Jim Allister Shows His True Colours - It Was Never About The NI Protocol!

The TUV and elements in the DUP had said the boycott of the Northern Ireland Executive was as about the problems of the NI Protocol and how it was dismantling the Union. However when Jim Allister the sole TUV MLA stood up in the Assembly on Saturday he attacked both Sinn Féin and the DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson for putting an "puppet of the IRA" into the top job.

Michelle has been progressive and was happy to get involved with more British traditions than any previous leader from the Nationalist community. As someone raised in the Unionist community all I can say is fair play to her and although she hasn't been perfect she has certainly been a lot more positive than most others I see in politics here and that's something we all need. I'd rather have a positive nationalist lead us than a bitter Unionist. (I know it's a joint position and both "lead")

Even in England there were day to day consequences, cranks and teens constantly phoning in fake bomb threats were a common annoyance. I haven't been "evacuated" from a shop or railway station since peace broke out in Northern Ireland. If it means peace is permanent then for the sake of 1st the people on the island of Ireland and then everyone else then I will happily support Irish reunification, preserving the Union is secondary to preserving life and freedom.

The likes of jimboy here doesn't care about anyone else it's all about him and he wants the Good old days back where he could bully the Irish people and if a English Scottish or Wales person were to say no jimboy would have them kick around the street to teach those people watching a lesson on how bigots ruled in the six counties of Ireland without mercy. I personally would prefer a better relationship between Ireland and Britain and the British public but these bigots don't want Irish people friends with their British brothers and sisters they want war and my brothers and sisters in Britain will pay for it with their taxes

Jim Allister does not care a bit about the people of NI, Nationalist or Unionist. It’s all about Self preservation and the maintenance of a platform for his super ego. Sammy Wilson admitted it as well. But he didn’t have the backbone to attack Donaldson . He blamed Sunak for conning the DUP again. Much as you may hope the DUP would be swept away entirely, in reality it's unlikely. From their point of view, they would maintain the status quo (the most likely outcome), but from the outside the worst for them would be to lose a seat or two to the TUV or the Alliance.

The hypocrisy of Allister proudly celebrating an old battle every year to commemorate the killing of Irish Catholics. The divided society was a legacy of the long shadow of the Divide & Rule policy of the English hierarchy. There was a time in Ireland when it was "no more sin to kill an Irishman than a dog or any other brute". That's the spirit of Brexit in a nutshell... seeing the UK vote out of hate towards Europeans, screw itself over and then complain about it. It's not like we did anything to them... we're just watching bemused. It's not funny, as much as it's weird, confusing and interesting to watch. As for this guy... I understand what he's saying, but the unpleasant reality is that peace requires injustice. Some perpetrators must get away with it in order to prevent continued or future suffering. Because if that doesn't happen, then both sides have legitimate complaints against the other and you'll just end up with a neverending string of retaliation... an Israel/Palestine situation. And that won't bring any justice in the long run, it will simply make the list of injustices longer and longer.

The protocol may feel uncomfortable for unionists, due to the alignment with the EU and checks. But the other side is Northern Ireland, under the protocol had great access to both markets, as they voted in 2016. Now I wonder if the UK will try to smuggle into the EU via Northern Ireland and cause economic harm that then leads to checks between both Irelands and political tensions. The Unionists should have been upfront that they don't respecet real democracy at the ballot box. Now from my experience of living in Northern Ireland during the troubles, it felt remote to what many called the mainland. That the polticial needs differ much more than say mine do now in Wales from England (and they are big differences already). So to not have their assembly for so long, is disgusting. Best thing for Jim is to give him no media coverage. I am Irish and proud of it and have seen the changes since the end of English rule but we have moved on. Ask any Irish person around the world where are they from, the proud reply is Ireland. We don't say, we are from the southern or northern part. Its great today to see our youth getting on with their lives. I am around the same age as Jim and hes getting old and must realize he's losing power and no longer rule with the gun and bomb. He should get his few mates and go to a 6 nations game and enjoy the few years he has left.

As a lot are saying here, i love his selective condemnation of people who died during the troubles. Since he mentioned Yvonne Dunlop, I’m surprised he didn’t mention my great uncle Sean McCrystal who was burned to death by the UVF in retaliation for Yvonne’s murder in Ballymena. Of course he wouldn’t. Only those murdered by the IRA. He doesn’t care about Yvonne Dunlop and had the brass neck to use her death as point scoring. But only because it was the IRA who were behind her death. Thankfully most people are over this shit now. Everyone in the chamber spoke on the real issues facing NI at the moment & Jim as usual just rants pure hated & bitterness & contributes nothing else. Never has.

To go back in time is a valuable asset. I’m old enough to remember when Le Masse the Taoiseach of Southern Ireland went north to meet Terence O’ Neill the unionist leader of Northern Ireland. They had very constructive meetings to bring together the economies of both parts of the island of Ireland. Ian Paisley stepped on the stage and shouted Never,Never,Never. If those words had Never.Never, Never been uttered by Paisley the civil war that took place in NI would Never have happened. Jim Allister is shouting the same NEVER.

I would hardly call this Jim MCAllister revealing his true colours. There's plenty of clips of him saying he'd never support a SF First Minister before today. This is just him trying to move the more extreme disgruntled voters from the DUP over to his rival even more extreme TUV party.
