JBL Charge 5 vs Charge 4 | Not At All What I Expected | With Sound Sample 

The Charge 5 has a more detailed sound, in my opinion - a clearer separation between low-mids and bass. While the Charge 4 may sound "fuller," it comes at the expense of clarity.

The sound of the speaker can be heard perfectly in your video. Deep bass sounds very good, especially in your video. Thank you! This is exactly what I wanted to see. Love the Boombox 2 but it's not very practical to take on a vacation involving a plane. Was looking at the Charge and Extreme models and seeing the Charge 5 has a Tweeter is pretty big for me even though it doesn't sound dramatically better in your sound test. To me the tweeter does help, the difference is pretty noticeable in "Like Whoa" and "Do You Want Some More".

I bought both. First the 4 and thought the sound was muddy. Then I got the 5. Way brighter and clearer soundstage. And the bass was not bad. I’d made my decision to return the 4. Then I updated the 5’s firmware and WOW! The 4’s sound is embarrassingly bad. The 5 is louder, brighter, clearer, and the bass is deeper and much more integrated into the sound rather than living under it. It’s enjoyable! Very! Extremely!!! There is absolutely no reason to buy a 4 unless you’re stuck in the JBL Connect ecosystem.

I've gotta say, the latest JBL speakers have been really underwhelming... With the exception of the Clip 4. That thing is way overpriced, but I I still love it and use it all the time.

Got the charge 5 three weeks ago and I’m still blown away by how awesome it sounds. That thing is insane!! Also, are you from Uganda by any chance?

Better separation on the 5 with the mids and highs. highs are definatley crisper on the 5. The 4 sounds quite muddy, some would say smoother. Can't comment on the soundstage. The crispness in the uppers will change once its broken in. For what they are, they are great. I get my 5 tomorrow, for my fishing trips. I will say I like the smaller logo. I dislike huge branding. We know its JBL, now it just shouts at you. Plus small carrying buckles would have been great, for hanging up somewhere. Great review though. Maybe the 5 will grow on you. Change is a funny thing when you are attached to something else. I have looked at the Bose, Dali, Sony, B & O and a few others. This ticked most of the boxes for what I wanted it for. Its a shame they don't do better codecs for it.

I have the Charge 4 and I love the bass but now that I've listened to this video with my a top end headset, I can say that the Charge 4 is bassy as hell but the Charge 5 is alot clearer with the added extras + the much loved bass.

What version u got? I have a Flip 6 GG but I'm getting the charge 5 here only in TT and NT versions right now.. :(

Awesome video as always! I think the C5 has deeper bass, instead of upper bass like the C4, but there are people that like both. Seriously wish that JBL would add an EQ so everyone can be happy lol. Also don't really like the new design too much, the rubber feet on my GO3 have started peeling off lol, and the new design looks a bit bulky. Edit: spelling and grammar, etc.

This sample that was sent to you needs to be updated and the problem can be solved with the update. I also had the same problem, but the update that really changed and got better.

The 5 sounds better, but not we-removed-the-3.5mm-jack or I-regret-getting-the-Charge-4-last-week-for-$98 better.

Why is the charge 5 speaker vibrating when you play music in charge 4? I could clearly understand why you put them so close.

Does anyone know what kind of charger do I need to charge my JBL Charge 5 because I tried a PD charger it works fine but I testes it how many watts it takes and I saw 4.8v and 2.7A is that a 15W but the spec sheet only said 5V/2A maximum is it ok to use a PD for my Charge 5??

no real difference, the game changer for me is the lack of 3.5 jack so that I can get consistent sound with my PC and the charge 5 doesn't have it. As a result I will go with charge 4

Many thanks for the extensive A-B comparison sequences. Although the volume levels are quoted as the same, were they actually tested with a Db meter and shown to be identical? From this test, I am convinced that I made the correct decision. I started shopping for a Charge 4 after hearing a friend’s Charge 3, but in the process I found a refurb Charge 5 for the same price. No doubt in my mind the C5 is superior.

Wellington, what version the 4 running. I did a upgrade to 3.0.0 from 2.7.0 and it sounds so much better, like I noticed the difference immediately. It felt like a new speaker.

Charge 5. All the way. Sounds great. The treble is the star for the speaker. The bass I’m sure sounds great in person. The mic pics of the treble from the 5 but I’m sure the bass is just as good as the charge 4

Did you do a break-in on the 5? I know with all of the JBLs I've purchased, I run them at 60 percent for about 10 hours to loosen them up. It's made a difference with some of mine (charge 3, 4, xtreme, xtreme 2, boom box) It may be worth a try.

the USB in the back is only a charge for other devices and not able to play music on a USB?

aux input on a 5 would have been my dream scenario for these JBL's, I ended up picking up a 4.

Sounds like the 5 has really crisp and defined highs but lack a bit of punch in the low end compared to the 4. I wish they could have one with the best of both lol

my son has a JBL, (not sure which version) for uses primarily with Google Assistant as he studies. (he never travels without it) ... the Charge 5 is an improvement to me.

I have a JBL charge 4 and the JBL charge 5 just seems like you’re getting a A A same/terrible Version of the JBL charge 4 such as no 3.5 audio jack and the charging port being exposed and not protected by a dust/water cover

I noticed there are still Charge 3’s for sale as new on Amazon. Any reason to avoid them? Might their batteries be too old to rely on? Seems like a good idea, since they’re stereo as opposed to mono. Plus they have both Bluetooth and aux input.

well... Interestingly, in that particular space ambient the ch4 sounds better than the ch5. One thing people dont know is that these speakers NEED an atmosphere that give the resonance so one can appreciate some quality of sound. They do the job. Is just that people mistake them for some high-end loud speaker and but is not the case. These are for some occasional mid level ambient so people can enjoy talking to each other at their reunion.

the charge 4 actually goes as low as 60hz on the Frequency response rating while the charge 5 only goes as low as 65hz

Seems like the mids and hi's are a little clearer maybe on the 5. I would take the 4 though I think. It just seems like an all around fuller sound. Have to hear them in person.

Hey Willington, i got a great idea, since most of us are not audiophiles but audiofools ! ( including “audiophiles” ) When the audio comparison starts, first just show a “Speaker 1” and “Speaker 2” configuration. Let people decide which one is better, THEN, reveal the speakers.
