My grandparents came from Jiangmen, Xinhui district and Sunning (Taishan) to British Malaya before World War 2.

I want to spend a year all throughout China. I don't care about the virus. I spent 2 weeks there in 2018, 1 week in Shanghai/visiting Zhujiajiao water town 1700 years old! Then 1 week in Beijing and fell in love. But it's the quiet lush sub-tropical villages that I love the most. Wading in the water down a quiet river either with music from my phone or reading, even napping, while there may be a light rain that falls. That to me is heavenly. Such a vast and beautiful country. Most people outside China don't even realize there are about 50+ ethnicities of Chinese. We get tastes of China in Chinatowns all over the world, but when you experience the true country yourself, you realize how much deeper Chinese culture truly is. And it's all magnificent and beautiful. Even Summer Palace in the middle of Beijing gives you a real taste of the countryside. Lovely :)

There is no 56 ethnic tribes stupid. It is people of like only 4 or 5 races, inter-marrying, and now people are fighting for resources etc. Rather than working together....

"Is this UNESCO destination your ancestral homeland?" Yes! My dad's lineage comes from Jiangmen (江门), while my mum's from Meixian (梅县).

Very dangerous place for single businessmen. Gangs are common, poison is well used. Stay alert if doing business with these people.

My wife was born in Taishan and moved to Jiangmen at a young age. We went to Taishan one time to visit some classmates. When things open up we will visit Jiangmen again. The streets in the beginning along what looks like the Jiangmen River she is walking is an area that I have walked many times. The old rural buildings look like the buildings I visited in Kaiping. Good video. My videos are just what I see while in China and more.

Thanks for this look at the diaolou. I wonder who were the people who paid or commissioned for their construction, and why did they and their families not stay in China. Also: why are the buildings so dirty? Isn't the Chinese government going to do more than just let them waste away?
@anyone1200
@anyone1200 3 года назад
Yes this is indeed surprising. The Chinese government should encourage the cleaning and refurbsinment of the buildings to a presentable level, like they do in Japan with the traditional old buildings.

Because most of the owners of these houses have immigrated to other countries, the land still belongs to them and the local government cannot change it without permission. However, through exchange and communication, more and more old buildings are now restored and reused.
