Fantastic info. I've rebuilt a handful of cylinders but I've never seen one with the second snap ring. It's great back of the brain info for future reference.
I knew a tiny bit about hydraulic cylinders, and now I know more! Thanks. I love the "fun" videos like the drag Triumph, and really look forward to them, but of course you are busy with the work related stuff. I learn a lot from them too. I have trouble understanding how someone could complain about you not putting out more of the "fun" videos. Ridiculous and selfish on their part. Don't let the bastards grind you down! Thanks!
It's all good stuff. I enjoy you sharing the day to day things as well as the builds. I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for an Elcar update. Love that car.
Mr. Jonathan. thanks for another great video! we sure do appreciate you sharing the knowledge and expertise you have learned over your years in business. Good Stuff! very best to you and yours...walt&mrs.
Thank you very much for the tips on that cylinder, you saved some head scratching for sure, tackling my grandfathers passenger cylinder like that right now.
I like your the design with half inch hoses, it reminds me of a mobile home with the small water lines, where people have to change them to larger diameter pipe to get more water pressure.
Very good job on the video! I had to take mine apart and learn the difficult way. I did mine six months ago. I’m not sure where this video was at at that point lol.
been some time ago, when i was mechanicing for a utility contracting comp. either case or john deere used the same style on the bucket and hoe rams just a tad longer and larger ( lol )...i was actually the operator of a directional bore machine and worked the shop when no wrk for the machine. was the 1st vermeer bore machine in the states..proto type ...they've come along ways since then.
Yeah that's a bit messy rebuilding the cylinder but you pretty much have that dialed in. Experience is the best teacher. Don't worry about making videos you need to work and keep up your trucks so you can take care of your family that always comes first. another great video.
income is way more important then getting vids to us ( although i personally enjoy them your a talented man ) maintaining the trucks is an on going and endless job. keep on doing what you have to do. i'm sure your not the only one who's broken something while working on a vehicle...yep..pick me.
I don't care what you do I learn every time I watch a video. Please keep them coming. Did RU-vid ever pull their head out of their you know what? I know they had demonetized some of your videos. Of course they never quit putting ads on your videos. I would be thrilled to send some dollars your way to help fund these videos and projects I'm sure most of your viewers would. I look every night to see if there's a new video I truly enjoy them.
Great video sir I wanted to ask you if you had any knowledge on the dynamic self loader hydraulic cylinders and how the snap rings come out and how do they come apart? Thank you. Btw👍
What a goofy made hose. At least it didn't pop you in the face too. Momma told me they would be days like that.😵. JW I sure like your content. I've repacked cylinders but that was new to me. Thanks for the vids.
Im putting new seals on the stick of an old Grizzly 3pt backhoe, it has a similar design but no snap rings, just a threaded on cap that holds it all in. Strangest cylinder ive seen yet.
hi JONATHAN. IN Which PART OF NORTH CAROLINA ARE YOU LOCATED? IM IN RALEIGH AREA. IM HAVING A LITTLE PROBLEM WITH MY HYDRaulic cylinder on my flat bed tow truck. can you help me please? How I may contact you>?
Did you have to support the bed before you remove the cylinder? Or maybe park a car 1/4 way on the bed. My tilt bed cylinder just broke from the bottom bc of the rust.
I have an early 90s chevron wrecker on a 99 f350 im redoing. I saved the truck out of a salvage yard but having hydraulic issues on my wheel lift. I can lift the whole ass end up in the air and the cylinder will hold but if i raise the lift it slowly leaks down. Ive swapped the counter balance valves from the boom to the lift with no change. Im not sure if its the cylinder or in the valve bank. Im lost.. any advice?
Jonathan. Where can i find that wear pad material and do you know which type or what they call it? Im in the process of building a rollback an wow the price's are really getting hi.
Have you seen the rams they use for civil engineering and mining equipment that have the helical gears inside them? Those suckers can lift almost anything! Hydraulics is more complicated than most people realise when you get involved with it.
The first time we took a set of jerrdan cylinders to the shop they came back in 2 pieces they cut them in half we welded them back up and got it fixed I came across this video because I just rebuilt my first set of cylinders on a century 10 series they were way easier than what it looked like you’re doin
I have a old Vermeer hydraulic cylinder it look a lot like this one wonder if its a Jerr-dan or did vermeer make their own cylinders? if jerr-dan parts will fit
I have an old convertible with a top that doesn't go all the way closed. Both sides move the same (almost) Would I be headed in the right direction if I changed the pump? I just don't know much about hydraulics. Thanks.
Dang I've been doing Jer Dann cylinders for 20 years just like that , I've never had one come apart that easy .up here in Ohio they use salt on the roads. the aluminum gland crodes itself in the barrel !
It's a spiral snap ring ,there should be a ear you can get a screwdriver under a pry the end out. If the ring is stuck, I've drilled a 1/8" hole in from the outside into the grove and popped it out with a punch . The inner snapping I've pulled out with a hooked screwdriver, because it's to deep for snap ring pliers.
Hey Jonathan, I have a spool valve body that won't let me move the levers freely, can I soak the whole unit in diesel fuel to loosen it up or am I asking for trouble, Thanks in advance. Jim
Also sir are You still running your trucks? I have a small business in NC if you don’t mind would you mind if I could contact you and talk to you about a few things?? Thank you
No. just like a dump truck don't have them. The locks are for wheel lifts and keeps the front of the bed down. This truck don't have a wheel lift. Some of the new rollbacks have the wheel lifts independent of the bed and do not use locks. If you have been around rollbacks much you probably know that locks get bent, broke and when you are in uneven situations, they don't allow the bed to come down. After over 7 years of using this truck, I have never had an issue with not having them.
