Want to stop the 3.6 Pentastar dry start-ups in your Jeep JL, JT or JK? Baxter Performance makes a spin-on oil filter adapter that is easy to install, it makes your oil filter changes easier and most importantly, it has an anti-drainback valve in it to help the oil primed in the top part of the engine.
The 3.6 Pentastar engine doesn't have an anti-drain back vale in it. So about 35 minutes after you shut the engine off, all the oil has drained back into the oil pan. Then when you start it up again, it can take up 3.5 seconds for the oil to reach everywhere it is needed. Now that probably won't cause a catastrophic failure today or tomorrow, but do that time and time again and that little bit of wear could add up and shorten the life of your engine.
The Baxter Performance Spin-On Oil Filter Adapter replaces the cartridge filter with an adapter that accepts a spin-on oil filter and best of all, the Baxter Performance adapter has a check valve in it that keeps the oil up in the top of the engine, so no more DRY STARTS!

Why can't jeep just install a anti drain back valve from factory would have saved them millions in warranty repairs on valvetrains. I love that you guys have come up with a solution to a terminal engine flaw, jeep should offer to install these at least as a factory / dealer option at time of purchase.

Most engines, regardless of oil filter location have some starvation at startup. My 1948 8n Ford tractor is a prime example, about 3-5 seconds before oil pressure builds after startup, still running strong after all these years. Best thing you can do with the 3.6 Jeep engine? Switch to 5w-30..

I recently installed this along with the Dorman updated aluminum oil filter housing. The also eliminates the 2011-2013 oil filter housing which has the problematic oil bypass valve that can come apart. My vehicle is a ‘12 Chrysler 200 Touring convertible. I no longer have the momentary grown at startup and the only thing to watch out for is some residual oil may still be present to catch with a shop cloth so it doesn’t drain way down into the V6’s valley. As a car enthusiast I don’t mind the extra step or two at an oil change because I believe it helps with longevity of the Pentastar engine.

I have almost 250k on my 3.6L. If she didn’t die yet, it will be fine. The dry start lasts about a second. There’s enough residual oil to cover a second.

This does as advertised, but first time cold starts of the day it will rattle a bit still because the oil galleys will have drained. The only way to prevent this is to use the "clear flood mode" described in your owners manual. This primes the galleys before ignition. There is no engine out there that will not leak down in the oil galleys to the sump over time.

Hold the gas pedal to the floor on the 1st start of the day to prime. Jeep won't start with pedel to the floor.

Talk is cheap, find a JK that makes the rattle noise after sitting for a few days. Install the Baxter adapter, prime it, than wait a week and shows us it works. Pretty simply experiment.

That rattling is piston slap. Not from low oil pressure from what I understand

YES IT WORKS... My gladiator got all new cams, rockers and lifters at 55k miles... When my car came back from the dealer it still had that grinding noise when I would start it... After installing this I haven't heard it since.... I think it could definitely be cheaper but it works.

Man i was all over this until I saw the guess your own oil level on the stick tip. Better sell a replacement dipstick that measures right.

Great video. Going to purchase a Baxter kit for my 2019 Promaster 2500. Kevin called me and said I needed to get a remote setup. His does not work and I forgot why. I am looking at Derale and Earls for the relocation with AN fittings which I believe will work with Baxters adapter. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

It reduces the tic time in half but not completely. I don't know if it was worth it or not. It's a nice looking piece though.

Doesn’t the 3.6 holds oil in the filter housing until you release the cap, then the oil drains back to the pan? My understanding is that you should remove the cap before draining the pan during an oil change otherwise you'll be using some old oil that is retained in the filter housing. Is this device even needed - seems to solve a problem that doesn’t exist.

So, if this thing prevents any drain-back, doesn't it make a HELL of a mess when you go to remove the now inverted, full of oil, canister filter that will be on it? If the canister filter is NOT completely full of oil when you remove it, then there is NO anti-drain back function happening. Edit: Ah, I see... I was premature. That's what the Shroeder valve is for, to apply air and blow the full filter out before you remove it. 👌

I’m guessing this helps. I like that I could use a real filter if nothing else, but there’s something about this whole process that feels sketchy… the priming, and shader valve doodad, the oil dipstick will be off… eh…

abit of a catch 22, if you have a Jeep with warranty still do you install this adapter to prevent this issue and risk voiding your warranty, I cant imagine service being too impressed with you using a different filter etc or do you wait until you warranty is over and installing it but the damage is already done? that being said we just had to trade in a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Arctic with sever cam phaser issues probably due to this issue, it only had 198,000m kms and was VERY well maintained

60% of the engine wear is from start up but using a premium 100% full synthetic motor oil like Amsoil Signature series will stop that.

Hey Baxter installed your Deal still hear the tick for a couple of seconds it may have improved that noise a bit but not almost 400 dollars worth. Seriously and I don’t expect anything or a comment but thanks for trying.

Oil pushes oil, if the rest of the system is drained then how is a dry system pushing the oil held in reserve out into the heads?? How long does it hold oil for and exactly what areas is it holding oil in?
@resolutejku
@resolutejku Месяц назад
Probably up to 24 hours max based on what I’ve read people say. The oil will definitely still drain down eventually.

Does the one that has the remote oil filter relocater for jeeps that have a supercharger on them do the same thing as the one with the oil filter on top thanks
@shopskills
@shopskills 7 месяцев назад
You said it keeps the top of the engine primed. Oil is still going to drain from the heads. Only thing that is going to hold oil up top is the oil filter. Valves and rockers are still going to start dry. Am I missing something with this product?
@HH-cu2mv

Good question
@GrewalsGarage
@GrewalsGarage 3 месяца назад
Exactly my point, but seems like the oil in the filter travels to the valves and rockers faster than the oil pump sucking it from the sump of the engine. The top of engine will still be dry no mater what and this is an expensive upgrade for only few secs? Just change the oil on time and do regular maintain or to prevent the first few secs you can always prime the engine before start.
@GrewalsGarage
@GrewalsGarage 2 месяца назад
@barrysoetorro912330psi is not high pressure to stretch anything internally but I wouldn’t do it. This is a solution to a problem that is not there. It comes down to doing regular maintenance of your rig.
@GrewalsGarage
@GrewalsGarage 2 месяца назад
@barrysoetorro9123 I think it comes down to the materials longevity. The plastic OEM is design by engineers to cut cost of course but once mine cracks which it shouldn't if your not overtightening the filters. Then I will go with the dorman aluminum design over plastic oem also change the timing cover kit from plastic to aluminum.

Dry start up is not the problem. Dodge use cheap parts. Buying this part will not help a 3.6 last longer.

Hi Mate, I have heard a similar comment, that the roller bearings in the roller rockers aren’t heat treated / hardened correctly. What’s your thoughts on this as that’s the area these engines seem to fail. Are there any after market options for the roller rockers yet???
