This was one of the best 2x6 rocker vids I've seen. I love the extra angles you put on the ends. I will be doing this soon! Thanks for the angle iron idea. Well done!
Sounds like you could bump up your wire speed a little bit to get that welder running a bit smoother ! Gradually adjust it up some until it sounds smooth, should help out a lot
Recently picked up a XJ and your Rick Slider video is hands down the best so far. I really like the angle iron idea to make even more contact with the unibody and the tie-ins up are a good idea also
Just stumbled across your channel. I done 2x6 rockers on my xj this summer and I honestly don't know why I didnt do them sooner. I also made mine goto the end of the fender, but I just cut the fender a little long and folded it outward and welded it right to the rocker. Seeing how if I ever need to remove the fender it's likely going to be replacing it, so its not a big deal to just cut it off, other than that I did everything almost exactly how you did. Wish I found this video before I ended up doing mine cause it likely would have saved me some time scratching my head since I never really researched on how to do it I just bought some 2x6 one day and started cutting away😂
I like the idea mate and looks good but a little seam sealer in the gaps where there’s no weld more so you don’t get water sitting in between the rhs and the angle and it won’t rust out on you. Looks bad ass 👍👍
Nice angles on the ends! Really sets off the uniqueness of your Jeep. I'm concerned though that all the rust that is now behind the slider wasn't treated to keep from rusting out the floor pan.
Awesome finished product! Looking to do this to my Jeep. Any tips on things you would do different and how’s the strength as far as you standing on them? Any flex?
Freaking bad ass ....best rocker video I've seen man..its an idea that is made for these jeeps and makes it ten times better... if you read your comments , id love to know what your total length is for the rock slider itself and how long the angle iron piece you used ???because its honestly perfected.
Hey, that looks really good. Did you welded the bottom all the way from front to rear? Or you just did small solid welds every 12” or so to have some “relief” for the metal?
The 2x6 works just fine for me, but I don't see any reason that a 2x8 wouldn't work, I just don't need it that wide. If I ever feel that I need some extra width I could always weld on some round tubing.
This looks great! Curious, after all this time how has it held up? I wondered if with the new rigidity that if you smashed it into a rock would it bend the entire tube up and make it hard to open the door?
Actually I have a few times. I'd come down from a ledge and hit the rockers so hard it bent up into the door. Not enough to where it damages the door, but enough that it would scrape when I would open and close it. I would have to bend the rocker back down using a sledge hammer and a 4x4 piece of wood.
The Project Homestead that makes sense, it looks really good but I was curious if the thicker, shorter rails would take away the give that the normal rockers would have. Would you recommend a taller profile bar or is it not really a big deal?
So after seeing the final weld job, I have a feeling you didn't weld the end caps on lol. The end caps are way to nice compared to your final weld job. Which we saw you do...
No disrespect bro great video, but for the love of all that is holy, will you please learn to set up your welder correctly, and turn up your your wire speed!! With running short circuit mig with 75%Ar/25%CO2 it should sound like a bee buzzing when your welding. If your running dual shield it should sound like frying bacon.
