Jehovah's Witness Media Spokesman: "we don't tell people to shun anybody!"

Hi! I'm back. Back when I was "invited" by 4 #JehovahsWitness elders to a judicial committee meeting, I kinduv went into bulldog mode. (I've owned 2 English Bulldogs and basically I'm a bulldog too...tenacious, food motivated, and I love taking naps on the couch.) Perhaps after years of being bullied into unhealthy submission, I finally reached my pain threshold and I went into action. I called a couple local TV stations and the reporters graciously listened to my story. I explained to them that this is about #humanrights and I explained how this religion presents themselves to the public as the "friendly Christians who knock on your door on Saturday mornings" but behind the curtain lies the sad realities of #shunning, broken families, suicides, and HIGH CONTROL.
Basically I did the exact opposite of what a "disciplined" JW is supposed to do....crawl into a hole and beg for forgiveness for thinking critically and daring to ask logical questions, and attend months, if not years, of KH meetings so that the "rebellious one" can have the privilege of speaking with their friends and family. No!...I was not going to be dismissed without using my God given voice...MY WORDS of TRUTH.
So I also called the local newspaper. I was pleasantly surprised and honestly shocked that a local reporter was interested in my story...a story that so many of you who watch these videos can relate to. A story of fractured families, a story of shunning, and a story of exiting a CULT. The reporter interviewed me for a couple hours and did some additional interviews with other JW cult survivors. AND.....and the reporter called headquarters! Bethel! She spoke to Robert Hendriks ...media spokesman for the United States Branch of Jehovah's Witnesses.

I did not rehearse my conversation with Mr Hendriks. I honestly didn't think he'd even speak with me. I remember thinking "He has a pleasant voice".....as I was listening to him...which is probably why he is a such a good media contact for the Org. But as you will hear...he is an excellent SPIN DOCTOR. He lies multiple times in this conversation.
Here's a quick preview
1:28 (me) What does the shunning policy of JWs mean?
1:42 (Mr Hendriks) "Who are you by the way?"
then I tell him who I am....I did not lie about being "disassociated" at my non-judicial judicial meeting.
3:28 (me) "Why do people like me need to be shunned?"
then he asked me about when I got baptized as a JW.....a bunch of confusing words were used to tell me that that God uses this organization and my baptism and dedication are connected to the organization but not TO the organization.
6:20 (Mr Hendriks) "If you decide you don't want to be a Jehovah's Witness anymore, it's OK to not be a JW...that's OK."
6:32 (me) without being shunned is it OK? (to not be a JW)
6:36 (Mr Hendriks) "but that's not fair." WHAT??????????????????? What does that even mean?
Did God even shun satan? Why would "God's organization" silence "accusers" of the org...wouldn't God allow time to pass and free will to reign?
8:28 (Mr Hendriks) "What we want is for you to come back." (Hotel California?)
Then he talks about how being baptized again is like being married to two different men.
9:20 (Mr H) (re shunning) "Thats part of the way THEY believe THEY need to treat you to get you to see the seriousness of the fact that you're not one of JW anymore." This speaks volumes...basically he wants to look good to the public....distancing himself from the rank n file who obediently shun...just like they threw the rank n file under the bus for believing in 1975.
Then things get really wonky...he doesn't even realize the baptism questions changed!!!
10:30 (me) "Why are people in the public and the media told one thing (re shunning).....but the Bible book of Jude tells us to console those who have doubts."
12:00 (Mr H) "THAT'S YOUR RIGHT TO SAY YOU DON'T BELIEVE JEHOVAH IS USING THIS ORGANIZATION...THAT'S YOUR RIGHT."
12:12 (me) "But is that my right when I'm shunned?"
12:15 (Mr H) "I don't understand what you're saying." (He's playing dumb at this point IMO)
Then I bring up the topic of free choice. There's a long pause.
14:17 (Mr H) "You've renounced your FAITH in Jehovah's ORGANIZATION."
14:50 (Mr H) "The way your family treats you...that's THEIR decision." LOL...WHAT?
Then I remind him of the 2016 videos that instruct JWs how to SHUN.
15:38 (Mr H) "There's never been anything in print that tells JWs to not answer a text or a phone call..........we don't legislate that (shunning.)"
Then I basically ask him if I can let my brother know that having communication with me is his personal choice.
He kept saying that "shunning is a personal choice."
Then he talks about how I was wrong about the questions for baptism. Nope! I don't even understand how he isn't up on the "new light."

This guy can't defend anything, he is doing the WY shuffle. Everyone shuns at the KH who is announced. This guy is bobbing and weaving, he is riddled with contradictions. There is no logic behind anything this guy saying, on one hand, he acknowledges shunning and on the other hand, he says it isn't so.

At 15, is it reasonable to hold a child responsible for a decision made under false pretense? At 15, is it reasonable to tell a child that he/she can never change their mind or ask questions or doubt EVER? At 15, I wanted to be a police officer. I told everybody that was my decision. Should I have been held to that career choice? What if she was married at 15? Watchtower’s shunning policy is wrong. Period. And they know it. This brother knows it too. They are committed to control. Narcissist will never change.

You are absolutely right. No child should commit to a lifetime contract of anything. Furthermore, I was 16 when I was baptized in 1986. It's not even the same religion. So who's the apostate then? I was promised, "this generation will by no means pass away." That was drilled into my head in the 80s. Well we all know how that turned out...

I was at the convention in May in Atlanta, and David Schaefer gave the baptism talk and said that the questions were slightly changed. I immediately took my I pad out and recorded it. And yes, they leave out spirit directed, how in the world, could he not know that??????

My mom was disfellowshipped in 2012 and that was the point I decided that the org was wrong. There was no way I was going to leave my mom all alone when she wasn't supposed to speak to or associate with "worldly" people, yet be cut off from her family. When she was reinstated, she said she came back because of what she was missing out on and then went on to mention her son's and her grandkids, not the religion. To me that's manipulation at its worst.

I would never return to it, regardless of how my family make their decision. I love my family and obviously wouldn't want to lose them, but if they chose the org over me, I understand why, but it wouldn't make me return

But what if you found out your spouse had been lying to you about EVERYTHING in order to manipulate you into making that committment. I was baptised at 16 in the 70s, I had no option, no choice, did not have a clue what I was doing, did not understand the consequences, and I find out later that I had signed up to a contract I could not get out of and thus lived with the sword of Damocles all my life, that really IS manipulative. It's disgusting, I will NOT shun. So a few weeks back I sent in my dissociation letter, I will not have my good name associated with cruelty, child abuse, cover ups, and lies. This man's concern and humility is FAKE .... I did it all the time myself, he is lying, I assure you we WERE told to carry out extreme shunning and we made it a matter of pride to shun, we felt so self righteous, IT WAS OFFICIAL POLICY. Sorry to rant, this guy is making me angry, what a pompous fool.

THANK YOU for posting this!!! I grew up as a JW also, my disillusion with the organization grew and grew and grew..... and I finally left for good about 20 years ago. I truly believe that God rescued me from a very dark prison!!!, and today I constantly pray that He will remember those good people still inside the organization who love Him with ALL of their hearts but haven't yet found the courage to leave, and that He will rescue them also. I am proud of you for standing up and confronting their control and double standards (and a bunch of other words that I just can't think of at this very moment.) I pray for your journey ahead. It will NOT be easy, I'm sorry to say. Unraveling the lies that we were taught from infancy has been extremely painful (albiet freeing). It was sooooo helpful for me to talk to someone else who had left and was moving forward, not a Jehovah's Witness basher, like sooooo many people who leave become, but someone with respect and sincerity who made their choice based on conscience, and who understood the struggle. Liar! When a close relative was disfellowshiped, I was advised by the elders and thier wives that if I continue to speak to this person it would be like slapping God in the face. Three weeks later I was holding towels around this person's wrists waiting for ER. Great job Ali! That brother you spoke to is trying so hard to defend the Borg but you can hear the seeds of doubt hitting his spiritual soil. I think he may be awakening! Keep doing what you do baby girl!! In the narcissistic world they build a group of cohorts to be their flying monkeys so they can all gang up on their scapegoat. Psychology today says...They are sometimes called “Flying Monkeys” - which in the narcissism world represent the individuals that a narcissist will recruit and then use to do their bidding, typically to isolate, alienate, and harass another person. “Flying monkeys” are then, in their fashion, enablers. They not only silently allow the narcissistic individual to continually invalidate, dehumanize, criticize, undermine, and basically victimize everyone them without calling them out - they support them, advocate for them, and even rally behind them.

The pause when you mentioned that Jehovah didn't execute his chief accuser satan was amazing. I think you made him think a little. Aside from that, the amount of denial that this brother is in is cringeworthy. The dramatizations are there so we have an example to pattern our lives after. It' was extremely upsetting to hear that brother tell you that you knew better than to think that people commit suicide because of being disfellowshipped. My dad was one of them, I was almost one of them. Thx for another great vid Ali.

Everett Carter - I’m so sorry about your dad. I knew 3 people who committed suicide from getting disfellowshipped! They just couldn’t take losing their babies, spouse, home & job! It’s a very real thing, whether the JW’s want to admit it or not!!

Everett, I'm so sorry to hear that, thankful that you're ok and will thrive. I battle these thoughts every day, I'm still here and plan to stay. DF for 10 years now, abandoned by my husband, (not a witness) at a time when I was too sick to work, my kids are still in , no contact, though, every day is a challenge...

That's so amazing that he, a stranger, was able to respectfully talk to you, while your own family can't answer your phone. And I'm so tired of them saying: "we don't believe that only JWs will survive". And BTW: I have a theory. They did not corrected baptism questions in Organized book. They just instructed the elders to correct it in their copies. Maybe the confusion was their goal. So If someone tells Jehovah's Witness: "you've changed baptism questions" they can say: no we didn't. At least for some time it'll work. I don't think many people will notice that during the conventions.

I would argue that JWs in general are trained to be dishonest: - see their answer on JW.borg FAQ "do you shun former members" - it's hilarious and disgusting at the same time - ask any one of them: do you belive that only JW will survive Armageddon? - have you predicted Armageddon in 1914 it 1925 - anything weird in the Bible, like God punishing someone for other people's sins it killing children. The answers will never be straightforward.

Any loving human being would think it repulsive and abhorrent to cast out a family member and treat them like a criminal. He wanted your punishment so you got in line with their dogma and other JW's will shutter in fear if they try to escape.

Wow Ali...this guy KNOWS he is lying....by the way next time you talk with any double tongue Watchtower slave ask them if Jesus gave a simple command for his disciples: Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, why did Watchtower removed Jesus from the equation and replaced Holy Spirit with "spirit directed Organization"?

Great phonecall, dear Ali! - I appreciate your true dedication. But to be honest - this was the first elder I appreciate as well. I never had the feeling that he is getting angry or snooty. I guess and I feel that he is one of the less men being "higher" in their hierarchy which are really honest. - Thank you Ali sharing this call with us. :)

If he had been baptised at 12 years old, he still would have claimed that he knew exactly what he was doing. It's intellectual dishonesty and everyone knows it. They can't handle the truth, when it involves all the facts. Case in point, when he responded with "I disagree, I disagree with that".....and you asked him "what about that do you disagree with"....and he had a long pause and says "that you're speaking against God's organization". When they have nothing, they will always fall back on that statement, even when the facts don't support it

It's like the guy wants to see and hear all the suffering and pain the "disfellowshipped" are feeling since they left their perfect and righteous cult. He said it's not fair that you don't get shunned...that's because you must get punished for leaving their abusive organization, sick. This is what he is basically saying. The only people I know that love to see people suffer are narcissists. They actually are delighted to see their victim's pain after they have caused it. And they will do everything in their power to keep you under their control so they can continue their abuse. They cause their victims to operate in fear.

Listening to this was very uncomfortable and painful. I was a whisker from taking my own life precisely because I could not handle the isolation and to hear someone else assert that it was not the case as unloving as it is is wicked and especially if they say it in seemingly sympathetic tones using flowery"eloquent speech. He reminded me of the Pharisees who"eloquently twisted logic" to uphold wickedness. It's no wonder Jesus labeled them. Offspring of vipers. These phone staff are highly trained PR "experts who are purposely positioned to massage facts to try to keep the narrative "on piste ". He was maddening.

This is one of the the creepiest, sexist and many other psychological terms with his strangling, twisting answers that he is using here. Pretty much a typical elders creepy ways. Nice and genuine people can be brain washed. The root of the problem is ignorance that comes from a refusal to consider all the facts, or simply not being aware of all the facts because of only actively associating with other JW's. Once they're "locked in", they reason with emotion

Great chat, well done !...Love the way he was so reasonable and nice until boxed in a corner and suddenly logic goes out the window and went on ' pre-programmed auto-pilot' non-sensical answers ! I also got baptized at 15 and didn't realize it was a 'Members Club' rather than Jehovah.....oh and when very very young we were telling people 2 Million people would be saved and everybody else was gonna be destroyed !...That 'Truth' also has changed !

You told him you are not asking people to follow you and yet the JW organization demands that people follow and obey every word that comes out of the GB's mouths even if they have been proven wrong throughout history. God's word is eternal, it never changes but the JW organization's prophecies change all the time with their new light. Even when all their prophecies are false. They look down on others even after all the dates set by them never have come to pass.

Interesting how they allow you to get baptized as a minor, and then pretend that you're an adult for all theocratic matters, but if you want to get married at 15 years old, the elders are going to have a problem with that. I love how he compared you to a married adult when you decided to get baptized at 15. I was baptized at 15 as well. I did it because my parents told me I was old enough to be held accountable. I wonder where they got that idea from.

I love his but, but, but, let's not get into theology here. John the baptist's baptisms were only good till...the annointing came. Doesn't he realize that God created John the baptist in his mother's womb and set out his ministry. You nailed it but he had no rebuttal. They can't control a born again, free in Christ, redeemed believer full of grace and joy, eternally saved person. The devil must be angry you left the JW cult and uses shunning so people are afraid to leave. They create this victim mentality so they are trapped within their own minds because their families and friends will turn on them like vicious animals. So much for love never fails. They should have a convention that says Love fails if you are born again. Then you are the enemy of our organization. John 3:3 says you must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God not the kingdom hall.

Wow, its super crazy how he didnt believe that shunning causes suicide and how he kind of turned the table back to you. There are sooo many people in the organization that I have known that have committed suicide and I believe they were too burdened to come clean with things so they thought that killing themselves would be easier and that if they were dead they wouldnt have the burden of shunning and feeling worse than they already did feel. I also know ones who have ended up in mental institutions due to the heavy load of being a JW.

I do have to say I am impressed by how through most of the conversation he actually did stay calm instead of becoming super combative like most do when you ask these questions, however he contradicted himself on shunning at least a half dozen times and 3 times on one sentence! He was much more kind than most though I'll give him that and he didn't simply hang up and or go off on you but seriously! The ones wwp are in are so delusional! Had I not been born in I would NEVER have joined this religion to begin with.
