You would not believe what a lifesaver your video was. I had to change my water pump and radiator. As soon as everything was done, I started to get popping noises from the radiator. Thinking I got a bad water pump or thermostat I was about to tear apart everything again until I saw this video. No one has mentioned how crucial this is to do. Thanks again for posting this.

My daughter's car was diagnosed by the mechanic as "dead", with a cracked head, and they advised us to scrap the car (set it on fire actually). The car sat idle in a paddock for 2 months while we de-registered it and prepared to scrap it. I bought a new thermostat, I thought, "for $25, I'll try to fix it myself, if it doesn't work, then I'll get rid of it". This morning, while researching videos on how to replace the thermostat, I came across this video. I did exactly what you said and HOLEY MOLEY - I just drove the car 10 kilometres and the temp gauge never moved above half, not even 1mm. You've helped me to help my daughter recover about $8,000 in car value - I can't thank you enough for making this video.

Thank you for taking your time to share this with the community!!!! My son's 2010 Jeep Liberty had the exact issues you are having and it even threw a coolant engine code. Couldn't figure out why and was about to change the thermostat and BOOM... your video fixed all issues!!! Still dont know where the coolant is going, oil looks great and no signs of leaks but everything works great now. YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, you are the best! I fixed a leak in the heater line, spilled a bit of coolant doing it and got this exact issue. Everywhere I searched there was no mention of this burping issue. Sure enough, that's all it took to fix it. Thank you for the detailed explanation of the issue and how to fix it. Much love from Michigan.

Thank you for the video. I've struggled with the heat in my 08 Liberty for years. After back flushing the heater core with CLR I had decent heat for about 2-weeks, then after a long road trip this last weekend it suddenly stopped and the vehicle started overheating. I thought it must be the thermostat, but after watching your video and bleeding the system my heat is better than it's ever been.

our 2008 Libby's heater core went out on our Alaska trip - (at around 100,000 miles on the odometer) used some additive to stop the leak for a few thousand miles, eventually spent about $1,300 to get the heater core replaced. Water pump is being replaced now at 151,000 miles.

07 Jeep Liberty here and the bleed valve is on so tight that I thought I was loosening it when in fact I was stripping the hex-shaped hole. I am researching different ways to get the air out and If I cannot then I will have to screw out that hex-socket plug using In-And-Outs or use a Pipe Nipple extractor to get the got-dang hex-socket plug out!!! Such a pain in the butt!

@@beastlychase Thanks for the tip! Luckily I just squeezed the upper radiator hose a couple of times to make it "burp" and released the extra air. But some other RU-vid videos make unscrewing the bleeder valve look easy. Either it's pressurized or it's different on different model years...

Thanks for this cool tip, but Did you take the bleeder plug out before the system was hot and then add water? this could be dangerous and hot fluid could really launch on someone if they do this when it's hot and pressurized.
@peterh5358
@peterh5358 Год назад
I had the original problem your daughter had. I had no heat in vehicle, then overheated. I lost a lot of fluid but no evidence as to where. My problem was the radiator cap didn't seal the system. filled the system and replaced the cap and solved the problem.

My gauge is rising to about 75% and I get no heat from the heater. I was thinking it was the water pump but I'm not so sure after watching this. I have a 2009 Liberty 3.7L. Everything is fine when I first start out but after about 20 minutes of driving the heater stops working and my gauge jumps up. I've filled the reservoir but it seems like I'm losing coolant. However, I can't find the leak if there is one. I'm thinking I may need to do what you did and bleed it. Hopefully, that's all it is, I've spent enough money on car already.
@WatsonsWagons
@WatsonsWagons 2 года назад
So later that year this Jeep developed a heater core leak, the way it sits it can drain underneath to the outside and you may not even know it. These heater cores do not react well to radiator sealants, they will plug up and prevent coolant flow. Do you smell a sweet smell inside the vehicle after it warms up? If so it’s leaking. Try bleeding first and see what happens

@aboyandhisdog
@aboyandhisdog 4 года назад
This is a helpful video, Mike. I had a similar no heat issue in my '99 VW Passat. Where the heater hoses go through the firewall (they look just like in the video), that is the high spot and the system has to be bled from these hoses. But you have to disconnect the hoses gradually until water flows out and then reconnect. It is a mess and a pita. So my question: have you ever seen an after market bleeder valve of some kind that can be installed in the hose in this area? I'd try my local auto parts but I think I'd just get a blank stare from them. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

So are you thinking if I had that problem and I just replaced my water pump the problem would still be there? Just wondering your thoughts?
@WatsonsWagons
@WatsonsWagons 4 года назад
Jack Collins after you installed a pump you have to “burp” the system. Some say just fill the radiator and reservoir run the engine till hot and let it cool. That cooling would draw in fluid into the voids. With the engine cool pull the plug add fluid directly in there till it flows out, plug it up and run the engine. I knew my pump was good going into this problem, I’m concerned I’m losing fluid via the head gasket in small amounts and blowing out of the tail pipe. I need to check my plugs for evidence.

Interesting. My gauge is halfway but my air, heat and cold is working good. I noticed I didnt have any coolant in the reservoir and added some. Today I noticed the coolant is at a little lower level than yesterday. Do I have a leak or is the cooling system taking the coolant since I ran out earlier?

@stevende8954
@stevende8954 Год назад
Maybe the PO stripped the threads and used a sealant, in this case I would put the front wheels of the jeep on a ramp or even the curb, making the radiator cap the highest point in the cooling system and burp it there, if you want to spend a few dollars and buy a no spill coolant funnel kit, that would help

I tried to do this with my 2011 Liberty sport. When I started loosening the screw, the air caugh me off guard and shot the screw and a bunch of liquid (I don’t know if coolant or antifreeze is the right term) shot out. The bleeder screw was lost, and I had to replace it with a 3/8 NPT plug. I got the water. The jeep burped, and the temp gauge hasn’t run warm. But, I have no idea what caused that spurt when I loosened the original bleeder screw. Could you help me?
