Well, I have what to do. Especially since I am a poor pianist. Thank you so much Paul. Great material for me to study. It will take me some time to learn and coordinate my hands. Comin' home baby is also a great study material. Yours sincerely 😁

There is no such thing as good or bad. 😉 Think of it this way...Every pianist is in a stage of being "very familiar or unfamiliar" with a tune or style.

Excellent tutorial Paul, I love it! But in terms of theory, why is it that you can use the mentioned scales of *F minor* in Db7, as you say starting at 08:03 and 09:04? The chords share only some notes… I hope you can explain, highly appreciated!
@carlovaiasuso3540

Great lesson, teacher ! Thanks !! At 7'00 - 7'30''' are you using natural F minor scale for quartals ?
@Jazzmentl
@Jazzmentl Год назад
It's more like F Dorian or even Aeolian.

Can someone please explain why a g-flat and a d-flat both work when comping and soloing on this tune? Is it because they’re treated as passing tones, or do they belong to a certain scale that aligns with the key signature or an f-minor chord?
@Jazzmentl
@Jazzmentl Год назад
Well the first thing is that g flat and d flat can be passing notes. In fact any note can be a passing note. But I think more importantly during the tune it skips into d-flat as the temporary key of the moment. Once you're in d flat of course the root works and g flat works as part of the scale.
@stanley5394
@stanley5394 Год назад
@@Jazzmentl Thanks. When you started demonstrating chordal patterns for soloing, you hadn’t yet addressed the d-flat chord in the left hand, so I wrongly assumed the chordal patterns at that point only applied to the f-minor chord. But now I see the light!
