My dad became a JW in 1974 , i think because of the wave that was presenting 1975 as the Yr Jesus would return. He was not a Christian before, so i think this was the first thng he ever heard about God. My Mom was a born again Christian, so found it hard to follow this new Doctrine. She was however conned into getting Baptised, but in as many years began to refuse to go to KH. we , the children were so confused, and we all ''rebelled'' and left. My dad was so violent towards us, Mom and all the kids, but he still attended all Five meetings, would do regular pioneering, became an MS and eventually an Elder. ..... To us ''where is God in all this?'' My Mom just ''grew cold'' but none of us ever got baptised. so we never became JW. That life was so violent... i never saw God through my Dad, who was meant to be an example of God the Father... This is a sham.... thank God we were all finally delivered.

Yay!!! Great job Joe. 🤗 1. Lady Cee you are 100% correct - if someone is THAT accusatory about cheating, yet are not being sexual towards their mate, they likely are the ones CHEATING THEMSELVES!!! 2. Joe you nailed it on the elders being just as sinful as those that they are 'judging'. Of the 3 elders in my committee - one was abusive to his wife and another was an adulterer. So I had a hard time taking them seriously as they are trying to counsel me...

Thank You both.Joe You did so good.Very nice way how You presented so much material in a very short time. People go to a law school for many years and still so much imperfections coming out of different court cases.Here we are being thrown into the hands of salesman,builders,window washers,janitors.They are "well prepared" using this elders judgement most secretive book to fixed destroying life in the process. Disgusting attitude some of them have.

The first time I got disfellowshipped as a teenager, I showed repentance, was truthful and cooperated with the elders even with the specifics (super awkward). They decided to disfellowshipped me because, one of them told me, some people in the congregation knew about the affair. If they already made up their mind, what was the point of me even going. That list of “rules” elders have, is just an excuse to know way too much information that doesn’t concern for them.

@pauletteforman
@pauletteforman 6 лет назад
Even in a criminal court of law, the accused is represented by counsel/advocate/lawyer who will speak in behalf of the accused. Protect the interests and personal rights of the accused so there are no abuse of authority. Even in arbitration, there are 2 sides - the one(s) bringing the grievance, and the party who breached, with the arbitrator(s) weighing the complaint. Both sides consider mitigating circumstances and come to an agreeable consensus or settlement. Wise King Solomon weighed the evidence in what could be a civil case when two woman both claimed to be the mother of a child. He was able to discern who the real mother was through her maternal instincts when he suggested splitting the child in half [1 Kings 3: 16-28]. Point is, the Witnesses' judicial committee encompasses every aspect of a legal system except you - the offender - have no one to represent you or protect your Christian rights. You are in that room alone, and if they are going by hearsay, that's not even plausible because you and you alone are confessing your sins to a group of men who will determine your spiritual standing in the congregation. And don't let one if them have a grudge against you! You can pretty much gather that their minds are definitely made up long before you have a chance to shed a tear! They were just waiting in the wings, so to speak, for you to trip up so they can have their day. Organization..... It's pitiful!

My disfellowshipping meeting was the worst. SEVEN hours! They also asked me the most personal questions and then brought my younger sister up and asked "How would she feel if she knew". One elder also told me he had made his mind up to disfellowship me BEFORE the meeting. My card info and the reason I was disfellowshipped was also spread around my congregation and to non JW family members AND used against me in court to try to take our kids away once we left the religion for good. If you want some stories....you should definitely message me, i got stories and know a bunch of cover ups done, in my old congregation.

There is a elder at the congregation that I use to attend that actually runs after the brother and sisters, I watch him do it, one day I was sitting in the back room with my grandchild and a sister came in towards the end of the meeting and sat in the back with us she was in a lot of physical pain, as soon as the prayer was over this particular elder opened the door peaked his head in and asked if he could speak to her, she agreed soi he opens the door and right behind him was a second elder they proceeded to set up two chairs in front of her, I was embarrassed for her and pissed off because I had to rush to gather my and my grandchilds things together so that this sister could have some privacy! He was one of the reasons I stopped going him and being raised by a step dad that was always a elder now a Co of his congregation and my mother always knew everyone's business and they do judge people I have heard and seen it on several occasions! They get a thrill out of hearing people's business a bunch of Narcissist with no empathy!!!

This is so sad - I appreciate him sharing his testimony. When i was disfellowshipped at age 18, I was reinstated at the age of about 20, but most of my friends I grew up with had moved away, there were a lot of new people and I didn't know anyone. The night I was reinstated, I went to use the restroom and there were two sisters in there asking each other, "Who is that they reinstated? Amy something? I wonder who that is". I opened the stall and as I was washing my hands I said, "that's me" and we kind of laughed it off, but I didn't really like that. I was never able to bond with anyone, so needless to say I was disfellowshipped again within a year and I never went back.

I went to the elders because I committed adultery. It happened once the very next day my conscience bothered me so much I went to the elders. The DF me even though I was sorry and went voluntarily. They asked who it was what we did. I didn’t miss a meeting made me wait over a year when 12 months was up I wrote my letter they said I’d have to wait awhile longer. They literally love it when you beg. In the process of waiting one of the elders on the committee was DF and then sent to prison for child abuse which happened before he was appointed but still while he was a baptised jw. When I got back I still felt shunned and was made to feel like a leper 🥲

Joe is awesome, like a true, heartfelt, compassionate, humorous and loving Shepherd! Just over a year ago in 2017 I came across Joe Dyer-Daurio's channel and his real life experiences were riveting and heartwrenching. I had to listen several times to some of Joe's videos to absorb the full impact of the situations he faced, whether as a child growing up a JW, or getting that knock at the door regrettably and returning to watchtower, to his stories of 12 years being a JW Elder. I credit many on RU-vid for helping as there are so many now but last year after being a JW almost 25 years and reviewing Trey Bundy's reports in depth about Candace Conti and others victimized by sexual abuse from other JW's I started seriously researching as well as RU-vid searching. Joe's videos, your videos JT & Lady Cee, Amanda Allan-Blair The1Bun's video story especially on the blood issue with losing her 32-year-old JW Mom Elizabeth Van Hassel due to not getting blood, and Marcus Vaughn's stunning ex-Bethelite stories - all contributed mightily. I thank you all and love you all!!!! Best, Dave in Wisconsin via Chicago

The meeting night my appointment was announced, there was an Elder's meeting right after the closing prayer. I got put on 3 committees simultaneously that first night! I was thinking to myself- What did I get myself into??!! In 25 years of being an Elder, I was on at least 200 Judicial Committees. Yes, many nightmares still haunt me.....

Excellent vid. Informative and yet so tragic. To quote a line from an episode of *POIROT* *"NO ONE is CUT OFF FROM THE MERCY OF GOD"* (Taken at the Flood) but these elders (company men) are *NOT* GOD. They (wrongly) sit in judgement on people; not even acknowledging the verse that talks about "JUDGE NOT lest you be JUDGED" . There doesn't seem to be any mercy with those guys. And the lack of mercy they give will be the lack of mercy they will receive. 😭Poor Joe; having to play hangman at an execution of a person whose 'crime' (if there was one) nowhere near fits the punishment that's handed down.

I’ve mentioned to Joe before that by Best guy friend was DFd . After a 2.5 hour JH the lead elder (who was full of sin himself ) threw the Bible against the wall and said “we aren’t leaving here until we find something you’ve done wrong.” They DFd him on something that wasn’t a DF offense... My bff walked out of the room telling then that he saw they really just wanted him gone, so he quits! I later found out his father, who had been an elder, wrote or called Bethel, and after review they said he could be reinstated. My bff said “don’t bother, I’m done!!” It was his mistreatment & the mistreatment of other’s that were my age, including my own brother, that helped ME wake up! Thank you both for your advice and uplifting videos. Even though I’ve been out for over 30 years, I still need a little help and I pass on what I hear to friends who’ve still got family on the inside! Sending you lots of love 💕

WOW! Thank you both for this vid! I thought I was the only one with these feelings about the judicial committee. I felt like literally killing myself after they got through battering me when I was disfellowshipped. I must've been a glutton for punishment because I was disfellowshipped 2x! These men are not medically nor psychologically qualified to address emotional and mental harms associated with one's physically, mentally, and sexually abusive childhood - But they will call you CRAZY to your face anyway. Laugh at you, too. Avoid you but go out on Saturdays and Sundays to make disciples. The cruelty and hypocrisy is humongous! In fact, an elder who sat on my judicial event got disfellowshipped years later. Some were removed. Even worse, these same men will go and divulge your intimate details to their cronies and superfine elder wives instead of keeping JUDICIAL matters confidential [Micah 7:5]. It's done in confidence, so why blab it to the whole congregation? And then they add lies on top of lies of what you SUPPOSEDLY did just to make you worse than you really are! All I know is JESUS would've NEVER mistreated me the way they did, and if he was to literally slap me himself, I would love and appreciate it because he genuinely loves me and I love him. Just like he treated the woman who washed his feet with her tears and dried his feet with her hair, knowing full well what kind if woman she was. But the Pharisees knew and whispered among themselves - just like some superfine elders and elderettes do today! Whispering if Jesus was a prophet, he would know what kind of woman was washing his feet- The kind of woman the law of Moses condemned to death. Jesus blessed her. These men?! Modern-day Pharisees like to judge and punish and oppress and relish in the authority to chastise and watch weak ones break to pieces.....A crag in storm my behind! They will have their day soon. The King saw and sees and knows everything! Another point: Even mitigating circumstances are considered in the secular court system and based on whatever those circumstances are, some form of mercy is shown toward the offender! Disfellowshipping is not a form of mercy. It is a license to mistreat Jesus' followers.

I was brought before the judicial committee once. It was for being married in a Presbyterian Church, while I was a Jehovah's witness. I went to the hearing out of curiosity. I just wanted to hear what they had to say. These elders are really something. They think that they are soldiers for god. I found it so very humorous. These people are insignificant. Just slightly above nothing. They must have thought that I was going to grovel. I needed them to see how insignificant they were to me. I was very angry but kept it hidden. I didn't want them to see me upset. I think I did pretty good. Although, it wasn't easy. These Bozo's are enthralled with their own magnificence. That is their undoing. I ended up laughing at them a few times and that really rubbed them the wrong way. I went there to make them feel as foolish as I could. They said I was rebellious. I told them that I wasn't rebellious, I just didn't care. They should have a gavil like a real honest to goodness courtroom. ORDER! ORDER in the court!! What a joke. These idiots actually take themselves seriously. It's hard to believe but they do. Insignificant nobodies with delusions of grandeur. They are at the only place in the world where they can be placed on a pedestal.

These elders did have it in for me because of the way I got bethel involved due to the fact that 12 elders ( every elder in my cong.) knew that I tried to get help with my abusive husband who was a pioneer/ elder himself. I was never reinstated even after trying 3 or 4 different times. However , one elder forced me to write a letter to Brooklyn again to tell them that when I wrote that first letter I was in the wrong because I was sinning at the time. So bethel would excuse the elders they sent the circuit overseer to chew out . One committee took 18 months of observing me and I saw I still wasn’t close to getting a come back . Even though I took the first steps to do the confession, they didn’t admit I was an honest person. I got tired of waiting, tired of being in an even more isolated situation than ever with giving up my worldly friends , and was really very sad and discouraged. I stopped trying . Now that I can see everything coming out, I don’t want to go back.

Became presiding overseer in 1973. There was no publication so we just acted like the wild west. If we had a meeting with a publisher over wrong doing we often got told off by the publisher. Peace was maintained by a hug or a handshake. Then the GB was set up. All hell broke loose after that.

Great interview! I remember some of those "Alpha" Elders growing up and looking back in retrospect they themselves were doing things that they weren't supposed to be doing and creating and spreading their own doctrines on top of what the society was preaching. One Elder, in particular, I had lost all respect for when I became a young man he was someone that I became the most irritated with. First, he told me that since my Father was an elder I needed to get baptized though my own personal study had already begun to march to the path of baptism. He wouldn't let me reply to what I had to say and I had the sense that he was just trying to bully me. That Elder had two teenage daughters both of whom were baptized and neither did so at their own will he made them get baptized. One ended up pregnant and he treated her so poorly at the hall and he would carry his self around so self righteously. No one would have faulted him had he stepped down to be loving toward his pregnant teenage daughter who later became disfellowshiped. I would have had more respect to him had he stepped down, I could tell she felt alone and scarred yet he treated her as if she was some demon. The oldest daughter attempted suicide but fortunately, she survived. I know that their relationship was never the same there always seemed to be this tension between them and he seemed to not be able to just swat it away like everything else. One of my criticisms of the Society is how they have been ill-equipped they are to deal with very complicated human issues and they refuse to bring anyone in to educate and apply expert help. Suicide is certainly a big issue with JWs and if numbers were ever kept of their suicide rate it would be damning. For an organization that says they are all about love and understanding and to strive to get a better understanding of things, they commit the biggest acts of hypocrisy that I have ever seen.

Back in the day i attended a K/Hall in East, Lawton, Ok. where there was a rash of Disfellowships. It was rumored one of the older sisters had commented, "These Elders of ours can throw more friends out the back door with a spoon then all the rest of us can bring in the front with a shovel" !

I feel for you, Joe. I too am an ex-elder with 14 years service as such. And the judicial case you described of the woman who went and confessed to the elders her adultery, is from my standpoint a clear case of genuine repentance. No. 1----Somebody didn't catch her in the act; she willingly confessed to the elders; showing she wasn't trying to hide it. No. 2- her tears and her comments over the regret over what she had done, indicated heartfelt repentance. No. 3-- Nobody else in the congregation knew about it; so she wasn't a threat to the congregation. This wasn't a matter of her going around the Kingdom hall and trying to date and sleep with other brothers!! Good grief!! So private reproof would have been enough as she obviously was sorry to her God for it. Private reproof, allow her to stay in the congregation and to receive the spiritual fellowship she so badly needed, and perhaps impose some restrictions on her for a few months. That would have been the Christ-like manner in which to handle it! But this is what happens when you give power and authority to scriptural morons who follow "the tradition of men", man made rules, instead of the spirit of our King Christ Jesus! ( Matt: 15: 6)

When another group was discovered in the time of the apostles, preaching a similar message, and they reported this to Jesus, he gave an answer that might give us pause..made me think anyhow..in effect he said " those who gather with me , do not scatter " So, his disciples ought not to be distracted by the efforts of others who are spreading the message of the Gospel. Just a thought.. A former witness.

I just had a discussion with a MS about elders making judicial decisions. I told him that it is possible than Judicial committee can make a mistake to disfellowship someone even he or she does not deserve it because elders are human beings and not perfect. MS said it will never happen because Jah will not let someone be wrongfully disfellowed because that person will suffer injustice. So I told him how about the brothers and sisters who suffered in jail because they did not accept a non combatant job in the military? How about the people who got disfellowed and was shunned by their families because they have accepted a non combat job? And later we found out that the society allow non combat job in lieu of being jailed or having a combatant job? So you mean Jah will not let someone be wrongfully disfellowed but Jah will let a lot of brothers and sisters suffer because he did not clarify to the GB what is really acceptable from him from the beginning? I hope after this conversation I can still maintain my so called good standing on the congregation. lol.

You know as comical as this is as a once Jehovahs Witness I feel a tinge of sadness and that confuses me. When I left because I thought Armageddon was coming I got into everything and it messed up my life!! I got a female pregnant because I wanted to see what my children were going to look like, what about her ? I suffer from such guilt now its a shame ! I became a heroin addict because I had stared getting high, all this because I believed that the world would end in 1975, so much so I tried to talk to my friends about what I was going through and they couldnt relate other than to find it funny, they couldnt relate. See, I was raised on the Paradise Book , it was a orange hard cover book that I literally learned to read from both myself and my Brother, so I knew the Bible by heart without a book because I had to have Bible study every morning so you can get an idea of how deeply I believed. This is all so much for me as the memories are flooding back. I will be in touch again. Wow !!

You are NOT your sin. Love separates the sinner from his sin. The whole point of Holy Confession is to separate the sinner and the sin, to welcome the repentant sinner and to shun the sin. A repentant person is one who is merciful. This applies to all of us who have sinned. As we seek forgiveness so we forgive.
