She was perfect for it. In light of Stephen Schwartz's having supported her career for years before that (e.g., playing piano for her 2017 shows at Sub Culture, like ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JO4KhLsVxdg.html), she may have known she had a fighting chance.
She’s truly one of the greatest talents Broadway has ever seen, and I know that’s saying a lot. But she is incredible inside and out. I’m so happy my first time seeing wicked was with her as Elphaba in 2017. She is amazing! 💚
UnicornGamer 99 this is pulling from some random source from when this was the broadway cast. It also lists a Glinda standby which a movie wouldn’t have. Def not legit, unfortunately.
If u ever go get to see her live I hear it’s an incredible experience! Her portrayal of Elphie was one for the books! Her range is just insane! And her wizard and I cover, here was just the beginning to a magical journey to her Broadway debut!!
Yes her vocals are impeccable, but I also adore her acting for Elphaba! I don’t think I can watch another Wicked cast because Jessica is the one for me.
I thought i’d only love Donna Vivino’s version of Wizard and I but Jessica V’s ver is also cute and fun 😭 Donna and Jessica will forever be my most fave Elphaba 💚💚💚💚
The way she so stunningly delivers this song with such power so consistently? If there was to be a compilation of “best at x” song in the musical, to me, you can’t not have Jessica Vosk as this song. Just like I’d say no good deed is Soshana Bean’s, Jessica is it for me when it comes to this song.
brb watching this on a loop for all of eternity. RU-vid read my mind, I was going to go scour her Instagram for the video of her rehearsing this on stage at the Gershwin and it magically showed up on autoplay here!
This is my favorite version, and I know many versions. I may be biased because we mix in the exact same spots, but I’m so obsessed. Perfect. Edit: MAGICAL PHRASING
Did that really just happen? Have I actually understood? This weird quirk I've tried to suppress or hide Is a talent that could help me meet the Wizard If I make good So I'll make good When I meet the Wizard Once I prove my worth And then I meet the Wizard What I've waited for since, since birth And with all his Wizard wisdom By my looks, he won't be blinded Do you think the Wizard is dumb? Or like Munchkins so small-minded? No, he'll say to me I see who you truly are A girl on whom I can rely And that's how we'll begin The Wizard and I Once I'm with the Wizard My whole life will change 'Cause once you're with the Wizard No one thinks you're strange No father is not proud of you No sister acts ashamed And all of Oz has to love you When by the Wizard, you're acclaimed And this gift or this curse I have inside Maybe at last, I'll know why When we are hand in hand The Wizard and I And one day, he'll say to me "Elphaba A girl who is so superior Shouldn't a girl, who's so good inside Have a matching exterior? And since folks here to an absurd degree Seem fixated on your verdigris Would it be all right by you If I de-greenify you?" Of course that's not important to me All right, why not", I'll reply Oh, what a pair we'll be The Wizard and I Yes, what a pair we'll be The Wizard and Unlimited My future is unlimited And I've just had a vision almost like a prophecy I know, it sounds truly crazy And true, the vision's hazy But I swear, someday there'll be A celebration throughout OZ That's all to do with me! And I'll stand there with the Wizard Feeling things I've never felt And though I'd never show it I'd be so happy, I could melt And so it will be for the rest of my life And I'll want nothing else 'til I die Held in such high esteem When people see me, they will scream For half of Oz's favorite team The Wizard and I
I'm jaded by Idina Menzel having originated the role of Elphaba, and thus the song as well, but Ms Vosk did an INCREDIBLE job here. I love the emotion, playfulness, pining, and pain all together she brings to the song. She definitely made it fun, at the same time. She gave Ms Menzel a run for her.........talent.
Nate Woehr it’s different. Ariana sang it in her pop style which was cool, but not suited for broadway. Jessica Vosk masters the phrasing and elocution, which is key in live musicals, and something Ariana does not excel at. In other words, for Vosk phrasing > belting/riffs. For Ariana, belting/riffs >> phrasing.
