, so glad I found your channel, you got a lot of knowledge and growing up in jazz bands in school, I’ve always appreciated your insight on all these crazy drummers.
We MISSED YOU SO MUCH Man!! Welcome Back with an AWESOME Band/Drummer Reaction choice! You have definitely made 2021 start out with a BANG :) Please KEEP making more videos!!
you are amazing man, love what you are doing here on youtube i hope you are doing well with all that stuff going on in your life and i wish you just the best, looking foward to new videos man ;D
today i just randomly thought whats my fav. old jazz drummer dude up to hearing you had to struggle so much rly made me sad.. was a rough year for everone but very glad to hear you back on track. I am enjoying your content and personalty so much thank you for being back at it.
I think what I loved about this the most was watching your intro and thinking “Man, Garrett seems stressed and down”, but then watching your mood almost immediately flip to happy and actually stoked while watching the drums. Glad to see you back dude, this video was a great start to 2021!
