I immediately do too. He is.... He's up there belting out Jerry's new tunes, proud as hell, singing from the heavens... and it's echoing down through the earth into our souls.
@@jenmiller7192 You are actually factually correct, but u don't have to take my word for it.All of the great artists and then some are all singing to the Earth is preparation for the great changes coming upon this planet.Sounds can raise vibration.I learned all of this after a visit from Peter Steele of TON.Most of these artists left early bc they had to, but we will see them all again - in one body or another.
Drummernut Alice In Chains was the darkest of them all. Layne’s voice knew how to drag u into a deep pit of darkness. Chris Cornell had the high notes.
I love that the song is integrated with the movie. The Cable Guy is an underrated film in my opinion. Jim Carrey's acting was superb and his character was almost the polar opposite (darker) then in his other movies from around that time such as Ace Ventura 1 and 2, Liar Liar, and The Mask.
I work as a baggage handler and I was in the belly of a plane loading luggage on an outbound flight and a guitar case came up the conveyor and I just happened to read the name on the bag tag and it said "Jerry Cantrell ". To this day I wish I ran upstairs to the jetway to watch the passengers board to see if it was really him.
Been an AIC fan since my grunge queen mom used the dirt album to lullaby me to sleep as a 90s toddler…just finished watching The Cable Guy (free on YT rn!) and as soon as the credits rolled and I heard this song I was like WAIT is this jerry??? Really grateful for the internet at this moment
Yep, in the old days we had to wait for literally minutes for the film credits to roll before we knew… unless you had once of those video players with fast forward technology… 😉
WizardOfAus yes he definitely is, dude is one of the best songwriters ever and was in an iconic extremely influential band. He’s definitely an interesting person with a crazy career and life story.
@@hostofsoulslolsure is… but they unfortunately are not at the forefront. In this era, rock music was all over television and film. Now, we have pre-designed products disguised as ‘artists’ and ‘bands’. Yes there’s plenty of real rock music, and good rock music, but you have to work to discover it.
Jerry is the whole package - musically gifted, creatively talented, has a beautiful heart and is an absolute spunk ... hes endured and overcome addiction and loss .... through music ... music unites, heals and inspires💜🎵 you lose yourself and find yourself simultaneously💖
I think jerry needs some hum... Lemme think about it ...something very nice...he's never waited for anyone before..,.says he is idkngood movie silverlinings. ... gotta hear new album focus omg ya only live once. Damn I hope Msrk gets back with my.medicine. Christ! This should be IM way to drrrtasagged out 4 me.. might be time to book. Laney
Nick Abramov he’s a good singer, but not as good as Staley, Cornell, or Vedder. Not even close. I think he shines best as an incredible guitarist and backup singer, he just doesn’t have the power.
@@giannismusic2694 he’s still a very good singer especially live where he’s always on point. Ya those guys all had bigger ranges but Jerry is still very good even if his range isn’t anything crazy, he’s done some great stuff as frontman/lead singer, I think he works just as good on leads as he does on backing
Jerry's signature sound cannot be denied. He is the king of grunge and his Rifts speak for themselves. Great composer great guitarist great song!!!!✌👍👏🎸
When I was a girl, I remember hearing Alice in Chains on the radio, and I liked the band. Now that I'm older, and seeing these videos they made 20+ years ago, I not only still like this band, but the guys were all hot! Jerry Cantrell especially, is flipping ridiculously fine here. 🔥
This movie always stuck with me since I was a kid. Many years later I got heavy into grunge. And then I found this. It’s an odd feeling. Disturbing yet comforting and nostalgic, even though I’ve never seen this music video or heard this awesome song.
Thank you for the great love ❤️ and support you show me as a special fan of mine😍, I hope you don't stop listening to the tracks, and thank you for your sincere Compliment and love my trails ❤️ God bless them.
I just watched The Cable Guy free w/ads here on RU-vid and totally didn't remember this song being in the credits. Dang, it's an excellent trip back in time. :)
Judging by the comments, there's a sudden influx of comments, which could mean people are exploring or the fanbase is rabidly dedicated. I'd like to think it's simultaneous and that warms my shrivled heart.
There were fan uploads of this song with millions of views. They got taken down recently. When people who had those version in their playlists realized they were gone, they looked for another copy and found this relatively recent Vevo version. I am one of those people.
I just watched Cable Guy for the first time. I’d never heard of it before, and it came up on Netflix with a young looking Jim Carey and I was hooked. Halfway through I googled the soundtrack, and thus, I am here.

He's just a loner He never says hello A friend to no-one He's got no place to go He don't look happy He looks through fertile eyes He ain't got nothing No-one to sympathise, alright now! He hides himself away His secrets not revealed As life just passes by He keeps himself concealed A solitary man, an enigmatic child A riddle never solved A prisoner exiled, alright now! I wonder if the loner cannot simulate A lifeless lived alone plays devil's advocate, come on now! Has he ever tried to be happy? Reach out from inside Someone on who he can depend It's getting too late to recover He won't stand a chance And into his own hell he'll descend Don't descend! (x4) No understanding of things he already knows He has to live his life and just let out and go, alright yeah! Communication's an impossibility He's his own best friend, but he's his own worst enemy The secrets of his past life deep inside his head I wonder if he'll be happy when he's dead, come on yeah! 13
Watched Cable Guy now for the first time and heard this and my initial reaction was "this sounds like a poor man's Alice in Chains". As it carried on I was like "this is definitely Alice in Chains, but I never heard this before".
Wow been listening to a lot of Cantrell's solo stuff how did i forget about this if i could i would kick my own ass for forgetting. Amazing musician if Layne was the voice of AIC Jerry for sure was the soul.
Not just the soul the brain too, he’s always been the mastermind of the band and is one of the best songwriters ever. Layne was an incredible singer no doubt but Jerry is legit one of the best songwriters ever, true genius.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7WS6C-TuMHA.html watch this, it’s jerry with Tom cruise in the movie jerry maguire which is fantastic. It’s a hilarious little scene.
@@joshblocker9653 the biggest part of AIC since he the primary songwriter since their formation. Even when Layne was around Jerry was unquestionably the most crucial member, one of the best songwriters ever.
I have a lot of respect for Jerry Cantrell and the entire Alice In Chains band. AIC has been my favourite band for over 9 years. Haven't found anyone better than them. It was great seeing them live at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto 4 or 5 years ago. Long live the last great grunge legends :D
@@stabenheimer quit lying to yourself, the band wasn’t called Layne in chains, Jerry was always the primary songwriter and most important member of the band, move on it’s been over a decade and 3 albums later. Check my brain and your decision were both major radio hits, black gives way to blue peaked a spot higher than dirt on the billboard charts and sold over 500k copies in the US and a million worldwide in just a year. The band has still been extremely successful and whenever they do their own tour for a new albums the fans show up. Layne was great and everybody wishes he was still around but the band still kicks ass and has shown that Layne wasn’t the biggest reason for their success. It’s time for you people to move on, as long as Cantrell is around writing the Music AIC will live on and continue kicking ass, nothing the annoying people like you say will change that.
@@puppetmaster8551 lead singer is no longer in the band. how hard is it to come up with a new band name? i have all of jerry cantrels solo albums. i love him as a musician. this new stuff isn't aic.
@@stabenheimer yes it his, he’s still the primary songwriter like he’s been since the beginning he now just does more vocals, if Layne was the primary songwriter then ya AIC would be dead but that’s always been Jerry and AIC will around as long as Jerry is there writing the music. The band wasn’t Layne in chains, why the fuck should Sean and especially Jerry change the band name because their bandmate couldn’t overcome his problems, they spent their lives building AIC and deserve to make a living off that name and continue doing what they love playing live shows as AIC and touring around the world. Layne’s story was a tragic one and everyone still wishes he was around but the band is still alive and well and will be as long as Jerry is around and especially as long as Jerry Sean and mike are all there.
One of my favorite but I don’t think it’s the absolute best, I’d put a few ahead of this, pig charmer/ a job to do from John wick soundtrack/settling down, probably a couple others but it’s hard to choose. Regardless this is a phenomenal song that’s still great to listen to 25yrs later, killer riff as always and good vocals with great lyrics, one of the best songwriters ever.
Jerry C. Is absolutely amazing!!!! Although this wasn’t played at the show (March 2023 Charleston SC Music Hall) I still have to share my thoughts & give recognition!!! 🔥Sums it up!
I feel I'm not the only one back here after I heard his new album Brighten is coming out in October. I can confirm Jerry Cantrell is the best guitarist in rock today
Tanto que ele, principalmente, teve o mérito de seguir com o Alice In Chains mesmo sem vocalista original, afinal as composições em sua maioria são dele, além de suas guitarra e voz serem únicas!
It's so cool that they actually used some of the cut/unused footage from The Cable Guy rather than just using clips from the movie. Kinda like an Easter egg.
He’s great on his own, the full 25 track degradation trip album is fuckin phenomenal, guy is just a genius songwriter. Everything he does is good and has been for 30+ yrs, his peak was obviously 90s AiC where he was writing huge iconic songs like rooster/would?/them bones/ down in a hole and so on but his solo work is amazing and his post Layne AIC work is really quality too, just a special musician.
What a great song and video!! Makes me wanna hypnotize me by watching it over and over on a giant screen and with really loud volume! It sends you to another state of mind!
I remember an article from bands that had made a big impact during the 1990s, and there were comparisons to the Doors and the Beatles amongst the bigger ‘grunge’ bands, but Alice In Chains and Jerry were a lot more than that, they were the Animals and CCR of my generation, bands that were infinitely better than their peers and did not get as much attention as they deserved. The music industry was starting to self sabotage during the late 1990s, it’s why we are currently in such a stagnant cesspool of a society, rock n roll was mvrdered for something more materialistic and commercial.
not to be a know-it-all but he's been a G&L guy from his teenage years. Played the same two Rampages through the first two albums has a couple ASATs (G&L telecaster) and now has his own signature model G&L Rampage and Superhawk. Honestly this video is the only time I've ever seen him with Stratocaster. He has a couple Les Pauls and a baritone Les Paul type of electric for the most part you won't see him with much else in any of his vids.
Ian Alderman yeah, that's an early/mid 80s Boogie Bodies. those were made here in Washington by this guy that made the bodies and necks out of his garage. really nice dude. Eddie Van Halen Frankenstein was a Boogie Bodies body as was the original neck. I actually recorded a cover of this song on a video posted here on RU-vid (covers black lagoon) using my Boogie Bodies. don't see too many of them
Jerry is not only only of the best guitarists of the 90's but also a great vocalist. Of course Layne was incredible but AIC wouldn't still exists without Jerry
True...some say No Layne No Chains but as much as I like Layne (as a musician) I have to say Jerry has a more relevant role somehow...No Layne No Chains < No Jerry No Chains
@@MLCrow it’s not even debatable either, Layne ruled but Jerry is AIC, the primary songwriter is always the most important band member when it comes to making music.
@@puppetmaster8551 Yeah and Jerry is even more relevant now in AIC since DuVall joined the band. I mean Jerry's role in songwriting is even bigger now if you compare AIC (Layne era) with the current AIC. DuVall's role in songwriting is very very very small. Layne had a way bigger role than DuVall talking about songwriting.
@@MLCrow ya Layne eventually by tripod became the primary lyricist on their music while Will has never even gotten close, Jerry has obviously always had a massive role in the band but it’s probably the biggest it’s been the past couple albums. Would like to see Jerry use Will a little more in the songwriting process next album but regardless I still love their shit and Jerry is the best.
@@puppetmaster8551 DuVall had a way way way huger role in Comes with the Fall (his previous band). He was the only frontman but also the main songwriter by far...and I really like the songs Pale Horse Rider, Still Got a Hold on My Heart, Beautiful Destroyer, Rockslide...just to name a few. DuVall is like a wasted talent in AIC (talking about songwriting ofc). The only "problem" I have with DuVall is that I don't find him that charismatic as a person and with not such a great stage presence (in AIC). On the other hand he seems very professional, calm, reliable, no ego flying high...the kind of person Jerry & Co. needed/need in AIC. It's just personally I would like to have a more "impressive (a little more "crazier") frontman (as a person) in AIC. Just my opinion ofc.
Jerry is underrated. Sean is underrated. Alice In Chains were underrated. Chris Cornell was underrated. All the music coming out of Washington State was underrated. The 90s were underrated. Music is underrated.
