Hi John, I mainly fish inshore and with live bait (worms, spots, cut bait, shrimp, etc.) and just cast and wait for bite from the fish. I really never fish with lures much, but after watching your videos, it makes me want to drop all the live bait fishing and just stick mainly with lures and fishing your methods with bucktails, teaser, etc. Your fishing methods is amazing. I live in Maryland. Would you say your method of fishing using bucktails and teaser will work really well in my area lake and tidal water (point lookout, chesapeake bay, potomac river, patuxent river, lakes and ponds, etc.) Let's go fishing... nick
Nice one John. Great to see a full trip with "everything" in it, rather than the edited highlights (which usually works out great too). I look forward to watching part 2 just as soon as I have made another coffee.
Hey John, I really enjoy your videos! Your technique has brought me and my kids some success down here in Virginia near the York river. In this video you mention you weren't looking for structure but just for birds. Were you fishing a ledge at all? In general, what depth are you looking for on these drifts? Thanks a ton...
Birds came first this trip, and they were spread on a large enough area that I found a little structure in that area, and found the better fish on the deeper parts.
I notice you pull up quite a few double header fluke. I've only rarely seen these, maybe once or twice, yet you seem to breeze by them all the time. My question is, do they literally just bite together? Or can you treat them like porgy as in setting the hook in the first fish and holding the rig down in the water?
Hey John Loyal subscriber here. Watched just about all your video's. I had a question about mounting of your humminbird GPS to the kayak. What mount do you use, and did you drill a hole in your kayak or is it just attached via adhesive? I was also wondering about your battery, what type of battery do you use (a large block sized battery, or multiple D's or AA's cinched up)? How long does your battery last?
It's a 4-pound SLA battery. Easily 6 hours of life. This kayak has a scupper hole designed for a specific humminbird transducer. You never want or need to put a hole in the yak. Any transducer can be mounted inside the hull and shoot through the hull. You just can't have air between the transducer and the hull. Silicone worked for me on another yak with a styrofoam pocket glued to the inside bottom of the yak to hold the transducer.
John, Love your vids. How do you attach and manage your go pro on the hat? I'm planning to upgrade to a gopro or Ion for this spring to help me add some better footage to my channel.
May 20-September, but then it's very good in the ocean until the Sept. 20 close. Hmmm, I guess it's the entire time the season is open, but I move from the North Shore to South Shore in early July.
yeah ive been getting them in the flats near an inlet here on the south shore pretty good success, got about 10 good keepers but i kept 2 alot of fun. best time of the year for me so far.
Hey John, Know you like to fish your own spots and there aren't usually many boats around you in your videos. Do you always avoid popular fishing spots for rips that you find yourself? Thanks for always posting!
Hey John, have you ever been boarded by a DEC boat given all the fishing you do? I always measure properly but who is really enforcing the regulations?
Ive been stopped 3 times in 5 years the Boat Cops are def. Out and about. ALWAYS measure your catch Plus fish tend to lose up to a 1/2 in. In the cooler
