i have a commander limited with the hemi other than the gas mileage this is the best off road 7 passenger truck they ever made too bad they stopped making them
@haena8081 I completely agree with you. You should think about stopping by XK-Forum.com its a forum for commanders owners. There are lots of us on there modding our jeeps and taking them to the next level. Or if you ever have problems stop by we have plenty of experts hanging out were always willing to give some advice. I used the term because I started my channel for my bike videos but the term applies to off road as well. Pretty much if the the tires are pointing anywhere but down you have issues LOL Have fun and keep the rubber side down.
I'm running 33's now (lots of trimming) and made a few changes since this video. SAS is on my list for consideration to run 35's I need at least a 5' lift I think which costs about the same as a axle swap so I'm waiting to see what I will do.
Pretty typical sound for the QT2 drive with that brake torque system it had. I will say I never really got use to that popping sound either. That’s why I always took my time getting through stuff.
@lpar81 For having IFS and weighing 5k LBS it does real well. I pretty much keep up with everyone on the trails obviously I work harder at it. 33" tires are about the max tire size and even then the pinch weld needs to be folded over and the wheel wells reshaped.
In the video how much was it lifted and what size tires ? i love the look of this commander, i bought one about 6 months ago and I'm tired of the stock look.
@supperevannn @supperevannn I've changed a lot on mine at this point to much to list here really. If your going to take yours off road you need to check this forum out The Ultimate Jeep.com it has everything you'll need to know on it. Just join up start reading and ask us all the questions you have. not knowing which commander you have I really can't give to much advice. There's pretty much three models all with different options. Pretty much you need a armor lift and tires to start
@lpar81 I wish I could, only one locker made for the rear and none for the front. On a technical note If you lock it you don't have to disconnect the traction control the wheels will always be at the same speed so the computer will never see anything wrong and never kick in. For rocks the computer is pretty cool for sand and mud we usually pull the ABS fuse only way to completely shut that system down
Do you think with a 3” lift and 1.5” spacers with a pinch weld mod will be able to fit 33s? I’ve also on top of doing the pinch weld mod have ripped out the inner fender plastic liner
J R I put 33” tires on mine with basically a 2” lift. With all the modifications I still rubbed. With a 3” lift and all the mods it should work for you. Make sure the spacers are hub centric and follow the maintenance on them religiously I never had a problem mine.
J R no you need to do it. I cut mine out and welded the seem. That gave about 1\4 inch more clearance over just bending them over. I also removed the rear HVAC lines on the passenger side. Only way to avoid heavy modifications for 33” tires is a 4" lift. 3" lift will require the basic mods at least. The ultimate Jeep.com has most the info cataloged not sure how active that forum is any more though.
The 3.7L has QT1 which is pretty good but has no low range transfer case so something like this would be very difficult. Also only the limited models have QD2 which locks both axles and center. It's fine in the snow it's like putting any other vehicle in 4HI. This Jeep has QT2 which means low range.
+RuBerSideDwn it's my understanding that the Limiteds actually come standard with the Quadratrac II, which is essentially just Quadratrac I but with a low range. The Overland XK was the only one that came standard with Quadradrive. I don't know if the QD was optional on other models, however.
+Joe R the limited's came with QD2 for the first few years. Then they started putting QT2 in some of them. The only way to truly know is count the bolts on the rear differential.
