big van vader-most underrated heel of all time. watch and learn, braun.
@jonathanturbide2232
@jonathanturbide2232 4 года назад
Underrated? Na, he's seen as a God in Japan and pretty much everyone agrees he's among the best big men ever. He's being praised by just about everybody. "Most underrated" should go to someone who is truly underappreciated in wrestling, a guy that spent decades in the shadow of others or who never tasted fame and fortune, not a legend like Vader.
@jonathanturbide2232
@jonathanturbide2232 4 года назад
@Sammy The Shark Yeah, but he was talking about his career as a whole. Anyone with a knowledge of his run in Japan and WCW know he isn't underrated by any means, he's revered by most and he was able to reach legendary status all over the world. I just think it's silly to see him as the most underrated heel ever as the OP said, when the guy is a true legend in two countries. Way too many fans use that term out of love for their favorites, I get it, but in this case it's not appropriate and just plain false.

One of the best wrestlers all time. Vader's NJPW debut beating Inoki in minutes, the fans stayed in their seats stunned until they RIOTED
@L2DaK2Dap
@L2DaK2Dap 4 года назад
Good story that. Vader was meant to face someone else, Choshu I think, but that didn't happen. Inoki did a quick decision to have him lose to Vader and have his yers long winning streak ended by Vader in his debut. New Japan was banned from the venue for a few years after that because of the riot.

Couldn't put the belt on Vader because his body was breaking down.. Put it on Shawn instead, who can win it and then forfeit it with a back injury, but, can still come out and backflip off the top rope and dance around the ring, then win it again and forfeit again because he lost his smile then win it again and then forfeit it some more.

@Blast Thunder doesn't know how to work lol you're basing his entire career on his time in the WWF when diva Shawn had the stroke n had it out for him , did you see any of Leons work in Japan n WCW !?? @mikeydoc11
@mikeydoc11 4 года назад
Blast Thunder That might be true, but, that's not the point I'm making here. The excuse given was Vader wasn't given the title because his body was breaking down, yet Shawn Vacated the world title due to a knee injury and was given it back, had alleged severe back problems and was given it again before he lost to Austin, between the tag titles, intercontinental, European and world title, Shawn had 10 title reigns and 7 were forfeited. He had an attitude problem, drug problem, refused to work with many people, wouldn't drop titles and had injuries but he still became champion again after all this. All I'm saying is it's hypocritical for the WWE to refuse to put the belt on man who's body is breaking down when they've had multiple champions with severe injuries under their belt before. Austin carried the company with a bad neck, bad hip, bad knees and near deaf in one ear. It's a bullshit excuse to give about Vader, say he was too stiff and the top guy didn't want to work with him, just be honest at this point.
@scurbag

@Blast Thunder he defs took liberties no doubt about it then just said "that's my style" he's not the only person in history to Injure someone half the ppl that ever stepped foot in a ring Injured someone some time or another . The whole point of Vader's character was to no-sell and stiff the babyface world champion so the crowd got pissed. Antonio Inoki taught him to do it in New Japan and they caused a riot and drew huge money. WCW saw that and brought him in to do the same with Sting. So the WWF bringing him in then telling him not to was just stupid.

I think part of the reason why Vader didn't "get over" in the WWE is because of his "stiff" working style. I've read that nobody wanted to work with him because they didn't want to be all beat up and sore every night, that's why at Survivor Series it ended up being Sid instead of Vader and as I understand it he (Michaels) was supposed to have that series of matches with Vader. I'm sure others felt the same way, so maybe a big part of him flopping in the WWE is on Vader himself.

I love all the casuals in the comment section here. You just know that none of you have paid attention to pro wrestling for any length of time. If you had paid attention as you claim you have because you're a bunch of liars, then you'd know that one Bret Hart ALSO agrees with Shawn that Vader was a very stiff worker and no fun to work with. Nobody ever talks about that, because nobody knows about it. Even though it's been known for decades.

Vince didn't get Vader... or the Road Warriors... or the Steiners. So Vince doesn't get scary looking ass-kickers which makes absolutely no sense in a business about putting on worked fights for an audience. To me this is the simplest of "characters" to work with: Vader is a big scary looking guy that looks like he would kill you in a fight. Someone like Goldust, who's an eccentric weirdo with facepaint, seems like it be harder - what about this character suggests he would win wrestling matches? What about idiotic gimmicks like TL Hopper the wrestling plumber? What about being a plumber suggests that you would succeed in wrestling? Before I watched wrestling I saw an ad in a magazine for the WCW Superbrawl videogame and it had Vader on the cover and I thought "who is that huge guy with the cool mask?" He instantly stood out which is probably 90% of getting a guy over. All he has to do then is deliver the goods by not being terrible and Vader could deliver the goods.

I remember as a kid thinking that a manager with a tennis racket was the dumbest shit ever, like why the fuck does he have that? also thinking anybody with cornette must have special needs, cornette probably the only manager that made his wrestler look handicap. Yea hes got a good mind for playing pretend but so do alot of Mark's. "Put that in your pipe and smoke it".

Seth Freakin Rollins Fanclub They are more then a decade apart from retirement to first appearance. I don't know much about Cena since I stopped watching in 2000. But I doubt his character could best Vader. You must be too young to remember.

I read that the reason behind Vader being kayfabe suspended after making his debut at the Royal Rumble was because Vince wanted a big star to make their first appearance in the RR match but it would have been far more logical to just get Vader the shoulder surgery ASAP and not rush him back (that set of events would have still probably resulted in Sid having the same undeserved World Title run as he had in real life being as Vader would have probably only made his debut in September or October which doesn't seem to be enough time to set up a Survivor Series match without rushing things).

The reason he was "suspended" was apparently because he was taken off tv to lose the extra weight.

@@tempestfennac9687 Well I've read that here and there on the internet and newsletters, apparently Vince was pissed at the way Vader let himself go (compared to his WCW run) and took him off tv to get him in better shape. The suspension couldn't have been done for a surgery of any kind because Vader went back to action in time for Wrestlemania 12, 2 months later. He came back with more energy and a slightly better build, if I recall.

@@jonathanturbide2232 That's interesting. Come to think of it, I think I read about the shoulder surgery in an old issue of Power Slam magazine too (I can't remember which issue it was though).
