@@AdmiralOffRoad, old video I know, but does your spartan lockers clunk alot? Mine does, I think im going to pull it out to inspect it. I've read alot of people say it clunks alot, and some say it doesn't.
You haven't posted in awhile, but wanted to take a moment to say thank you for the videos you have done. As a XJ owner, you've been very helpful to me as I complete my own maintenance on my XJ. Thank you for all your hard work.
The easiest and safest way to pull the carrier out is wrap a ratchet strap around it and hook to the frame/number etc. Then tighten ratchet strap until she comes out. Soft strap wont gouge anything and you wont ruin your sealing surface.
Hey there I'm a new subscriber and just noticed you don't have any adventure videos with that awesome jeep. Wuts up with that? I love my xj and I have just as many pics and videos of it as I do of my kids. Really like the work you're doing but let's see that xj play too!- JohnK
It makes noise but doesn't change much in 2wd. In 4wd it makes the steering feel a bit heavier because it wants both tires turning at the same speed but nothing unmanageable
Depending on the gear ratio that you are going with, you might need a new carrier. Other than that, you would need to adjust the shims to ensure the gears are meshing properly. It takes some time to get it perfect but it's not too difficult
Hey there, thanks for the information. Have you had problems with the Spartan Locker on the Dana 30 with one piece axle?. I have a Jeep YJ , I did a one piece axle conversion, and a Spartan Locker. It's feels locked up all the time. I was told, my specs were off. What specs ?.HELP PLEASEE
I used to daily it with the rear locker and I noticed it at first but got used to it pretty quick. Really only noticed it in parking lots when making a low speed turn from a stop. Other than that, its not too bad. Haven't driven too much on the street with the front locker but so far its not noticeable
It clicks when you turn but it does not engage in 2wd. If you have locking hubs or a vaccum disconnect it won't actually click in 2wd and you won't even notice
Any time you are messing with any steering components, it's a good idea to check the alignment, especially on a vehicle that will see a lot of road miles but in this case, since we didn't actually change the length of the tie rod or any other steering components, and the alignment wasn't affected.
Ok. I have a problem I guess. I installed a Spartan Locker and a one piece Cherokee axle on my 91 Wrangler YJ. It won't ratchet like yours . It ate up my tires. I almost went back to the original 2 piece axle
I have a 97 XJ Cherokee 4 door excellent condition 70,000 miles I just bought a BDS 4 and 1/2 inch long arm lift kit with ARB lockers front and rear what tire size should I be running 31 or 33 I am regearing front and rear axle to 4:10 ratio
33s will hurt the milage a bit and be more expensive to replace but will give you more clearance offroad. I started out with 31s on my 4.5in lift and I thought they looked a little small. Personal preference but I think 33s fill up the wheel wells a little better.
@@AdmiralOffRoad okay that's exactly what I was thinking I have seen photos of four and a half inch lift and 30 ones and it just don't look right I think 33s is minimum tire size for a 4 and 1/2 inch lift on the XJ we are definitely on the same page
I’ve got a 92 Cherokee that I blew the engine up in. I’ve swapped it out for a 95. Everything is back in but I have a short somewhere that keeps blowing the alt power fuses, any ideas what could be causing this??? You have great videos!!!
Thanks! One way to check would be to pull fuses one at a time and if you pull one and it stops blowing the alt fuse, the short is most likely in that circuit
Keith Lea yes, 5 times at autozone on one and 3 times on another that I have. I’m checking all my grounds which may be it but I think it may be a bad wire as wel
Well if its not a short to ground in your alternator. I have found that in most eng swaps that now experience electrical issues are ground related or the engine came out of a different newer year and the computer didnt get swapped with the engine. First thing removr all your grounds and clean them the bolt and block surfaces. Make sure you have all the grounds that are required for your year and that they are all in good shape. If all that checks out start tracking down the power wires to your alternator. batt to alt . alt to fuse box. ignition to alt . Check to make sure your wiring at your electrical compartment are the same and wired the same . From year to year they used the same plugs but switched the wiring order around. Check with Eric the car guy on RU-vid he has a form for this stuff. Talk to your local high school or votec school's automotive school for more information most have a great collection of shop manuals. Hope this helps some
Thanks everyone for the help. After analyzing everything I reloaded that I made a mistake. I took the wire that was meant for the alternator power and tried grounding that out, then the alternator ground wire I was using as the power 🤦♂️. Silly mistake but after switching it’s amazing how you don’t blow fuses 😂!
Yes, without unlocking hubs, the axle gears will still be turning with the front wheels, even in 2 wheel drive and you will still hear the sound. If you have hubs that can unlock, the front wheels can spin without the axle gears spinning and you wouldn't get any noise
Great Video Man But I was eating lunch and When I came Back and Started watching it again you were Torquing the ring Gear Bolts well Sorry man but you Missed One I went Back in Slow - Mo and I am Positive that you Missed One Sorry But I just wanted to See if I could Get the Hair on the Back of your Neck to Stand Up for just a Second LOL. @@AdmiralOffRoad you only missed torqueing the bolt closest to the camera first time round at 20 torque , you got it the 2 other times ... dont worry you have them all in the end .
Devon also check out my 92Cherokee on my channel no other like it and iv worked on it using your video's A LOT THANKS SOOO MUCH FOR MAKING THESE VIDEO'S JEEP BROTHER ✌😝🤙
Was thinking same thing. Moved to Michigan from Florida in February. Put mine in the ditch twice first week. Tire guy explained how tire treads are so different up here. Even AT tires bought in Florida same brand bought in Michigan are different.
I have this locker in the rear of my 96 Cherokee. Live in North Dakota and play in feet of snow and its a beast. On dry pavement its loud. But the offroad capabilities are great.
I was extremely disappointed, I just did this installation today, everything went fine, till I discovered that there is no spartan sticker in the kit!! what's with that??
