I uploaded two videos recently of the best night of Snook fishing I've ever had while using jigs. This is the final episode where I catch Snook number seven and eight. I also took some time to put together some how to fish with jigs information for people who may be new to the channel.
Here are some highlights of what you will find in this video:
1. How to tie on a jig
2. What reel and rod I am using on this epic night of fishing
3. What pound test leader and main fishing line I'm using
4. My favorite color jig to fish for Snook with
5. Where the best places are to fish for this species
6. What knot is used to tie on a snook jig
This video was created before the red tide hit south west Florida in 2018. Hopefully the Snook fishing in this area will still be good after the fish kills have stopped. The FWC was so concerned about the fish kills that they made temporary regulations for Snook and Redfish to be catch and release only.
I fished this same location a few days ago on the same tide and didn't catch any Snook, actually never even had a hit. I did see one person catch one on live bait though from a boat. It was a really big one, looked like about a fifteen pound catch. I'd really like to try this spot out some evening from a boat.
Thanks for watching this video. I'll be uploading more Snook fishing action on this channel so if you are not a subscriber, please click that button and the notifications bell. You'll find that I upload videos about every other day on average.

Ha ha...That's a nice thing to hear. Especially after I just read a comment from someone saying I was a novice and shouldn't share with people my ideas for catching fish...Gotta love RU-vid. Thanks.

This is some great information man. I’ve been wanting to get into jig fishing. I need to get a nice setup for them. I don’t have a rod hat good for casting out heavy jigs. I’ve seen so many people fishing them and catching good fish so I’m gonna give it a shot.

That's why I love those spoolteks, hidden steel leader prevents em from rubbinn through. Lost a few to pilings though, I usually use 50, but have thought about switching to bigger after losing some freight trains that I couldn't stop.

Yeah, I've still on the fence about buying another Spooltek. If I do I'll only fish it where there's little structure...I've been thinking about buying some giant soft paddle tails too. Thanks for watching and commenting Danny. We still need to get on some of those bass sometime when you are up for it.

Everyone said go green with the blue tail when I started throwing jigs. I formed my own opinion when I started catching snook on the multicolored one.

Ha ha...yeah, I'm guessing there must have been hundreds of snook hanging out there that night, a very rare evening of fishing for sure.

Hey JC, that was a really good video for snook fishing....I haven't caught a good snook in a long time but I do have a couple of Red Tail Hawk jigs that I used to do really good on the jacks and bluefish with. It's been a while fishing with them but I've seen them be pretty effective on the snook here on the East coast. I saw where you caught the monster redfish when you were fishing with Mike D and I wanted to know if that was the same outfit you used when you landed the goliath grouper....I'm trying to rebuild my arsenal specifically for the snook and the bull reds, but I know that the groupers occasionally get hung up as well and I'm just wanting to be better prepared for battle just in case. Thanks for the info buddy!👍👍👍

Thanks for adding a quality comment. Yes, that was the same combo I landed the Goliath Grouper on.

I go 50lb braid with my bottom rigs with FG knot to about 10-12’ of Fluorocarbon leader especially fishing around structure. If I do break off usually I have enough leader left that I can just re-tie a swivel and don’t have to re-tie an new FG leader. The Fish isn’t gonna care how thick the braid is, might as well be precautious right

Right on...I stopped spending the money on Fluoro a long time ago. I'm catching a lot of big fish using mono all the time. Like you said, that longer leader has various advantages. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Rad Reeling Fishing I’ve had Fluoro look like it got in a fight with a cheese grader around pylons without breaking so that and the UV resistance makes me lean that way. I hardly ever have to change out leader so the price is negligible. Salt Strong has made a very compelling abrasion test mono vs Fluor that has me rethinking everything I thought about Fluor and abrasion. When I run out of Fluor I’ll give mono a shot.

Mono at night. Fluoro in the daytime :)

Nice video! Definitely go to 50lb braid with structure. 80lb leader is perfect! Tight lines my man

I generally like it when the current is moving. Certain areas are best on incoming tides and others are best on outgoing tides. Thanks for commenting.

Can't help with that Robin. There are several different brands of these type jigs on the market usually called Flarehawk. I purchase mine from the First Light Tackle...specifically called "Snook Jigs".
