I saw him in London in the early 60s in a small dinner room. I guess he was in exile. After 2 or 3 songs he asked for requests. There were 3 or 4 and he looked right over at me, sitting close by. I yelled out, "sing You Win Again". He lit up and nodded and sang it. I think he loved that song. It was always my favorite and although the great Hank Williams wrote it that song was destined to later be sung by Jerry Lee. He truly made it his own and Hank would be proud.
One of the greats of country music. Yeah, he's known as a rock 'n roller, but it's his country and gospel that does it for me. Godspeed, Jerry Lee Lewis.
I worked as a Lamplighter in Glasgow, Scotland back in the early sixties and lit the gas lams late at night and early in the summer mornings. A buddy of mine was a baker so, we were both out and about early so, we shared 'breakfast' every morning, ' Spam on a Roll' was my Fav. We also had a love of music and would buy new 45's to share and one day I took this rendition of "You Wing Again" by Jerry Lee in and you could have knocked us both over with a feather for he'd bought NO! not Jerry Lee, but Fats Domino singing the same song, a great song sung by two of the best (after Hank Snr., LoL! sorry folks.) I always sing it when I do a gig here in Canada.
