The Best Female Singer and Impersonator EVER! He is in class by himself! No one can touch him ever! I was born in the late fall of 1978. I first saw him on Televison when I was four, he sang Get Happy as Judy Garland!
HOLY SHIT. He's absolutely fantastic! His Judy was amazing, and his Barbra was pretty damn good. He's past being a good drag queen, he's a real performer.
Jim Bailey was phenomenal; a unique, amazing and talented performer! By comparison the drag acts currently on Ru Paul's Drag Race are a dull minstrel show.
I think there is a difference between drag and female Impersonation. Jim was a female Impersonator. Drag to me is just pantomime and lip synch, essentially “clowning” but campishly. But Jim is an artist in his own right : his voice is just as good as Barbra’s and yet he mixes that artistry with impersonation which is also an ancient theatrical and melodramatic art form in itself.
What is amazing, quite apart from the visuals and acting skills, is the quality of the vocal range....for a man to sing in a woman's range, and with such power, is unbelievable...and very hard!!!
come on! the guy is spot on!!! He IS a man after all and he is an impressionist... he isn't the real thing but makes you think he is in most performances...
Stephen....thank you so much for putting these online. It is really great to spend the evening with Jim again! I miss you both and think of you often. (Barbi- Personal Dresser for Jim Bailey, Key West Florida 1992(ish).
I think jon609 has it just about right! His Judy is pretty much on point and Babs was pretty good but not perfect. He is still an awesome illusionist and showman and he's incredibly entertaining!
Didn't really need the costumes.....so talented and grand enough without them. Imagine how much time and money you would have saved Jim ! We had the same manager who's since passed away and was from Long Island.
@@lonnahunter3388 omg I just made that comment too without seeing yours!!!! Yes absolutely there is a resemblance. Both had pretty and feminine facial features and a similar speaking style. It’s not just “gay” it’s kind of a queer accent.
jim could do anything even in a tux, to bad the audience would only accept barbara, judy,tallulah etc and he was talented in his own right but rarely able to perform as himself as the personality cults live on just a observation not a condemnation
@@rayyanez3527 still it would’ve come across as shocking although the audience seems to have appreciated it. No boo’ing. Lots of applause. Both Carol and Lucy were wonderful champions of gay talent and culture. It seems that there was an appreciation for Queer culture in comedy circles in those days and the likes of Lucille Ball on her shows and Carol’s shows could somehow get away with featuring and championing queer performers. That’s why you often see queer or camp performers like Liberace or Phyllis Diller or Peter Allen on all those Comedy variety evening shows that were so popular: Less so on the Hetero old white male late night chat shows which steered clear of queer performers for Fear of offending the dumb American mom and pop Bible Belt of the time.
I Just ! Meant !! That HE !.. ACTUALLY!! HAD!!! A GOD GIVEN TALENT!!!!! BEYOND!!! THE JUST !!!! WEARING !!! DRAG ,!??!! NO NEED!! For THE WOKE !!. BULLSHIT 🤮🤮 RETHORIC !!!!;
Sweetness, You due Phyllis Diller better than Phyllis Diller does phyllis Diller ! I know that because she used to be my next-door neighbor.. A real sweetheart!!!!!
