This is one of the hallmarks of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do - The Push Shuffle Lead! Remember: weapon first! Make sure your punch begins just before the feet start to move and always practice the three point landing (weapon, front foot, back foot).

i was taught a close gap very much like that my teacher also added a front kick medium to low he called it a sliding lunge punch we can close a gap from 5ft out or close range. your way of teaching reminds me of his. your foot work drills, attacking, getting off center line with attacks. only his style mixed allot of kung fu, karate, and philipino . You are a very honorable teacher. I just want you to know that you have helped me to keep going with what i can still do and to not think about what i cannot do anymore. Thank you for these videos and i hope the holidays will bring you and yours much happiness

That first punch. Damn... the camera barely caught it. Christmas will be canceled to whoever is on the receiving end of that. Happy holidays.

Great timing (pun intended). I have been doing a lot of footwork practice based on your videos on the subject. Doing the check after using of the clock drill made me realize the Wing Chun sunken body stance has improved my initial attack (hand or foot to be quicker and more powerful). As always thanks for training tips.

Thank you Shifu. When attacked I move to the side, use the push shuffle lead, it gives me a chance to run if he stops and kick him low and then run if he doesn't. People don't like it because it wont' work as well with 16 once gloves, and it's not flashy in a prestige fight on the street. Self-Defense I can see it applications. I will practice as you suggest. :)

Sifu jason, Greetings 🙏 Thank you so much for these videos you come with. I find straight leads are more effective for countering while sparring a Boxer. On experimenal basis, i landed more clean straight hits in later rounds. But definitely it is the number one punch methodology one may get for street altercations. 🙏

Pretty crazy! You know, you brought up Roy Jones Jr. In his Tyson thing, I noticed he was very impressive in jumping in the pocket. But I didn't know this technique. But now I think he was probably doing this. Thanks from Texas.

Great stuff....I am so glad you have posted so many great short videos about the boxing and straight lead element of JKD. Really love your mention of Jack Dempsey and his influence on Lee. I would.love to know your thoughts or a video on JKD grappling vs BJJ.

Thanks for this. My suggestion for a video would be moving from boxing range into trapping/wing Chun range. Can do one or the other, just can’t link them. Merry Christmas from Australia too.

Hey Sifu 🙏 I'd very much be interested in a video focusing on kicking techniques (beginner or otherwise) if you'd be interested enough to make one. Thanks again, your videos are great as always and great at curtailing quarantine bordom 😁

Have you tried with beginning students to connect the bio mechanics of that to the superman punch or even the gazelle hook? My buddy was trying to teach me the Dempsy-style lead/jab and it definitely felt like awkward and clutsy. It didn't start to make sense in my body until we started to do do light sparring and I tried switching stances back and forth and then trying that shuffling lead on both sides and then I noticed that when i tried to get fancy with the light sparring and going into the gazelle lead hook and tried a superman, those didn't suck as much and that my body kind of connected the dots of that forward momentum.

Looks similar to Ted Wong’s method when doing the straight lead punch except he rotates the shoulders to be in line at impact. (Not a criticism! Just an observation)

Me again. I re-watch this video often. My reason for writing again is that my power side has gotten sore. I know that You and of course Bruce says it is designed for your power side attacks. Should I train as much or almost as much with my weak side? My weak side is very quick, but when hitting BOB, and can tell it slightly lacking in power (or at least that is what I feel).
@JKDandWingChun

Though the power side is gonna be better, it doesn’t hurt to learn to use either side, frankly.

Can u answer me some 2 questions about the 3 point landing? 1. If u hit with the fist before u step on the ground with the front foot u are less grounded and if u miss than punch u balance your whole body with just one foot even if it is for a split second. An experienced fighter will take the chance and bring u to the floor easily. Woundn't it make more sense if u hit the floor with the front foot at the same time when u hit your target? Because even if u miss there isn't any timewindow where your oponent can catch u offguard/offbalanced 2. Why do u step on the ground with the heel first? This is another extra moment where u are unbalanced. When u try to balance your body on one part of the foot the area under your big toe is way more stable than the heel. (just try a balance exercise on your heel and compare it with standing on your toes) It is more scientifically and practically explained here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uH-CyMkflgo.html Thank u in advance for the response and i wish all of you happy holidays and a happy life

Sorry i had a kung fu and wing chun friend who has multiple belts and all he was teaching me still got his ass literally smoked by kick boxer.. Idk what wing chun would really be useful for
