Good call. I was talking about the price for brand new at the LHS. you can definitely find them on Ebay or 2nd hand for cheaper. Also those ESCs can run many motors aprox that size, so it wouldn't even have to be velineon motors if you like another brand.
Yes there are hundreds of different ESC/motor combos that could be used. I have heard good things about the hobbywing SC8 combo so it sounds like you made a good choice too. :)

yes it probably would be now. it wasn't available when I made this video. the single motor/ESC Mamba would be much less complicated to set up as there are a lot of wires in this twin install that can short out or get broken. But my SUMMIT currently still runs this exact setup that I did for this video.
If you want a top speed run type machine, go get the Mamba monster power system. It's easier to install and faster. It's just not waterproof. which is what this was about. :)
lol. Yes I know. I have had people asking me to do this how-to video for over 2 years and I have resisted up till now for exactly that reason... it's a bit complicated and many will probably screw it up and smoke something and then say I told them wrong. So that's why the big disclaimer at the beginning... I can't stop them from blaming me for their mistakes, but I did warn them. lmao.
You get a lot of comments so I appologise if anyone has already asked, but do you know how the Summit would run with a single VXL set up as I have tried this with some success on a 1/6 scale E-Maxx and am considering an E-Revo or Summit for my next project?

Hey man I'm getting my first summit Friday, Do I need to get anything special to make it brushless or will the diffs and and shafts and transmission hold up?
The EMAXX twin VXL would be the same except for 1 thing... Both motors on the EMAXX mount on the same side of the motor mount, so you don't have to reverse the wires on one motor to make it run backwards. They both run the same direction. Other than that, everything I said here will apply just fine to an EMAXX twin VXL upgrade too. :))
LOve the video. I would just like to ad that one can also program those esc seperate one forward one reverse. But I guess if switching the wires is faster and easier it must not matter. Cool project, great disclaimer. traxxas should pay you

hey lag, I completed this project a while back using your video as a guide. turned out great. my question now is is this: I'm running a vxl6s in my stampede on 4 s but instead of using two 2s batteries , if like to implement my 4s 50c single hard pack. when I attempt to plug into either lead off esc , nothing happens. I had the Idea of using a harness with two female and 1 male in a series type harness but I'm hesitant to plug it in for fear of costly epic fail. what says you? I won't hold it against u. I need those other batteries freed up thatscwhybi purchased that 4s to begin with. thanks in advance
It would be a LOT of modification.. for starters, there is no place for the second motor, and they don't sell a 2 motor motor mount for the slash so you would have to make that yourself. also there is no place for a second battery, so you would either have to run on a single batt or tape them together. But sure, almost anything is possible in RC. Go show us how! :))
yeah back when i made my conversion i was looking at another motor option, at the time turnigy was making beast 2600kv 540 motors for like $20 each. The only drawback was that since it was such a beast & low-cost motor it was always out of stock, like the Tacons on hobbypartz.

That is completely incorrect. The 3 wires going to the brushless motor are completely interchangable. any 2 of them reversed will just reverse the motor. Please do not give out technical information on my videos unless you actually know the correct answers.
Hahaha thats wild ive been using the button to turn off my esc on my slash for years now and thought unplugging the batteries wsa bad for it 😂 guess i better stop now before i push my luck
Wtf? Pressing the button can destroy the ESC? I read the tag, but didn't know the consequences. Just got a Slash 4x4 platinum yesterday. Thanks for the heads up. I think I might drop in a Hobbywing ESC soon, I've been spoiled with all of its programmable settings on my other RC's. I also noticed some lag in the vxl system. When I pull the throttle the car doesn't respond until maybe half a second later. My end points and throttle trim are set up, it's not in training mode. I don't know, it's like turbo lag lol.
Either poor signal or dead batteries. Change the batteries. Mine had like 3 seconds of delay. The batteries in the controller were leaking. Good luck! TheAwesonymous
Water will still short out your vxl esc and your lipo , the bullet plugs and your deans are exposed. The balance port on your lipo same thing . Yes water slash is ok but these cars and trucks ar not submarines. But dont take my word it try it . dunk a lipo in water see what happens.
This would not work well as a single VXL 3500 setup. The 3500 is not strong enough to pull around this big heavy SUMMIT frame. You would have to gear it so low that it wouldn't be any fun in order to keep it from overheating.

you might want to check the date on the video... 2012... 6 yrs ago. mamba did not have a waterproof esc at that time otherwise I would have used it with a single larger motor.
Brandon Million not true! I had an esc catch on fire while running my stampede vxl and when I mailed it to the company they replaced it. Took a few weeks but they did replace.
Have you ever seen a mamba monster system? Guys add them to their SUMMIT all the time. That's even more power than this system. Personally I don't enjoy twisting my axles off and breaking my T-locks that much. lol.
What I've found with my E-Maxx when turning on/off the ESC: flashing green light = BAD. if this happens, unplug the batteries immediately unless you want smoking batteries lol.
