1973 and I was in a friends living room, using the couch for a week or so, sitting on the floor by the record player lifting the needle off the record and putting it down again. I learned every song off Jerry Jeff Walker and haven’t turned back since! Still have a bunch in my repertoire! Through JJW I learned of Guy Clark, Townes, and a slew of other great Texas country heroes! As well as David Bromberg! I’ve seen him live numerous times, once in a small bar in Gunbarrel, CO outside of Boulder. I was 12 feet from him. One of the greatest nights ever! JJW is a true an American treasure who wrote/sang the soundtrack of a lot of my life. Thanks, Scamp!!

I can't count the times I've sung this song while practicing my stock and trade, driving a truck down a Texas highway. Miss you Jerry Jeff! It won't be too long until I'll see you in concert again.

Saw Jerry Jeff and the Lost Gonzo in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 72.....never heard of him as I was into Rock'n Roll.....girlfriend insisted...let's go. They were fly'n high and the show was awesome....beer flow'n like water.....one of the best times of my life up there in those hills. As far as Jerry Jeff I'm a fan for life....one of the most under rated performers singers .....Go Jerry Jeff......EDS

You're so right. Since I was maybe 11 years old I've loved his music. Seen him twice at Rodeo in Waco, once outside downtown Waco, on the Brazos. So many know what he brought. So many have never heard of him. The camaraderie I have with fellow commenters on RU-vid is like the only people that understand. He did it his way. Thank you, man. (will never be another even close)

Love this! I had the amazing and unique opportunity to see JJW twice while working at a camp his daughter went to... he came out each summer and did a private show for the kids and staff that was incredible. One year it was outside in our little amphitheater and the next year it rained, so he did in the office over the camp loudspeaker system. Because I was not on "cabin duty," I was with a group of about two dozen that sat on floor around his feet. OMG it was so cool!!!

I saw and heard Jerry Jeff in Houston, Tx. in the summer of '73 for the first time while visiting some friends. Being a long hair from NC I had never heard of him, didn't have a clue who he was. Anyway, he comes out on the stage clearly about 1/2 kicked in the ass and goes, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm Jackie Jack Walker and this here is the Lost Gonzo Band" then he starts his show off with this tune, clearly having a ball and lovin' what he's doing and proceeded to rock the joint. I was an instant fan and have been ever since. You go Jackie Jack!! Still the Outlaw, don't ever change, just keep on keepin' on!Love Ya Brother, thanks for SO many good memories

Jerry Jeff would have been 79 today-he died just last Oct.We saw him open for Willie Nelson in 1977 or '78.He grabbed a guitar,saw that it wasn't in tune,so he grabbed another one,and it wasn't in tune either,so he grabbed a third one,and it wasn't in tune either-he threw in down on the stage butt first so hard it bounced!!Alcohol might have been involved[it was with us].When Willie played we went right in front of the stage and passed joints around with Willie and his band.Glory days!!!

He's a treasure. First saw him in 1976 in Tuscaloosa. Met him after the show at Lee's Tomb, the bar, downtown. Been a part of my life for over 40 years. Tough to see him getting old.

The BEST show that I EVER saw was in 1987 here in my hometown of Charleston, WV. Jerry Jeff Walker did a solo show at The Capitol Theatre, which used to be a movie theatre. He played what seemed like 150 songs and joked and cut up with the audience between almost every song. Man I wish I had the show taped!

I saw Jerry Jeff in the 80's at Worlds of Fun amusement park in Kansas City. The rides where closing down, and all the tourists were leaving to pick up the kids, and Jerry said "now that it's just the real fans, everybody come up front and we'll start the real show". He played for another hour. I don't know how he got away with it. I remember leaving, walking through the dark amusement park [almost got lost] thinking THAT WAS AMAZING. I saw him a couple of other times too and he always had fun, and ALWAYS delivered

Hey Jerry....keep on pickin'...we first met back in December 1967 when my band (Dreamland Choo Choo) was opening up for your old band, Circus Maximus (and The Hello People). I played bass back then and you and one of your bandmates came out from backstage and sat and listened to us and you seemed to enjoy it. Thank you for that and all the great music.
