People still don't see that MJF was the secret ingredient that propped him up. Wardlow doesn't have the character depth to carry a feud, he stil needs a good dancing partner like he had with MJF. Once you put the rocket ship on someone, you can't just stop. Wardlow should be positioned at the top of the card, because that's where all of the decent dancing partners are, he needs to be carried.

Imagine Roman having a somewhat competitive match with R-Truth, that's basically what Tony did. As time goes on, I start to believe that MJF leaving AEW is a more plausible scenario especially if his match against Wardlow was a squash but Pockets is competitive.

Overall I tend to agree with Brian’s opinions and Jim’s analysis, but Brian’s been on-freakin-point even more lately. The show was better without OC, and if OC’s gonna be this much a part of it you’d think they would find a way to build show-wide narratives around him. They aren’t that self-destructive to do that (ugh, yet, hopefully never) but OC’s booking exposes how bad AEW’s booking and presentation can be.

I’m guessing that Wardlow has been trying to work on selling. The big spots in OC’s matches are easy bumps and telegraphed from a mile away. Makes for an easy course in “selling 101”. Remember that in AEW they have training sessions on live tv constantly. This was one of those.

100%, the beginning worked, it would have been ok if you had given Orange one spot into a 1 count and then a squash. But why the face vs face tho?

Rule of thumb should be: Keep Orange Cassidy FAR, FAR, FAR AWAY, From the monsters in your company. I would have suggested having two divisions, That could have played specifically to Orange Cassidy's strengths. 1) A Junior Heavyweight Division and 2) A Comedy & Gimmick Concept Division, Like DDT's Ironman, WWE's Hardcore, PWG Style Division & NJPW KOPW. They already have the talent to do both. The latter could be a concept, That is a specialty concept to add something unique to Elevation & Dark. Which are shows I would be using better (Which they have done recently, The last episode was a very good formatting concept)

The match did a disservice not just because it's OC but it's a big good looking dude with muscles vs literally an indie guy. AEW main demo is the exact type of fans who'd boo larger than life characters so small workrate guys can win. So you risk fans booing Wardlow against guys like that.

Aew is charity wrestling company, everybody can have competitive match and everybody can became world champion.

LoL this is exactly what I am saying. You can't judge the implications of bad AEW booking through the lens of traditional pro wrestling booking. AEW fans love OC, they made him look strong and the right guy won. That's a win win for everyone,was it right for OC to look that credible? He sells merch and is over asf. How is it any different than Matt riddle v reigns on the other show.

@@kreed82 Are you serious? Matt Riddle and Roman Reigns was a match between two credible looking guys. They didn't stop the match so someone could put their hands in their pockets. No one brought a chainsaw to the ring. Both guys looked like wrestlers. Your excuse for how this is okay is weak. It's basically the "nothing has consequences" defense. You can book anything you want and nothing bad will come of anything. That's just not true. If you want Wardlow to look like a monster, you don't have put him a competitive match against a much smaller guy who doesn't try. This is why AEW has never (and will never) attract a larger audience. The entire product is "video game wrestling." You can be short and skinny fat like Adam Cole and be competitive against Powerhouse Hobbs. Marko Stunt can beat up Jake Hager who was a world champion and MMA fighter. Everyone is just characters in a video game and physiques are optional skins for your character. It's not important that you go to a gym and look like a professional. In the other company, they have standards for how everyone looks because they know that the BIGGER, mainstream audience needs to believe in the people they're watching. They don't want to buy tickets to see people that look like fans. AEW's bad booking has had consequences. It's why they aren't profitable and can't attract new fans. It's a weekly rich kid's birthday party and the fans crow about it like it's the second coming of Christ lol

Fact is Riddle is a novelty act that should not be top of the card or made to look credible against a world champ but was. Why = sells merch and is over. OC is one of the few household acts thats over and sells merch. Wardlow might be a monster but he aint worldchamp. It is what it is.. Again within the universe of aew this doesnt hurt Wardlow it protects OC who is the fan favorite while the execs favorite gets the W. They arent appealing to traditional wrestling fans they are reasoning with neckbeards..

Reigns had a similar match, Elimination Chamber 2023, Roman Reigns vs. Sami Zayn. The fact that Homeless Sami put up a bigger fight than Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Edge, Drew McIntyre, and etc. is horrible booking but the fans eat it right up.

Orange Cassidy is a cruiser weight wrestler at best. Having him wrestle against anyone of Wardlo's stature is ridiculous.

That was the one bad part of the match, but I found it a really entertaining match.

That made me laugh (it was out of a sense of disbelief considering the issues with using it beyond OC just smacking Wardlow with it admittedly; I figure even the most oblivious pro wrestling ref would notice the noise it would make if struck up anyway :P).

The match was amazing. Too bad the wrong guy won (big guy, bad physique, 0 talent). The chainsaw spot was amazing. I was laughing out loud.

Got dealt a phony lawsuit by Mark Sterling, the promo material they've fed him is lacking at best and they put him in the ring with two MMA guys, one of whom can barely move due to a near fatal crash. And his first defense is against Orange Cassidy, in a match where Cassidy pulls up his straps.
