He's not wrong, we went from eating just about enough for our lifestyle to each person eating for three and sitting on their arse. Really though, I'm sure he was referring to the population size so as a country less food was required decades ago.

Spoiler alert He did change, in the whole series, he made mistakes, got shout by a 21 years-old kid, surprisingly he admitted his mistakes and learn from it. Hence surprisingly this is a very good series we never thought it would be.

Nahhh its built for farming. I bet that when they designed it they knew it was shite and it actually has 60 forward gears and 60 reverse that way you don't even notice how many its lost until it's out of warranty.
I so hope Amazon fund a season two. This was a breath of fresh air and really showed the real problems with farming and the environment. I wasn't expecting much originally but this turned out to be one of the best programs I've watched in a long time. It totally got me hooked and I ended up watching the entire season in one day lol.
there's no problem with the weather, the problem is farming is still half done like in the middle age, and rely heavily on chemical, especially petrol by products. and yes, then we eat this crap. just saying, but the japanese did a study back in the 70's/80's to devellop fully autonomous, passive, pressurized dome glass house with hydroponic production. the yeild was incredible, same as the size of the crops, i'm talking tomatoes the size of pumkins all grown 100% without any added chemicals other than nutriments. this thing could have solved world hunger in a matter of a less than a decade. did you heard about it ? nope, jeez, almost as if some people had a versed interest in having less people on earth ...
@@slckb0y65 What the fuck are you on about? Literally nothing you said was in any way right. Yes, they did that experiment but the tomatoes were not pumpkin sized. The tomatoes that do get to be that big are ALWAYS mutations (Which are often bitter or rough to eat) or multiple tomatoes that grow into each other and form one, basic DNA and plant biology prevents them growing above a certain size or every fucker would be doing it if it just needs nutrients. It was also EXTREAMLY expensive to grow the crops requiring numerous production methods (Resulting in petroleum by products) to make the nutrients AND keep the dome operating.

And it was educational too, it showed "No, being a farmer isn't easy! Even with all the modern technology that exists it's still hard work because nature will just screw you over most of the time!" And "There is a reason there is a market for tractors and farming equipment that are older than you. Few can afford to buy new stuff!"
@@peterstead7025 It would work. It... Dear goodness, the old format would work _perfectly._ I can just see those three _literally doing_ Top Gear as in the olden days except instead of reviewing cars they're reviewing the yields from each other's agricultural enterprises, taking the mick out of each other's tractors, and the challenges would be absurd like trying to plow the biggest farm in the area using a knackered-out Edwardian tractor during heavy rains, and they'd be being measured against the work done by AgStig using... Well, this Lambo.
In Amazon: James went on a trip in Japan and hosted a cooking show and has no experience in cooking when he started. Richard was stranded in an island with a former Mythbusters mate Tory Belleci and they work together (and sometimes argue) to settle in the island and find ways to depart from the island. And they were taken in by the police for some questionings about what happened. Jeremy who has no experience in farming wanted to try something to do with more than 400 acres of land next to his home so tried his hands out for farming. And it was difficult in his first tries but getting used to it.
Seems like nobody noticed but I love that inside joke "Its called lamborghini R8". Looks like guys from Lambo were joking about Audi taking their engine and fitting it into Audi R8.
Watched first season. I love it. Side splittingly funny at points and a massive eye opener to the nonsense British farmers have to put up with. This program feels like it came at the right time.

I saw a comment yesterday that said "I can't believe I'm sat waiting for a show in farming" I have to add to that with "I really can't believe I'm waiting for a show with tractors" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 this is stuff of dreams 🤣🤣
@@potthethird I'm not a bot. Beep boop. The show was great though. More than just Clarkson bumbling around his farm, it's a story about the state of farming in England, and I'm guessing, a lot of first world countries. It's hard work, risky and in imminent danger.
Yeah, but good equipment can last a really long time. People are still using tractors that are decades old and still working perfectly fine. Those older tractors are usually purely mechanical, I don't know if the newer tractors will hold up so long with all the electronics. However, the electronics obviously give you a lot more capabilities.
Eh. We work 230 acres (corn, tobacco, soybeans, tomatoes, peppers, an occasional rotation/cover crop rotated in, hay, beef cattle, hogs, horses, and about 100 acres of hardwood forest) with a 1978 International 454 and a mid ‘90s 65 hp 4WD John Deere. Before the Deere we had a ‘70s 4WD 45 hp Deutz. Nice equipment is nice, but not necessary in my opinion.

I think this show is the best I have seen from Clarkson. I have binge watched the season and I can't recall ever having laughed so much in years. It was very funny and I actually learnt a lot about farming. I am a cityboy and I didn't know diddly squat about farming.
I've driven one of those brand new farmers sofas with wheels and yes, they are very comfortable and extremely easy to drive, but from what my dads tells me, the repairs on them are an absolute nightmare. My dad fixes his 1940s tractor with pretty basic tools and if there's a part he can't get (which happened once), he makes or macgyvers it. The brand new tractor that he drives at work, however, is a totally different story. It breaks down several times a month, usually because of some sensor or electronic module. For you to even figure out what's wrong with it, you either have to bring it in to the dealer, which is either a joke or a spit in the face, or call out a mechanic to your location, which is exorbitantly expensive. When the mechanic finally shows up and diagnoses the issue, the dealer then charges you for the price of 3 of my dads 1940s tractors, and then the price of one for the parts that need replacing. And you would think that these types of faults would be covered under warranty, but somehow they're not, even though the tractor costs as much as a house just outside the capital. In this case they didn't used to make them better in the old days, but they definitely used to fuck you in the ass for buying one less.
I have a little TE20 that still gets used occasionally even though it's nearly 80 years old. It's slightly better than a comparable Ford N series, and that's coming from a Ford guy.
My grandfather had 3 of them, on red diesel and 2 grey petrol. Their my father's tractors now. I don't know if the petrol ones still run. But the diesel is still in use.
@@howardtreesong4860 the worst thing for them are to not be used at all. Petrol versions is often destroyed because people stop using them since diesel tractors are much more fuel efficient. I love how the petrol tractors sounds. I used to drive one of them when I was 10-11.
Okay so what, if it works it works if it dont it dont, and how are you gonna plow a field when you own 20 of them with this information, ox cart and hay?
And one other thing, 10 tonnes, after 15 Minutes and three times up and down the field and Jeremy's farm will be below sea level. Joking aside, the compression done to the ground is a farm killer. And blowing his Lambo bubble, this is a Deutz-Fahr, German, built by the Italians at SAME and then some Lambo badges are stuck to it, after is was painted silver. Basically he bought an Alfa Romeo Arna tractor.
Hoping for a second series Jeremy..... We laughed all through it, a great tonic during this shit time we're all having!! Thank you, gang! Kaleb was terrific, so knowledgeable about all things, farming LOL 🤣
I would have been sooo disappointed if his girlfriend was: A. An appropriate age for him B. In his league looks-wise She's just another version of a Lamborghini tractor for him.
2 episodes in and I've laughed out loud many times already. I knew that if it had Clarkson it would be a phenomenal but it has exceeded expectations. Can't wait to watch this with my dad eventually.
The funny thing is, I grew up in a tiny village in north western Germany. My family had a Deutz D40 in the great barn, just for miscellaneous tasks around the estate, like pulling fallen oak trees in the forest etc - but the nearest dealership was Deutz and Lamborghini and sometimes had a few Lambos around which always got me excited.
It is a show, for entertainment. He did not actually go out and buy that machine, so I dont know what is with all the literal minded comments. it was meant to be amusing. It was chosen because it said "Lamborghini" on the side and was huge, not because it was a wise investment.
It is a Lamborghini made tractor, yes it shares the same characteristics but nevertheless, it’s a genuine Lamborghini tractor. It exists. Plus knowing Jeremy he would buy the tractor. Plus Jeremy himself said that this is a genuine show, and if you watch it is genuine, yea there’s the occasional joke but the guy is actually trying to run a farm and is taking this seriously.
About the tractors at the dealership, whilst they were not powerful I can say from experience that the one that I have been around there (the 135) is an absolutely reliable machine. Its so reliable and easy to repair in fact thats its still sought after for use.
Had been waiting for this series and it hasn't disappointed. Jeremy is his usual hilarious self and the conversations with the stonemason are a hoot! 🤣 Even had a genuine tear over the three ewes going to slaughter. LOVE IT!! 👍
I've been watching this series on AP and it is quite interesting. Top Gear/Grand Tour it isn't, but I do like how open Mr. Clarkson is with the farm in regards to his timelines, how much things cost vs how much he can make, etc. This is a pretty good window in to the business of farming.
You like the fact he went, tested out a restored tractor that did feed the country, and then bought a Lambo that has the wrong parts, is too big for his shed. Is what world is any of that good decision making for a business. Buying a tractor you can't use, with stupid gears, from a manufacturer that makes cars with bad gears. Its literally like watching 'The Idiot RU-vidr' with his friends playing FamingSim2021. "Where is all our money?" "Well, you see i spent all our yearly profits on A LAMBOURGINI tractor"
@@ulyssesdamon3408 making mistakes as a newbie farmer is part of the learning process. However, I suspect the Lambo tractor had as much to do with the entertainment value as anything else. I was simply referring to the economic side of the farming business. Jeremy Clarkson provided more of that than I have ever seen elsewhere.
@@stevecunningham6821 If he is the best example of farming economics you have seen, you need to expand your view. It's literally a running joke that he's never listening to Kaleb. Sorry, but why hire a farmer to help teach you if you refuse to listen? It's mentioned many times how if he had listened the job wouldn't be a complete mess. Once with the excuse "yeah you said it in that non understandable country accent though." Here's an idea Jezza, if you struggle with a country accent, DONT TAKE A PROJECT IN THE COUNTRY SIDE! That sounds to me like he is the only insight into farming you have. Therfor is the 'best' example for you to draw upon. Your point was that he intentionally makes mistakes for entertainment, just like he has always done. Making mistakes is fine. Making mistakes and annoying other people because you think your right in an area you have no experience is just stupid. Look at it from any other area of work, and its just stupid. Like, JC doing say flight work; "I want to start doing flying tours, better buy a Boeing 747 and then tell the pilot and route planner i know better than him." Can't decide on a price don't belittle people for capitalising on it, especially when that is literally what your known for doing to others.)
You've got the land size to warrant them. In the UK you can hardly fit them down a country lane never mind into a field entrance, many knocked down gate stoops incoming 😂
